I gotta admit, as an ex-retail player, Hardcore Classic re-ignited my love for the game. I didn't think I'd enjoy running around everywhere, but I did. There were many parts of the world I didn't know existed, and running into other players makes it feel much more alive. On retail everyone just sits on their dragons in the capital city until their queue pops making it feel more like a single player game. And despite not having a queue system, finding people for dungeons in classic was easier than on retail. The best thing is you're not this overpowered champion. You're just a dude with a stick, and every choice you make matters. So yeah, I honestly don't miss flying one bit.
@@chessiecat7860 Last time i played retail was 10.2 and it wasn't that bad (i did some heroic raiding and etc). Personally I don't like the way the game looks now though, it's very vibrant and cartoonish(smoothlike). And the difference between Retail and Vanilla playstyle wise is like night and day. Retail is very simulatory with the way you repeat dungeons and raids to get better gear, and it sure is pretty satisfying pressing your cooldowns and dealing big aoe dmg. Point can be made that vanilla is also a bit simulatory with the end game and i agree. However a big difference, and the main part of vanilla imo is the leveling/adventure to 60. Retail feels less alive as well, due to the ~900% increases speed dragonriding mounts, which is why i said its a "singleplayer" game. They have to compensate for the speed by making the world way bigger, and unlocking the Z-axis was such a bad idea, makes the world wayyy too big. Dont get me started on the p2w xD, immersion just goes away with that stuff. And about the other comment that was talking bout some "Its what you make it to be, I like collecting things and getting achievements.", yeah i partially agree. I used to do a bit of twinking during 10.2, lvl 10s and 20s and that was pretty fun. But i think theres a difference between the main point of the game (raid, mythic, pvp), and things you make up yourself.
Spot on, flying was never a good addition to WoW. A small thing that changed the whole game (for the worst), like he said it no longer feels like a big world anymore, and it takes off the sense of adventure.
In classic all this shit is like a glue, if you trivialize the game like retail has it completely falls apart as an MMO and it's just an action game now where you afk and queue up your matchmaking system. The magic of vanilla was that it felt like a huge real world, even mundane shit like weapon skills and class trainers it all came together to create the experience. Even the instanced content, due to the faster paced nature and destroying the different classes to make them all the same erodes the whole RPG from the game, at a certain point what are you left with? I agree with everything that Kungen ever said on this topic, the people that don't comprehend your point of view, simply have never experienced a real MMO/vanilla and it's a fucking disgrace to the genre 20 years later.
I stumbled upon this, and I have to ask-how could anyone genuinely argue that flying in WoW is a bad thing? Let’s break it down. WoW Classic’s biggest flaw wasn’t its content; it was the sheer, soul-draining grind of getting anywhere. Spending upwards of an hour just to reach an instance, only to summon others who had the same arduous trek? That’s not "immersive" or "challenging"; it’s pure frustration and wasted time. If flying mounts had been in WoW Classic, it would have been a game-changer, plain and simple. It wouldn’t just have saved time; it would have encouraged more exploration, made it easier for players to engage with the world, and completely removed one of the most alienating barriers to group play. Imagine being able to jump into content faster, organize groups more efficiently, and actually enjoy the game without the constant looming dread of long, monotonous travel. Saying flying would’ve "ruined" the experience is completely out of touch. What ruins a game isn’t convenience-it’s unnecessary tedium that turns a hobby into a chore. Flying in WoW is one of the most liberating and universally appreciated mechanics Blizzard ever added. Its absence in Classic was a glaring oversight, and if it had been there, the game would have been significantly better for everyone. There’s simply no argument against it that holds water.
did you play pre-flying? there was an obvious dynamic change that made gameplay rushing from a-b minimizing interacitons as much as possible. same with the queueing for dungeon system
Kungen is so right about that. I refused to use a flight mount during bc and wotlk classic leveling. And it was a completely different game.
Its the same when you play bethesda games with limited or no fast travel
100% I vote for Kungen and Grumz to do a Blizzard takeover and make wow great again.
Completely right

Flying mounts should have just been limited to certain zones. I agree that it took the fun out of exploring the map and shrunk the game.
Retail wow has just become a cartoonish singleplayer p2w simulator.
Its what you make it to be, I like collecting things and getting achievements.
Non retail player detected

Im so glad we got classic wow so brainroters like Kungen stay away from retail xD
Im so glad there is retail, so dumb people can buy their dopamin on the shop and stay away from real games.
retail is dead man no one plays that crap game
@@Andrew-vt2wq still better than classic
Retail is the worst brainrot in the world, only addicts play a product that garbage.
Yes, very few have the time and patience for old school mmos these days, and most that do (kids) are not interested in WoW.
This random clip shit is weird. Ok cool a washed up has been doesnt like retail or flying, great.
you commenting here is weird

Brother, when was the last time you actually played retail? Sure has a lot of bad things about it but holy fuck.
