As the title suggests, Weird Dreams is a game completely off the wall it rarely makes any kind of sense, and the gameplay is so punishing it can be the stuff of nightmares.
The basic premise is you're trying to escape from a catatonic state, and you must brave the horrors of your own subconscious to find and retrieve three gems(?).
One other interesting thing about the game is it featured as phone-in competition on late 80s/early 90s kids TV show (possibly Motormouth).

One of the most atmospheric games released in the 80'

35 years later it is still ... weird
So glad i finally saw the end, as a kid i never made it past the garden, you have 0 idea how hard this is to play ha, everything you do has to be pixel perfect or you die yet still one of the games that has stayed in my head all these years! So good
Yeah, the video makes it look like an easy, quick run through the game. It was absurdly difficult, especially because you never had any idea what you were actually supposed to be doing.
Herman Serrano does not take drugs. Drugs take Herman Serrano.
I bet they're often overdose.
I think that the piano's stage is the most beautiful part of this scary, bizarre adventure.
Despite the creepy toothy Jack-in-the-box? (Yes, that's it's mouth teeth, not a neck frill it's playing like a piano)

Freakishly difficult, atmospheric game, conducive to nightmares. I could never go past 10-30%. Glad to finally see full game here. Thanks!

Wish I could've known about this game when I was a kid. Would've probably given me night terrors.
I never made it past the desert. I made it past the garden out of sheer luck (going through the bushes to exit the level isn't very intuitive...). I have to say that i do not like this game. There is a significant delay in the controls and most of the time it feels like you're hitting things or making jumps at random. All these problems make the game unnecessarily difficult and definitely not fun to play. Too bad, because with the surreal/gory atmosphere and the colorful graphics it could have made for a great gaming experience.
You play football, then you have to go in the bushes. I'd say that's just like real life!

Same here. I was fascinated by the uniqueness of this game in its time, yet found it very frustrating.

It was a great game experience - for the right player. It's just a very, very different sort of game. The controls were intentionally slow and sluggish. I don't think I ever made it past the desert. That first part where you're in the cotton candy machine, I used to think it was a blood separator or something medical because of the surgeons at the beginning.
Even though it's candyfloss I think it's clearly meant to look a little bloody 😉

This was my fav and hardest game for me when I had a few gos on it at a mates
I'd seen on TV, but never played it prior to the video. It's cool, but it's so hard!
This type of gameplay reminds me of what was to come in the later CD-ROM multimedia years... minus the terrible FMV.
It really drove me nuts as a kid. It was truly ahead of its time, but not in a good way. 8)

Really a weird dream.
Almost like the programmer played Frankie Goes To Hollywood and then had a few anchovy and sauerkraut pizzas. Certainly pegs the WTF meter!
It's a shame that the gameplay isn't that great because it's one that sticks out in my mind a lot, especially the part with the weird mime playing the piano. I fell like this could be remade with the source engine, or even just a HL2 mod.

Despite having an Amiga, I never actually played this, but I used to love it on Motormouth. I'm disappointed to discover that the spooky, atmospheric music from Motormouth isn't actually in the game itself! For me, the tune was the best bit! (If you don't remember the music, imagine the Weakest Link's "walk of shame" music overlayed with the 'ooo-eee-ooo' from Doctor Who!)
Lee, do you remember what time they did the Weird Dreams game on Motormouth? Was it the same year they had Gunge 'Em in the Dungeon, by any chance? I did not remember the music, but I did know it wasn't in the game itself.
