Very good video. Right to the point without all the talking. Exactly what I was looking for. I am starting with a young lemon tree, and am going to graft several different citrus varieties to it. Kind of a mixed fruit salad. Wish me and the tree luck, because it's my first try, and something I always wanted to try.

Thank you so much! I tried another youtube method and not a single graft took-- I bought scions from UCR (CCPP) in California so know it was good budwood. I had about $200 worth of budwood and grafting supplies, and grafted to four of my current citrus trees, so it was a painful and expensive loss. I'll purchase on a smaller scale this time and try again. I'll be sure to let you know if I succeed. I also loved hearing you interact with your child in the background, it was very sweet.

@Jackie G, how did it go? I just grafted a bunch of fig trees, used 1/2" parafilm, and rubber bands, and none of my grafts took .It appeared all of them oxidized and dried out. I know I lined up the cambium, but it appears they dried and shrunk and misaligned the cambium. I am in a desert climate (phoenix az) but it did rain a lot this spring (for us, anyways) I don't know if it was my parafilm being only 1/2" or if I just didn't wrap tightly enough? Or if my rubber bands lost their stretch? I know the scions were good, abecause I rooted half of them, and all the rooted cuttings took. I'm looking for answers
Graft in mid summer .timing is everything.take off tapes 6 weeks later.

Question. Can you graft to a different tree? For example, if I wanted to graft a cara cara orange stem to another type of citrus/orange tree because a cara cara tree is man made and doesn't grow naturally.

you can apply grafting method in same trees ( same varieties even different varieties ) but you can't apply to different trees. for example: you can graft mango tree with "A" varieties as rootstock to mango tree with "A" varieties as scion or mango with "B" varieties as scion. but you can't grafting mango tree with apple tree.

Hi, i heard, that for citrus trees it is easier to do bud grafting instead of wedge/V grafting because of the hardness of citrus wood. I heard too that it is better to graft lemon seed with lemon scion, orange seed with orange scion. When you graft a lemon with orange , the fruit will be more sour because of lemon rootstock.. what is your experience? Thx
does not change the taste, if it changes, maybe only 1% or less

grafting is a method to make: 1. good varieties ( if you have unknown/bad varieties and then you graft it use good scion, 2. make bear fruit early than if you grow from seed without graft, 3. all in one tree ( examples: 2 or 3 or more citrus varieties in 1 tree )
