@@nafvol5053 Decolonization only meant incessant destabilization attempts by western colonial powers and covert exploitation of native populations, still doing in it today, and this is a worldwide principle.
The Treaty of Waitangi (1840) allowed British colonisation of NZ in return for Māori citizenship and protection of their treasures (culture, language, land etc). But it was written in both Māori and English and said very different things. Since 1975 the principles of the treaty (the ideas that are meant to represent what the two versions intended to guarantee) have been in NZ law. The courts and a body called the Waitangi Tribunal have interpreted these concepts and decided what they think are the principles. These include participation in government, partnership, active protection of Māori and redress of grievances for violations of the treaty. This has led to much debate over things like having special Māori seats on local councils and resource management boards, and quotas for Māori students, affirmative action, in universities. The current bill would totally rewrite these principles to wipe out all those court rulings, abolishing any special place for Māori in NZ society. No more affirmative action, no special consultation for tribes over resource use, no more special seats for Māori on councils. It proposes to put this new set of principles based on pure equality (not equity) to a national referendum, letting the whole populace vote on the rights of a historically oppressed minority group. Naturally this is very controversial and seen as one party of the treaty (the Crown) trying to unilaterally change the meaning of it. The governing coalition have assured this bill will never pass. They will kill it at the second reading, meaning the whole thing is just a huge waste of time and resources. It was agreed to in order to get the votes of the far-right libertarian Act Party to form their government.

Now the govt is paying them in millions out of your taxpayer's money for their cultural revival. In return you have poor public services hospital and road infrastructure, ambulance takes hours to arrive, police never even come because they are afraid as these people can even punch a female officer on the face. They want privileged treatment where a guy tells an elderly Indian bus driver that he is his servant when asked to pay for the fare. Later he punches him unconscious as he leaves the bus. Another lost his life being stabbed and one lost his fingers as the guy weilded machete on him and his phone fell to the ground alongwith his fingers. yet they claim to have abusive violent past and trauma of colonisation. They have a lower tax braket but highest in receiving govt benefits yet have most percentage in the jail. After all this when you immigrate your kids will be doing this dance sticking tongue out in front of the females and gouging their eyes out. besides, they claim spitting on guest's feet and showing their private parts during haka is acceptable as challenge of haka.
