  • Here's our reaction to The Bear 2x7! This one was HIGHLY anticipated!
Everyone keeps telling us to watch this show. So we finally got around to it!
Join us as we follow a young chef, Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, after he inherits his family's Italian beef sandwich shop after the suicide of his older brother. He comes home to Chicago to run it, leaving behind his world of working in a Michelin star restaurant. He is left to deal with his brother's unresolved debts, a rundown kitchen, and an unruly staff, while dealing with his own pain and family trauma.

I love how they flip “every second counts” as a phrase. I’m not sure about everyone else but I’m used to “every second counts” being “don’t become complacent”. It’s nice that they’ve made it that every second can lead to greatness. Now I feel bad for spending 48 seconds typing this comment😂😂😂

I love how the final moment of this episode mirrors Chef Terry's own story:
Terry, at the lowest point in her life, rounds the corner of a Chicago street and sees the sign. It's a literal sign that reads, "Restaurant for Lease." That is the moment she knew what path she would take in life.
Richie, at the lowest point in his life, rounds the corner of a kitchen and sees the sign. It's a literal sign that reads, "Every Second Counts." That is the moment he knew what path he would take in life.
Little details like that are why I love this show

@huvrmedia if you really want your mind blown... when Carmy tells Marcus the story about the chef who was the first to figure out how to get the right texture of the dessert when no one else could, he's talking about himself. He was the one who figured it out, and the giveaway is because he's making that dessert in the flashback where the other chef is calling him worthless. He didn't say it was him because he wasn't telling the story to build himself up. He wants to encourage Marcus to grow, so he takes his own ego out of the story. Also, he gains a lot of respect for Sydney in that scene because she knew the secret to getting the right consistency (congealed veal fat) right away. You can see he's surprised when she says it, and I think that's why he felt he could make her his #2 for The Bear. It showed him that she's on his level.

This episode is my favorite of the season. Maybe even the series. Watching a man find purpose, fall back in love with life, it's just an amazing thing to watch.

easily the best episode of the entire series thus far. Richie realizing who he is and what his purpose is...beautiful...The soundtrack for the show continues to be spectacular. The Talking Heads, Taylor Swift woven seamlessly into this episode.

One of my favourite episodes of television probably ever but definitely in 2023. "Love Story" by Taylor Swift will never be the same.

loved this episode. The book Richie was reading was called unreasonable hospitality which my wife said was one of the best things she's ever read (as she also works in hospitality) and is written by a restaurant owner about the very things in this episode; the attention to detail, going the extra mile (more than would be reasonable to expect as a customer)

When Richie gets up at 5:32 am, music from the movie "Thief" by Tangerine Dream starts playing. I got so excited. I wore that album out in the early '80's. Loved driving to it. Great vid!

At the end when you guys were talking about how soft Chef Terry was in comparison.. I took that as a sign of respect. Personally, I will never work harder than working for someone I truly admire and appreciate. You don't need to be mean, hard, and callous, when everyone respects you and I am sure that this is where it stems from.

I’m not a deep dish fan but that version looked great and more palatable to me. Agreed that it wasn’t really in the true spirit of a deep dish pie though.

@@PhilipManzano like I love Fishes, but because it was such a masterfully constructed story, but it was *so fucking stressful* to watch.
Forks on the other hand is fantastic. Especially with Richie belting out Taylor Swift, when you consider what he told his daughter, "I love Taylor too, I just needed a little break".

@@PhilipManzano The show runners KNEW that you had to watch "Fishes" to truly appreciate "Forks". You had to see what Richie was, in the past, someone who was trying to find a way to be a good husband and father. You had already saw Richie as this gun brandishing, drug dealing, mess making asshat. But he was always more than that and "Fishes" then "Forks" showed that. He just needed direction, and Chef Terry's restaurant, at Carmy's behest, was able to show Richie what he had in him that was beyond the insanity of the Beef and the Bear.
