*Now, here's something I'd like to see in Total War someday, now that there's hope:* *Create your own units:* You choose the age demographic of your soldiers. You choose the weapons, and the shields (if any). You give them armor, and choose whether they are mounted. Statistics are calculated for those troops, and they set out into the world. Instead of producing armies, you produce weapons, and your armies are centered around your weapons. Imagine decking out a battalion with the most expensive armor and weapons money can buy. Imagine, in your hour of desperation, equipping your elderly and your youth with spears and pitchforks, because that's all you can acquire while under siege. Imagine cutting off a nation's supply of iron, and watching them convert their military and military culture into pikes. It would be Avatar Conquest mode on steroids. What I'd definitely love to see along with the n1 change is Armour upgrades actually take effect and have visual updates like in Med 2. For example a Barbarian Warband with the first tier of upgraded Armour will have leather Armour or chainmail in second tier etc instead of being naked barbarians like in the original. I think a good video would be the major differences between Rome Remastared and Rome II. AP keeps saying there’s some great gems in this game and it would be a good idea for a vid to explain what these are to intice more players
Having individual faces for soldiers is great but having some variations in equipment (armour, shield...) would also be good, since equipment wasn't fully standardised until the industrial era. The engine is fully able of handling that, there's already that in Medieval II.
mate when you mentioned the soundtrack as a change before you went on to say it was the same tracks but remastered I nearly had aa heart attack. I'm unbeleivably hyped for this, I've always wanted Rome 1 but with a higher faction limit
@@MelkorGG I really hope they increase it, it makes no sense to have a hard limit on either the number of factions or the size of the campaign map, they are already officially supporting modding and Rome 2 already has way more factions, they'd just be hamstringing themselves if they didn't open it up
@@mattwhelan13 If there going to be lots of more factions, then there should be somekind division of their power and influence (like tribes/city-state/kingdom/empire, + vassals and protectorates) which affects diplomacy and deals. And maybe that could break the fun in gameplay..
I don't know if CA allows those with advance copies to disclose this, but if they do, it would be interesting to know about the rebalancing. I think weaker chariots have been mentioned. Are there any other notable changes? It's subjective but my impression was that the Roman unit stats were a little too strong (esp. post-Marian) and the Gallic type barbarians a little underpowered. That may be outside the scope of the remaster, but the "balancing" toggle button caught my eye.
Things I hope also get's reworked 1. Meme bronze age Egypt, could be toggled on and off and perhaps give a more Greco vibe to it's units. 2. Fucking blood curdling death screams when a character died. Child me had nightmares from that shit.
Ethnically linked soldiers is just a bad idea. Why would a gallic warband recruited in rome be made up of romans? Or an hoplite unit made up of germans?
When they say "balance in auto-resolved battles has been improved", does that mean that you can wipe out overmatched armies in the field via autoresolve? It always annoyed me how you had to manual resolve if you wanted to get rid of some random 5-stack army out in the field
actually one more thing i want is for battle maps to always be 2x2km instead of only 1x1km in field battles. only having half the campaign usable in battle means you could end up with good terrain stuck in out of bounds even if you moved just 1 tile over on the campaign.
I am honestly looking forward to the toggles the most. Rome total war was my very first total war game and so I look at it with particularly rose tinted glasses. It’s nice to know that if a bunch of these changes do you wind up bothering me I can always go back and play with those features turned off.
Does the diplomacy rework also make the AI stay loyal to their treaties with you if they like you? Because in the original, regardless of difficulty, they would take one of your nearby poorly defended settlements without hesitation even if they are allies.
This is awesome! I just need a little bit more to be 100% complete... *No more indestructible/unconvertible buildings.* I never built farms in Barbarian Invasion because they upped squalor and couldn't be demolished without modding the game. And also max level governor buildings and walls of an opposing culture were annoying because they provided a permanent public order penalty that you simply couldn't do anything about. Even if it cost an exorbitant sum in game, I'd love the ability to max level governor buildings and walls so they become your own faction's culture. This also helps with your "I hate having to let my capital rebel so I can exterminate them for public order" issue you mentioned earlier.
I had no idea about that #1 change, that is pretty damn cool if correct. This remaster was an instant buy for me, looking forward to playing RTW in 4k :D
Finally a video on the changes ! No one else has done this!! So excited for diplomacy! I can finally play as Macedonia and have true greek allies against Rome!
the other way to deal with squalor in the original game is forced migration. build peasant units to lower pop. then move the unit to your least populated cities and disband. tedious for sure but also helped to bring faction culture to the outlying cites of the empire.
This is amazing. One thing I would like to be added to this game, would be a DLC which expands the different barbarians a bit. Going into the end game with Tier 3 settlements always felt a bit lackluster in my opinion. I know people will say, "BUT MODS", but the problem with Mods is they usually ramp up the difficulty to 11, and try to make battles last for hours because "realism". But, hey, maybe a good mod will come around which won't strangle the casual player for booting up the game! I do wish to get back to some historical. I haven't been able to enjoy a historical game in a long time...
Hi Melkor! I agree with all your points, but I have 2 open questions! 😆 1. Can you show us the Barbarian Invasion? 2. And is it possible now to play Alexander without an automatic end after 100 turns?
I cannot show BI. CA's rrules. The big youtubers get the game earlier, but we can only show BI and Alexander once the smaller UA-camrs get their hands on it, so they have something to cover also. As for Alexander, it is capped at 100 Turns, but like the original you can just load into the folder and delete that line. (I am sure there will be a Mod within the first few days anyway if you don't know how to do it)
@@MelkorGG 1. Thank you so much! I love your videos and I am a big fan. / Okay I understand this. + THANK YOU! I don't know this with Alexander! xD WOW super cool! Thx so much!
Also, adding the feature of when razing a settlement after a conquest, it will reduce its size 1 level down so that you can civilize it completely as your own.
A change that I'd like, would be a more intense unit upgrade and training mechanism, much like in mount and blade where you have to start with an army of peasants that upgrade over time and change into ranged, cavalry, skirmishes etc.

I think a good video would be the major differences between Rome Remastared and Rome II. AP keeps saying there’s some great gems in this game and it would be a good idea for a vid to explain what these are to intice more players
Good idea, I might do it. Issue is though, whenever I mention Rome 2 is a way that is not positive, even if I am fair, I just get bombarded by hate.
That these are all great changes AND optional is fantastic. This is just a magnificent offering of a remaster
Having individual faces for soldiers is great but having some variations in equipment (armour, shield...) would also be good, since equipment wasn't fully standardised until the industrial era. The engine is fully able of handling that, there's already that in Medieval II.
Lmao Rome remastered is gonna be lightyears better then Rome 2
True, (Lets hope like 90% of the vanilla factions aren't broken up into bits for mini-dlcs like Rome 2)
Rome 2 was pretty good tho
I legit used to use the add population cheat backwards (by making it negative) to deal with the squalor, that shit was ridiculous, pun intended.
Can't wait to use the remastered Oliphaunts to destroy Pontus, because who wants to play as Pontus?
Me
mate when you mentioned the soundtrack as a change before you went on to say it was the same tracks but remastered I nearly had aa heart attack. I'm unbeleivably hyped for this, I've always wanted Rome 1 but with a higher faction limit
That's the one bit of info I am struggling to get out of them, faction cap. It's the most requested feature right now, but I got no info :)
I LOVE this!!!!! Thank the lord ...My favorite total war game ever. You always love your first!
I was about to say "time to lose to squalor again" but didn't know it was changed, a much needed change. Thank the gods.
Do we know if the civil war still happens?
Not tested, but I am certain that would not have been cut.
Man o man I cant wait for the mods this puppy will get
I don't know if CA allows those with advance copies to disclose this, but if they do, it would be interesting to know about the rebalancing.
Things I hope also get's reworked
It always annoyed me how you had to manual resolve if you wanted to get rid of some random 5-stack army out in the field
will there be a multiplayer campaign?
I just realized that those units were making the shape of the number that each change was lol.
6:06 Why would a tavern provide bonus to health? If anything it should be negative effect.
Health boosts population growth. So the drunk barbarians are just geting ;)
alcohol is a sanitizer lol
Can’t wait to play
The best TW made even better!
Victory for Melkor!
Are factions like Numidia and barbarian factions in general viable late game? Do barbarian factions get tier 5 cities?
No clue. Not been able to get that far yet. But I do know unit stats have been rebalanced which should help. No tier 5 barbarians though.
Looks good and I hope that the guys who did Roma Surrectum II get a hold of it.
actually one more thing i want is for battle maps to always be 2x2km instead of only 1x1km in field battles. only having half the campaign usable in battle means you could end up with good terrain stuck in out of bounds even if you moved just 1 tile over on the campaign.
Do you smell that? Roma Surrectum IV is probably going to happen...
Extended Greek Mod (XGM) Remastered...
Cant wait for RTR mod based on remastered :)
My vote goes for Extended Greek Mod (XGM :)
I am honestly looking forward to the toggles the most. Rome total war was my very first total war game and so I look at it with particularly rose tinted glasses. It’s nice to know that if a bunch of these changes do you wind up bothering me I can always go back and play with those features turned off.
So do chariots still insta die to pikes and hoplites?
I am already planning my conquests
Will you do a video comparing class unit balance vs remastered unit balance?
Can i retrain my gold-tier hastati into urban cohorts or do i still lose my entire army during the marian reforms?
Does the diplomacy rework also make the AI stay loyal to their treaties with you if they like you?
Because in the original, regardless of difficulty, they would take one of your nearby poorly defended settlements without hesitation even if they are allies.
Yes, they are much better there.
@@MelkorGG thank to Allah for that
Yes I can finally get macedonia and greece to be true friends and take down rome together! Then reconquer the east in the name of Alexander!
I was so excited to hear about this! I wonder if Egypt is going to be a weird, ahistorical mess again. Still, this looks amazing!
Yep, Egypt is still stuck 2000 years behind everyone else :)
@@MelkorGG I mean, I wouldn’t expect anything less ;) There’s something comforting and familiar about anachronistic Egypt.
This is awesome! I just need a little bit more to be 100% complete...
*No more indestructible/unconvertible buildings.*
I never built farms in Barbarian Invasion because they upped squalor and couldn't be demolished without modding the game.
Did they add any new units to lacking roosters such as Numidia?
How about the requirements? Are they lower than Rome Total War 2?
I haven't been able to enjoy a historical game in a long time...
good to see the diplomacy changes, i'm very hyped to play this remastered version :D
Squalor was capped at 100% back then.
It didn't need any fix, I have never had to let a city revolt in order to keep it under control.
2:50 Whats that one white/grey city in the northern Russia?
Thank you for the very informative video! Can you please show us what new units are being added? Thank you so much.
I wish they would look into getting pathfinding fixed especially on larger units.
Squalor made sense to me. Watch the mini documentary "The Beautiful Ones" about Universe 25, the famous mouse experiment.
I actually really liked the old u.i. The scroll effect made me feel like a general looking through notes and maps to enact my plans on the world.
Whats the squalor cap at?
