    The music starting at 0:25 is not only unnecessary and annoying for blending over the actual event, the Haka making it much more difficult to hear.
    If I was a Maori, I might even consider it quite disrespectful, for treating a Haka like some kind of weird dance requiring happy elevator music to be enjoyable for the audience.

      Resisting of these shenanigans.
      1835 He Whakaputanga' a document of Maori sovereignty confirmed by Queen Victoria
      1840 The British crown initiates a treaty in English known as the Treaty of Waitangi signed by very few Maori chiefs that were threatened with violence and land confiscation. In that version it states Maori ceded sovereignty. The Maori translation known as Te Tiriti o Waitangi and written up by the church was signed by over 500 Maori chiefs and in it Maori did not cede sovereignty and guarantees Maori full autonomy and other rights. At that time Maori did not understand the English language. Interestingly the NZ government is a member of the UN and under international law set out by the UN when a treaty is in two languages it is the Indigenous translation that takes precedence over the coloniser version. This brings us to David Seymour and his political party ACT in association with the Gibbs family of NZ and linked to the ATLAS network. David Seymour in his capacity as a minister for the crown introduces the treaty principles bill (conflict of interest much?) to try and unilaterally change the meaning of the Maori translation while ignoring expert advice, the church leaders and Maori who have spoken against his flawed bill. David has yet to name the expert linguists specialising in the Maori language and experts in NZ history he used in his divisive and flawed bill. He's a yappy guy but door mouse quiet on this issue lol.
      Maori once had the majority and still weren't allowed to rule and now Maori are outnumbered 5 to 1 they are weaponising democracy against Maori. Even after 184 years of the many Te Tiriti breaches such as Parihaka a peaceful resistance and destroyed by the crown, child abuse in state care and those children that are now adults make up 80 to 90% of the gang members Maori are still saying 'honour Te Tiriti".
      Non Maori that stand in solidarity with Maori are growing in number so huge blessings to them

    • @amerikiwi8343
      @amerikiwi8343 Місяць тому +19

      The Treaty of Waitangi (1840) allowed British colonisation of NZ in return for Māori citizenship and protection of their treasures (culture, language, land etc). But it was written in both Māori and English and said very different things. Since 1975 the principles of the treaty (the ideas that are meant to represent what the two versions intended to guarantee) have been in NZ law. The courts and a body called the Waitangi Tribunal have interpreted these concepts and decided what they think are the principles. These include participation in government, partnership, active protection of Māori and redress of grievances for violations of the treaty.
      This has led to much debate over things like having special Māori seats on local councils and resource management boards, and quotas for Māori students, affirmative action, in universities. The current bill would totally rewrite these principles to wipe out all those court rulings, abolishing any special place for Māori in NZ society. No more affirmative action, no special consultation for tribes over resource use, no more special seats for Māori on councils. It proposes to put this new set of principles based on pure equality (not equity) to a national referendum, letting the whole populace vote on the rights of a historically oppressed minority group.
      Naturally this is very controversial and seen as one party of the treaty (the Crown) trying to unilaterally change the meaning of it. The governing coalition have assured this bill will never pass. They will kill it at the second reading, meaning the whole thing is just a huge waste of time and resources. It was agreed to in order to get the votes of the far-right libertarian Act Party to form their government.

    This is a routine life in NZ parliament. Thats why you could see the speaker rolling the eyes here we go.They want privileged treatment. Exclusive rights over land, water and air and they already have some. Separate water, electricity, internet and hospital wards for them which they have got too under previous govt. Exclusive marine right to fish in certain areas where others can't In the treaty basically they got all the rights as British citizens but did not give back anything to the settlers already there. Now the govt is paying them in millions out of your taxpayer's money for their cultural revival. In return you have poor public services hospital and road infrastructure, ambulance takes hours to arrive, police never even come because they are afraid as these people can even punch a female officer on the face. They want privileged treatment where a guy tells an elderly Indian bus driver that he is his servant when asked to pay for the fare. Later he punches him unconscious as he leaves the bus. Another lost his life being stabbed and one lost his fingers as the guy weilded machete on him and his phone fell to the ground alongwith his fingers. yet they claim to have abusive violent past and trauma of colonisation. They have a lower tax braket but highest in receiving govt benefits yet have most percentage in the jail. After all this when you immigrate your kids will be doing this dance sticking tongue out in front of the females and gouging their eyes out. besides, they claim spitting on guest's feet and showing their private parts during haka is acceptable as challenge of haka. The parliament costs $40000 an hour to run but these people do not care. They are getting paid hefty to do all this charade to be paid maximum out of non Maori tax payers. I have moved out of NZ along with many others. Research before you make a move. You can even be shot in the supermarket and nobody cares.

      @@mariesouth5103 I'm sure it doesn't matter. The Maori believe it will take away indigenous rights. This treaty is the bedrock of the country's constitution, and yet the crown has already breached it several times in the past. Therefore any revision from the colonial government cannot be trusted to benefit the Maori people, instead it would likely aim only to further their dispossesion. Anyway, they have already said it will not get votes at second reading so it doesn't matter. The treaty stands.

      The government is unilaterally changing the treaty of waitangi by cutting out large portions of it and giving themselves ultimate power, which means no one can challenge them in court for bad decisions like confiscating land or allowing 1 in 3 children to be sexually abused when they uplift them and place them with known rapists or pedophiles. Essentially, it takes a lot of rights away from all kiwi's to give themselves "full power" to not be challenged.
