I think I was about 17 when my mom got a free cd from a radio station give away at our state fair. It was lost dogs and mixed blessings. She gave it to me because she didn't have a cd player. I had no clue that cd would change my love and understanding of music forever. Thanks John.

I never knew who John Prine was until I heard of his passing. I consider myself very knowledgeable when it comes to music. I have been exploring John's music for the last 4 weeks and I can say that he, without a doubt, has become my most favorite song writer of all time. Such simple song structure with such a powerful message. I'm sad I never got to see you perform John. I hope you are having your vodka and ginger ale next to peaceful waters.

I first heard of John Prine in 1973 while in the Navy. Went to a bluegrass festival near Winchester, Va, in 1974, where even the Flying Burrito Brothers were there, among other big names of bluegrass/country/folk music. Over the next 5 years, I saw him many times at bluegrass festivals all over Va, Pa, and WVa. I saw him so often, when he passed, it felt like a relative had gone on. So so sad. Can't pick a favorite, because it would be a list of over 100 songs. So humble, my favorite songwriter for sure. He can put the words together like nobody else i've ever heard, and i'm a huge fan of Dylan and Kristofferson. Anyway, I sure do miss knowing he is on the planet somewhere, making folks smile. sorry for the length of this, but i truly loved his spirit, songs, and writing. farewell my friend.

The first John Prine song I heard was "Spanish Pipedream" and when I heard "I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve" that this was a songwriter I needed to pay attention to!. I saw him about 6 times after that in bigger venues in Ottawa and Toronto. He never disappointed. He mixed his songs with stories of his song writing and observances of the human condition. My husband and I saw Prine a few years ago at SMU in Dallas. He was his usual funny self. My husband loved his songs. Dear Abby, Whistle and Go Fishin, Please Don’t Bury Me and That’s the Way the World Goes Round were some of his favorites. Prine told a funny story about That’s the Way the World Goes Round. Seems there was a woman in his audience once who asked for the “Half an Enchilada” song. John said which song? She said you know “it’s a half an enchilada you think you’re gonna down”. The actual line is “it’s a half an inch of water you think you’re gonna drown”. He was hysterical, deep, and thoughtful. RIP John, you were one-of-a-kind.

What a history of Western music. There is Guy Clark and Jerry Jeff, but John Prine set the bar of music and lyrics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His interview with Mark Maron was replayed when Mr Prine passed. A fabulous record of his youth, rise to notoriety, and music.

Lake Marie is one of my all time favorite secular songs, it always lifts my spirits and reminds me of all the fun times with my kids. However, the fact that John Prine said Hello in There was his favorite song of his, pretty much tells you all you need to know about who he actually was as a person.

Thanks for this info clip on a great Nashvillian for some 40 yrs. "When I get to heaven", "Far from me", and the
comic duet with Iris Dement -" In spite of ourselves" have all got to be among his best. Paradise of course another!

Ive been listening to John Prine since the 60s and 70s. Use to frequent a beer and wine bar where a man would sing on the wknds. He played several Prine songs including Sam Stone. Shame we lost John and others to something that China could have prevented. Happily we can hear Prine's music at Outlaw County on Sirrus #60

John adopted Mrs, Fiona's son so he leaves behind 3 sons.
I just dont know how I will ever get over this one..I have been a fan since I was 10 years old, I am almost 50 now, and I haven't turned off John's music since April 7th. R.I.P John. You were a friend to me in my heart and soul, though I never had my chance to meet you, and shake your hand. It's because of you I learned to play the guitar at age 14, and every song I have ever written was in some way inspired by you. I hope I will still get the opportunity to shake your hand and tell you thank you for always being there for me in the good times and the bad. Till we meet in heaven, Rest in Peace John. I love you.

I’ll remember John from seeing him in 1989 in Columbia, SC. for the first of 4 times throughout my life, with my friend Clay Ragsdale. Just John and a guitar.I’ll remember seeing him with my wife and Dad 10 years later. I’ll also remember just my wife and I seeing him when he had Amos Lee open for him. Then for the 4th time I saw him, my 2 children and my wife were with me. Great to share those times with my friend, Dad, Wife, and Children…but especially John…

It is sad that Covid was not acknowledged for what it was.
More Americans died than anywhere else in the world for that denial.
John Prine was a wonderful person and would likely still be on the planet if wiser people had been in place.

Just a little thing I wrote, hanging outside on the deck alone with a paintbrush in my hand and a sadness in my heart. I call it Pink Moon Mourning
In the light of the pink moon
    He went away too soon
What I feared most had come true
And all the songs he penned
    I began to sing again
Every sad or silly verse that I knew
    Come on home, John
    Come on home
    The shadows cross the ceiling
    Are crawling alone
    Come on home, John
    Come on home
    Its heaviness that I'm feeling
    Since you've been gone
    I hope you're shaking God's hand
He lets you have your band
And write Him songs the way you are
    And on that fateful day
And the rapture's on it's way
Not a horn, but the sound of your sweet guitar
    Come on home, John
    Come on home
    The shadows on the ceiling
    Are crawling alone
    Come on home, John
    Come on home
    Its heaviness that I'm feeling
    Since you've been gone
    Come on home, John
    Come on home
    The swimming suits are drying
    in the cold spring wind
    Come on home, John
    Come on home
I long to hear your sad voice crying
    To me again

As ayoung Want To Be guitar Pickers singer-songwriter in the mid-70s John Prine was one of my first Heroes I cut my teeth on his first album learning all those songs and playing them all night long tell my fingers would bleed
