I run a 225 f1 team with 130k miles on it, had it 4.5 years. Replaced swivel hub bearings and other than normal wear and tear items it has been a brilliantly reliable car. Beautifully weighted steering, massive grip, snicky 6 speed box and brilliant brakes! Also love the looks, (groundbreaking for the time) Sorted temperamental window wiring with insulation tape to stop the damp ingress and has been fine for 4 years. All in all it is a characterful car and it encourages enthusiastic driving. Every drive a thrill! Mods completed, rs tuner stage 1 remap, uprated engine mounts, short shifter and exhaust silencer delete are all definite improvements i have carried out. Because of badge snobbery these cars are also great value!

I had one of these, was my 2nd car after coming from a 1.2 Fiat Punto, felt like a beast! Was awful putting power down in the rain but could've been bit down to tyres too. Was pretty powerful though :) I went to a MK5 GTI after which didn't feel quite as fast in terms of overall power but put the power down much better

Nice to see one like mine, there were many specials that are popular but Lux pack makes a great daily driver. Had a mild map from RS Tuning in Leeds years ago and has been great, boost slightly earlier and economy at least as good.
With good tyres its mega grippy and agile.

had mine 9 years, apart from windows "bof" (French for not today sunshine) no issues.
My car is 4 door the year before the one you review. 90k, paid £3300. Never let me down, never cost much, but my mate is a mechanic and it's looked after. I put cup spec suspension on, so 25mm lower all round, all poly bushes. It's a go cart. The Dave cut out the centre box and replaced it with straight pipe, not too loud but pops and bangs. Great for getting lock down conversation in the middle of the road cyclists out of the way.
My lovely other half has a very boring very practical diesel C3, so the meg is pretty much a toy.
I am getting a lot of top end noise currently but I haven't looked into it, well, I say I haven't looked into it much, I mean my mechanical m8 has not got round to it despite it coming up every time we have a pint. People fear Renaults for reliability, which makes it cheap for us that aren't so swayed by main stream media.
Better than my Saab 96, better than my 205 1.9 gti, better than my clio 172.

Agree with the pricing of these. The slightly earlier ones were around when Fords Mk1 Focus RS came on the scene around 2003 yet you would need 4 or 5 times the money to buy one of those compared to these and the Megane has more power too if not quite the cornering prowess.
The 4dr is a good all rounder.
Those dials look rather bolt upright instead of being aimed at your eyes.......
Possibly wouldnt rev as high if it was more boosty. The RS focus was kind of done by 6500rpm tops but the delivery wasnt linear.
    A good cheap car these.....

I've got the same car in Red, had it also for 5 years and one of the best cars I've had, for the price you really can't go wrong, the main issue with electrics are things like windows, ABS wires, silly things that can easily be fixed so don't be put off, loads of room and plenty of power, I'm currently running 280BHP and it keeps up with most cars, I've looked at other similar cars in the price range but you just can't get everything that the Megane 225 5 door offers. 😁👍

Ive got an Evo 6, but always had a soft spot for these. Despite the "French Reliability" that these get tarred with, they are fantastic value, and getting older, its more of a mechanical hot hatch where you need to work it to get the pops and bangs and adapt your driving to the car. Hot hatches nowadays, are faster, but anyone can drive them. Plus an R26 can keep on the heels of a Mk2 RS, for less than half the cash.
This vid made me happy :)

And the german way to engineer themselfs out of doing any warrenty as wel. Just replace the owners manual at the next service to increase the amount of oil the engine should be allowed to consume.... So yeah there is a reason im looking at a bit older cars like this type of renault. And i know of the laguna with its problems, had a few of those in the shop as wel. Replaced the keycard receiver on those a few times back in the day(costing about €1000 at the time i think, but that was probably including labour) But we have never had a megane 2 in the shop ever. Dont buy this car, its impossible to change a light if u dont take of the front wheels. The electronics like he sad are awfull, a known problem is that the Airbag lamp turns on and off. Its because the cable underneath the front and passage seat. They are very very hard to get to and actually dangerous since if u dont bleed the car of power and try to fiddle with the cable under the seats with your head that low u might end up with a airbag side blow out in your face. The cables needs to be cut and resoldered and that might sound easy but u have to remember its unerneath the seats. I own a 2003 and I had to switch my car battery four times, I think its one of the lamps that is using up power even when the car is off. The car is cheap for city driving and its perfect since its smaller and easy to park. It also has a very good handling since its wide and low so its glued to the road in high speeds. But the electrics kills it. Also mine is loosing all its clearcoat and I heard that is also a well known problem. So im gonna paint it matt black and sell as fast as I can for around 900bucks and it has rolled for low 13thousand miles and the timing belt is new so I hope somebody buys it so dont have to see it anymore.

      You can't cant get a 5 door R26!
The cars not even a cup, it has silver calipers.
All cup equipped cars came with red calipers.
Could have been painted but would you change them to silver?!

Yes, correct as I understand. Have a mint 2008 225 Cup with red Brembo's and LSD with a stage 2 tune, resonator delete and cold intake. Looks stock.. Just getting to know it@@benbaldwin7096
