    If you want to learn this song right - you've come to the right place. I found this video and I said, "That's it!" ... I believe this may be the only video on UA-cam that will show you how to play this song the way it's supposed to be played. Excellent job and thank you!

      He is NOT playing it correctly. It is obvious he doesn't listen very well. Search for Floyd Cramer and put your headphones on and listen real good. You will see he is NOT even close!

    Kent, you have painted this evening to me in the light tone of nostalgia - when, in the late 50 - ies I started trying to play this style on piano; whereas in Russia no one and nowhere didn't play this music , there was no vinyl - only radio and Floyd Cramer. Since then for country piano I always kept in my heart a warm corner

    This was my first piece of sheet music... I think in 1960. This is a beautiful arrangement. I downloaded it and am working on all the grace notes. Thank you so much for the explanations in all your videos. I’m not at all good with jazz because I cannot walk and chew gum at the same time, but this one I think I can conquer. I do, however, enjoy your jazz tutorials.

    The main reason why I enjoy your tutorials so much is, that you're able to go through various genres (jazz, blues, country) in such complexity in a few minute video. As a self-taught piano player, it really gives me a different perspective on things - I'm able to see things in context, see the rules, that I somehow hear, but wasn't able to comprehend in such detail.
    I was wondering, if you could maybe do an analysis on a Matt Rollins' piano solo in the intro of I've Been To Memphis by Lyle Lovett. In the studio version, there's this really cool jazzy-bluesy-ragtime intro full of licks and great ideas. It also appears in the middle of the song and the outro. He also works with some weird time-signature, which I'm unable to understand when just listening to it. I'd be very much interested in your thoughts about it.

    It's over, our love affair,
    Too late now I find I care
    Her sweet love, never more I'll share
    She's gone, I'm alone,
    I was wrong, should have known
    Took her home after our last date.
    I searched for a simply way
    To tell her what I had to say
    I kissed her then I turned away
    Set her free, foolishly, destiny, misery
    Tragedy, on our last date.
    Took my ring from her trembling finger
    Brushed the tears from my baby's eyes
    Walked away, didn't know
    That I'd soon miss her so
    I guess I was too young to realize.
    So blind I couldn't see
    How much she really meant to me
    And that soon she would always be
    On my mind, in my heart,
    I was blind from the start
    Lost her love on our last date...
    This is the lyrics to the song "Lost our Love on our Last Date". Conway Twitty and Emmylou Harris sings it. As close to "Last Date" as you'll find.

      +Paul Allen Thanks Paul, I hope it wasn't too fast. I've learned the shorter tutorials get watched more. How can I hear an mp3 of the song you mentioned?

      @@KentHewittpiano88it was VERY fast. would love a version at 3/4 or even half tempo, though that does change how the grace notes sound

    I wish you had played it a little slower, because you did say it was worthy of good players, well most of us who view the tutorials are not experts, but keen to improve, so perhaps you can slow it down and add what fingers you find best to play the licks in the video, Other than that well played.

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  9 років тому +1

      +nottyash100 Thanks for the comment! I played this a little faster than the original tempo because I wanted to have time to do an analysis and hopefully keep it under 10 minutes. This song can be draggy because of the repetition. Also I'm finding people won't listen to long UA-cam videos, so my more recent vids are shorter. But I do offer the arrangement written out on my website as a free download, so that should help you to figure some things out.

    I for one do like it slowed down and you talking at the same time...I think most do. .. that might be a good question to ask viewers..

      Like I said earlier....slow videos won't be watched by most viewers.

      Hi Joe....it's only my take on it. I played it at a faster tempo, because who wants to watch a slow video. You understand I'm sure...and thanks!

    actually I don't know if he wrote it but there are 2 other versions one is a woman and hw other is Conway and it has some very sweet words .. Floyd Cramer definitely played the most popular

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  7 років тому

      Thanks for telling me that it was useful...there's also a wheel gear below the video which enables slowing down the video to 1/2 speed without changing the pitch.

      i have been working on this song 4 months-- how is your progress?

    • @PIANOSTYLE100
      @PIANOSTYLE100 7 років тому

      Joe Chovanec Joe see if there is a backing track selection on UA-cam.. That helps a lot and often you hear the base or base notes of the piano. Generally they are somewhat muted on better tracks.

    Hi, is there any rules on the usage of the grace notes?

    • @KentHewittpiano88
      @KentHewittpiano88  6 років тому

      That's about all I can say about it...all in the video. The important thing is to realize the melody is the lower note in the right hand, so the grace notes are played as much as possible... without being ridiculous.

    I like the lesson, but this version is different that the arrangement on your site.

      Like poetic license. It's probably that I always play a score with a certain level of interpretation "in the moment". In other words it may not be precisely as written...but interpreted personally in a way that one feels at the time....that's jazz. There's more than just one option....use the one that's best for you.
