    I remediate mold for a living. There’s no way I’d let myself or any of my crew touch the mold without a respirator. Maybe an n-95 for inspection. But as soon as we know there’s mold it’s time to put on the gear. I’ve never seen mold just under a sink. And most of the time we tear it down to the studs. You want to be sure. Your missing a few other steps that mold experts use as precaution. Like basic steps. I do agree that if the problem that caused the mold isn’t taken care of the mold will come back. All homes have some degree of mold. I’m unfamiliar with your product. But the product we use you don’t want to breath at all. And that goes for the mold as well. Get a full face respirator. They don’t cost that much. Tape your wrists. And put the dishes away. Like every inch of that room that is exposed needs to be cleaned. Unless you were to tent off just the sink and squeeze your Air-scrubber in with you. But how are you gonna get out without contaminating something. It could probably be done but it’s gonna be a pain.

      Can you share more info? Need assistance with some mold under a sink. What would you suggest? Not all mold removal companies are legit… and i know it’s better to replace materials than try to clean it.

    • @121macfreak
      @121macfreak Рік тому +10

      @@blueskies773 First thing you’ve gotta do is get the leak stopped. Most mold is caused because of a leak. Our latest remediation was caused because the drain in the wall was broken. Every time the dishwasher drained or the sink was running water was leaking into the wall. It could’ve been like that for years. We simply don’t know. There’s a lot of factors. Any materials that are porous get cut out. Insulation Sheetrock particle board etc. Usually we’re taking things down to the studs. If there’s mold on 1 side of the Sheetrock the chances of mold being on the back side is very high. You could clean it and it would come right back. Like the drain in the wall the problem hasn’t been dealt with. Few things to consider. If you start to disturb the mold is gonna spread if it hasn’t spread already. Before we even touch it we put up containment and create a negative air pressure. Full face respirator should be used as well as a full body n95 suit. Notice not to breath through. Breathing through an N95 is pointless when it comes to mold or certain diseases that can pass right through it. I’m not saying that guys don’t do it without safety precautions. There’s probably guys that jump down into sewers to clean them without PPE. But it’s stupid and they’re taking there lives in there hands. Honestly the best thing to do is call professionals. If they tell you with a straight face that bleach works don’t hire them. Also try to call a number directly. Ads on Google can charge the business a lot of money. Which is fine as long as you hire them. But for us we’ve lost jobs that cost us 300 just for the call. So regardless of what happens we tend to want are money back to at least break even. So if you call a number directly you much more likely to get a guy to come look at it for free to give you an idea of what it’s gonna cost. Bleach bleaches mold. It looks good but doesn’t kill the mold. A lot of mold killing chemicals include bleach but it’s not just bleach. I’m a little weary to give you chemical names. Because if these chemicals touch your skin they burn you. You breath them in they’ll mess you up. If you spray them without proper ventilation or negative pressure it could be a big problem. You spray them with an n95 mask your gonna get sick. The chemicals are sold directly to mold remediation companies and not to the general public for a reason. We’ve come out of crawl spaces and because we caught our suits on a nail ended up burning holes in our clothes. The last big one we did I had a few drops somehow make there way from my elbow length sealed gloves down to the end of my suite and under my suite down to the elbow where it pooled up. We’re talking drops and at the time there was no way I could get to my elbow because I was so bundled up. I could feel the burning but because we were up in an attic all day you wonder if it’s a cramp or your imagining it. Took the suite off afterwards and saw the burn. It was visible for a couple months. Take it from someone that knows what they’re doing. Even though we know and we take every precaution possible we can still get hurt. Thankfully because we do it every day we know what to look for and are always improving our process. Personally I would strongly recommend getting a professional to take a look. You can tell him straight up that it’s not very big and that a mold remediation company said bleach doesn’t work. Ask him what he would recommend. He may have a chemical to recommend. But again all the supplies to deal with it yourself it’s probably gonna be easier to have him do it. He may be able to seal off just the cabinet depending on the materials. We’ve considered doing that before and just sticking our upper body in to spray. Good luck on getting it dealt with but call a professional at the very least for advice.

    • @121macfreak
      @121macfreak Рік тому +2

      Also if the leak is under the sink go below the sink and check. If you have a crawl space check below. Personally I’d wear a full face and suit but if your careful you should be fine. If there’s a basement check below the sink for a stain. If there’s a stain more than likely you’d have mold in the basement as well.

      correct it has been, so has a-lot of things that are very harmful asbestos lead and several drugs are a few that come to mind quickly. Just because things are created doesn’t mean they are safe. I’m pretty sure the comment was to inform this guy if he’s gonna post a video that the video should be done right. T flap on the wrong side, no negative pressure, simply spraying an anti microbial and wiping in this specific situation is stealing money from people and giving them a false sense that something was done. The homeowner could of used dish soap and had the same out come as this bozo.

    • @markhonea2461
      @markhonea2461 2 роки тому +5

      Hepa vacuum is all groovy if you have that capability. My alternative to that is to have the shop vac outside many feet away from the house, with a long enough vacuum house of course, have the exhaust pointing away from the house, strong bleach and water solution in the shop vac., and the door closed over the vacuum hose as much as possible. I don't ever expect to eliminate the mold spores, they are ambiguous, and further, I don't want to collect and concentrate them in a hepa filter. Unless you have an industrial size ( and industrial cost) hepa filter, any hepa filter I have seen would become clogged rapidly and become ineffective if you are attempting to overcome a major problem.
      Just an alternative that is available to the d.i.y.- ers.

    Mold is no joke. I've dealt with many people who 'co-existed' with a 'musty odor' coming from their basement/crawlspace - even 10 - 20 years in the past when they lived in a different house in a different state and then Boom! Their health starts getting compromised in a big way and they become MCS/Chemically Sensitive. Then they need to so a serious detox to become healthy again. 😑

Pulling out any affected surfaces and spraying it down with a hydrogen peroxide mix/solution . I don't care if it looks amazing under the kitchen sink. I just want it spotlessly clean, dry, cleansed of the mould and then it will get 2 coats of KILZ and 2coats of white semi-gloss. Also a dehumidifier is key. The plumbing parts when I moved in were clearly the cause. Can only do my best👍

Our bathroom window is painted shut there is no ventilation system. Home is 100+ years old. Mold in living room under toilet and near decorative leaded glass window. This wall was annihilated during hurricane Sandy. The entire wall and ceiling needed rebuilt. That wall is soggy again and the mold stains are back right here in my living room. Huge patches in the basement and definitely not great under sink situation. @@Z-Ack toxic mold is NOT something most doctors learn about, straight away that’s a problem. Every time I mentioned the possibility of it I was laughed out the doctors surgery. Only now that I’m developing too many red blood cells , polythycemia ( a form of blood cancer ) and breathing issues is it starting to get noticed. My partner has COPD and mold is often a big part of the picture expecially as smokers are exposed to it in cigarettes , cannabis and the home environment in our case was hiding it. My partner went to 7 years worth of appointments in hospital and it was not picked up apon. When it comes to why we never tried harder to find out what was happening you clearly have not been affected by mold mycotoxins , they cause many health symptoms that will have you more bed bound by the day. I thought I had a clean living environment , sadly the toxic mold was in the air vents , they are in my ceiling and o had no way to know it was there or clean them as they go up into the ceilings out of the way. The hospital failed my partner , even nodules on the lungs were just watched not properly checked , mycobacterium TB was only found by a different hospital many years later so it had done damage, it was also only treated for 3 months instead of 2 years , the hospital won’t fund more treatment now that they have decided it’s a waste of money for a dying man. Sick or what, on top of that my partner caught a hospital superbug which may well have killed his 44 year old brother and now adds to the dire situation we’re all in , it cannot be treated they did try and it remains in the lungs in deep parts .I’ve read about biofilms we have symptoms of them too but In the end 7 years of breathing in mold from filthy infested air vents is what has done most of the damage. I’ve only found out recently my partner is dying , so I’m still getting my head round it as he’s only in very early 40s. It’s quite a shock to be told palliative care is only option at that age. My partner was a gardener , he was very good at it too , he also cared many years for elderly family members pretty much full time only 7 years ago he had strength to throw a lawnmower around , now he’s bed bound unable to breathe. Mold is not something anyone should under estimate , repeated exposure is simply deadly to some people.

    The only way to remove mold is to completely remove all the drywall and wood it is in. I have lived with black mold which was sanitized then drywall was put on top of it, drywall breathes the mold spores come through it. I get extremely ill around black mold spores. To address it properly all the mold containing materials must be removed sanitizing does not work. You cannot just remove black mold in three minutes that is impossible. The number one key is prevention so it doesn't grow in the first place. Black mold is lethal, I get so, so ill from it. That I now live in a brand new apartment and I use a dehumidifier to prevent moisture from developing and I wipe my windows regularly of any excess condensation so there is zero black mold. So answer me this, everybody says to barricade the area to avoid spores transferring to another area within the household and will start growing again.. i only see a health issue with any kind of airborne mold spores. 1) mold needs moisture to grow, even if a mold spore landed anywhere in the house if theres no moisture than it cant grow. 2) all wood contains some amount of mold growth inside the wood unless its been treated, therefore everything just about has some spore activity within its porous structure, if its porous.. so no matter what in almost any environment if you get something wet and leave it in a dark and undisturbed place, it will inevitably grow mold whether it be black, brown or bacterial.. when referred to as spores think of mushrooms. They release spores to reproduce, so does mold. But unless conditions are perfect than the mold or mushrooms cant grow and die out. Now i dunno how long it takes a spore to stop having thr ability to reproduce but im assuming its a very long time seeing on how it lies dormant inside porous surfaces, indefinitely for all i know... so why do so many people say put up a barrier to stop the mold spores for any other reason than health concerns? In a hospital environment i understand as infection risk could rise with presence of spores on surgical equipment as well as immuno effects.. buy still health oriented.

    • @TwinHomeExperts
      @TwinHomeExperts  3 роки тому

      Great information here! When there is present active mold growth, then this environment typically has already contaminated other areas by spores releasing into the air. This is why most people get sick.
      When it comes to determining building a critical barrier, this has to happen when you are removing all compromised materials ( drywall,, wood etc) this protects from cross contamination.
      When you are not removing and the moisture source is fixed then we can remove the mold and even do a whole house treatment without the need of building a containment.

    That Chirping from the smoke detector OMG, you should have helped them change the battery. I don't know how people live with that chirping sound, like they just tune it out and ignore it. That would bother me in the first 5 minutes. The scum on the front of those cabinet faces, they look like they haven't been cleaned in a long time. I don't know how some people live like that.

    What about brick)stone? I have a tone of it in my basement. My Landlord does everything herself. This is a new place. There is mold in the basement, the seal for the tub is rotted off and is almost all black, the windows because there is a crack from one side to another. So I bought some mold remover and it didn't work. What should I do.
