Love, love, love this format! Just hanging out on the porch, chatting about the creation of an amazing company. Nick - your simply the most amazing interviewer!
Great interview, happy to hear about their philosophies. OP-Z is already the most instant fun I had with music making and this makes me believe they will perfect it yet.
Love my OP-1 - but I really hope they get better at customer service. Support and issue resolution horror stories are out there. Maybe exaggerated? But as a company I would hope they'd be concerned and get out in front of these issues.
Yes I hear you @@jakewelch.design . The exact same thing happened to me. Twice. I had an issue with my OP1. A month went by with no reply. Then I get a message to rate their customer service. I then had an issue with another product (the new modular). I got charged for shipping even though it should have been free. I wrote. Another month, no reply. Message to rate their customer service. LOL. As far as I can see, they have no customer service right now. That's not good enough. I love their products but they need to get their shit together and answer their emails.
Wow, I very much appreciate you mentioning this because I was seriously considering jumping in with the 400 series modular (the next batch). Have either of you tried a tweet to their Twitter account? Maybe that will awaken them to the communications issue.
I contacted my local dealer and he helped me with the OP1. As for the second issue, I've sort of given up on that, resigned to the fact that TE are like the Ryanair of synths when it comes to customers, they'll treat you like shit but as long as you're aware of that in advance, you don't expect anything more. Everything is fine until something goes wrong. Then its everyone for themselves. @@nsjx
Thanks for being so bad at your job! You made everyone think the TimbreWolf sucks! ...& as a result, I was able to buy mine for $199, *BRAND NEW!!!* :P
Seems like they are trying to say that actually they are more like a band rather than a company. Only that they don't write and play music but build products together.
Are they held, hostage? It looks like you kicked in the door to their hotel room and told them to line up on the baseboards outside to talk about their design philosophy or else. I support your work.
Wow !sonic state i remember the infamous synth site which was and apparently still a very useful site for learning about different machines..rock on sonic state!
So, Teenage Engineering is pretty much the synth version of Hammer and Chisel (the guys that made Discord)?I won't be surprised if these people just disappear in a cash scam or something. Their customer support is pretty much non-existent, while the OP-1 is being sold at almost 2k in some places.. You're close to that goal already.
My favorite company at the moment i love the Op-1 so much got 2 plus pocket operators n oplab keep going guys your like reason with hardware oddly now i understand propellorheads reason alot more!
I wanted the opportunity to purchase an OP-1 and it has come. I received my 1st OP-1 on Friday 22nd. I am very happy with it and learning its features and the work flow to become a skilled instrumentalist. I am very grateful to Teenage Engineering for continuing to produce and invest themselves in the OP-1, making it available to the next generation. TE is a great company that has made an iconic instrument. One indication of this is how polarized people have become.
I've been a member of UA-cam almost from its inception onto the internet as I see you have been also, Nick, but have you ever seen this video ? ua-cam.com/video/dDa3ARP2Rww/v-deo.html It's an old school favorite of mine.
So sad...seing nice people making all the wrong moves! Overpriced re-issue of the OP 1 (after publicly announcing that now is not the time to buy those overpriced (!) used ones)...reimbursing people on the preordered modulars (why not giving them a choice?)... Sad, sad, sad
The arrogance and ego of these guys knows no bounds... Apple ambitions coming to fruition. Lamest company out there. Poser vibes on tap. ‘We don’t care about design. We care about quality’ LMAO. The opposite is way closer to the truth...
Get those guys some sunglasses
Alphastare haha
They're not teenagers at all!
I know right! More like Adulescent Engineering.... We've been duped since the get go ^^
Great interview Nick. Thanks to everyone involved here. Awesome people talking to awesome people.

Why not ask the girl a question?
It would have been nice to interview everyone, or at least introduced them individually
I can feel their eyes burning 🔥
I agree with Nick. Teenage Engineering all look like they were born to be Southern Californians. I like their ethos and designs.
Thanks for this insight! It's great to see and hear the people behind these creative machines.
Great interview, happy to hear about their philosophies. OP-Z is already the most instant fun I had with music making and this makes me believe they will perfect it yet.
That one guy with a teenage engineering tattoo on his arm, now that's one guy down for the crew!!¡!🎹👍
The only one who didn't get to say anything was the woman, seems like a nice company.
The interviewer acted is if she wasn’t even there. I really wanted to hear what she had to say.
Blame the interviewer...

Dean Sabatino I emailed them like 2 months ago, and a few days ago I got a survey for how the customer service was hahah I didn't even get a response

Le Cliché Ha! Fitting analogy ;) Well, ...Bummer,...I’ll wait til the kinks are worked out.
4:38 is Mr. Kouthoofd talking about the OP-Z --> high quality?
Thanks for the insightful interview. This was to tease the rest of us stuck here in a rather chilly Sweden ;)
Jesper looks like Swedish James Hetfield
How come I wasn't invited to this gathering?

Good morning Anaheim! The breakfast bar is open.
I wonder when the OP-1 will be manufactured again.
Aaron Michaud never I hope
Fj Francois why??
I had hoped that there may be a clue given in the discourse of this interview.
Its manufactured and available for order, oh yeah its 1399 EUROs now :)

Interesting, just checked out their phones. Look good
TVs no
Thanks for the interview
The Pocket Operators are clearly inspired by Kraftwerk.
Not sure how to deal with the fact that the one woman in the team had zero mic time...
It's kind of a Swedish thing to be unsure of how to deal with things like that. Totally agree!
She didn't seem to want to contribute so...
Would you like a therapy pony? 😂 Why must EVERYTHING be about social "justice?"
I did actually ask her if she wanted to talk but said she didnt. I agree it was a little odd
Haze Anderson 👀🤣
Geniuses.
I've been misled! They're not teenagers!!!
At least one of them is married!
The OP-1 is a great design. Reminds me of a Leica-M. It's a great design that doesn't need changing up every year.
