People who refuse to recognise that there are two dimensionss of obedience:
-welcoming God as Word (Son)
-welcoming God as Spirit
people who define obedience as only about the first above and not also the second - WILL BE PROUD. They will because LOGICALLY they have no-one to credit for their achievements except themselves. Only the person who welcomes and depends on the Spirit has any reason for crediting God for his work in them.
In the case of those who welcome God as Word and Spirit it is not impossible for them not to be proud - since in their case - if they really have benefited from God's help - it comes down to telling the truth instead of lying.
Consistent with this we must not accept shallow ideas about humility - such as for example that the humble person doesn't think less of themselves - they think of themselves less (if this was the way to be humble it would collapse the second someone else drew our attention back towards ourselves). Not thinking about ourselves isn't a way to be humble. Instead WHILE thinking about ourselves we need to be completely objective - recognising that we are one person among many on the planet.
