I don't know if they purposely aged Don throughout the series due to alcoholism, smoking and just the overall unhealthy lifestyle, but he really looked so much fresher and younger in the first season
The pilot was filmed a good 18 months before the rest of season one. You can notice the difference starting as soon as the second episode. That age is also when men’s face begins to start showing age, which is usually hidden by facial hair, but because it was set in the past it couldn’t have that.

Had this exact conversation with an ex employee once, he lasted less than 2 weeks before he was slapped with a sexual misconduct at work. He was fired, no unemployment to claim and a tainted record.
Ask people to name the best TV show of all time and most will say Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, The Wire... but for me it's Mad Men. The characters, the dialog, the style, it had it all and that ending. Too perfect

LOL I forgot how smarmy and sleazy Pete Campbell was in the beginning. The writers were overdoing it with their depictions of racism and sexism, in that first season. In later seasons they did a much better job of showing us the racism and sexism in more subtle ways, like real life. Does anyone seriously believe that grown men talked like that, openly, to women, even back then? Without being seen as an absolute piece of shit? Even movies of that era depicted such men as baddies to get beaten up by the hero. This scene, like so many in season 1, comes off weak because it doesn’t feel “real”. I had forgotten how much the show improved from that first episode.

My sister in law was discriminate in a n interview in the bning system,very well qualified and even past exams, and very well dressed for a heavy women.The interviewers sized her up and left the room for a.moment,but not without writing something in resume,she saw what he wrote obese and wasn't hired.They hired a very Hollywood style women,needless to say,she wasn't as qualified,they then called her back,but she found a better job.They need to brig back older women ,so they can concentrate on there job and not on women trying to score.
To be fair to to the other woman, everyone needs to start somewhere and get training. For the company though, how chauvinistic to hire an unqualified woman and not train her, how sexist and idiotic to write something so offensive on file, how ugly and childish it is to call back the person you insulted to offer them the job after refusing to train the person. Why would you think she would ever want to work for you after that at any price point? Let alone a lowball? Delusional. I’m sorry to her and happy she got better work.

Don Draper is a class act, straight from episode 1. So many people got turned off of this show because of the chauvinism, not realizing that the ENTIRE SHOW is about the transition from 1960 to 1970.
Funny thing is that as later episodes show that season, she REALLY was into Pete treating her like that. And those women my friends are some do the most fun.
In the end I liked Peter. He was always trying to be something he isn't. And he was a complete a**hole while trying. But in the end I had the feeling he learns. And the last scene on the plane leaving with his family... I always liked to think this is the first day of a nicer Pete.
I realised this much later on a second watch of the show : this is exactly the point where Don and Pete start on their opposite trajectories. By the end Don loses his wife to death (initially Henry) and his daughter to estrangement. He has a mental breakdown and sobs in front of what he calls 'a weak man' as all his pent up emotions pour out. Peggy also leaves him although that happens earlier. He's still a great ad man but his co-workers lose trust in him because he's highly unreliable by the end. Meanwhile Pete experiences true love (forgot the name of the neighbour woman with memory loss) and the anguish of losing it. He makes up with his wife and daughter and goes back to live with them as a changed man. He's on the board of one of the biggest ad agencies. He even makes up with Peggy after a heartfelt conversation. While Pete matures after various stumbling blocks and mistakes, Don sinks deeper and deeper into his hole despite success at almost every turn.
If he said that to a woman today, he will probably got this chin checked, reported to HR for sexual-harassment, sued and fired. Didn’t appreciate the little pipsqueak and what he said. Haha…Yeah, got that smirk wiped right off his face.
