Excellent demonstration Gaz , but I have to say that particular plug design I wouldn’t bother with I would throw it in the bin, no room in it and as you it is tight on space. The plugs with a single screw in the centre are way easier to wire as simply because of the centre screw means the manufacturer has maximised the space for the conductors. Also I strip the conductors so I have them poping out of the other side of the terminal a little bit hence the small recess on the earth terminal. There’s also just a tiny bit of space on the Neutral as well. . Excellent video as always Gas 👍👍

    Great video 👍
How about the "plug top challenge"
Fastest wiring of a plug top, knife and screwdriver only? ❤

I've done so many plugs over the years back when you had to. It's only now, seeing it in the context of all your other great videos, that I realise how rubbish these things always were! We just got on with it and swore, didn't we? 😀 Someone like Wago should come along and sort it out!

In my early days in the trade we used to call a wall socket a plug . If you look at labels in old fuse boxes very often it’s labeled lights and plugs .The plug that went in was hence called a plug top.
Roll on 40 odd years ,I still find at least 75% of customers still call wall sockets plugs..Example . Can you wire a plug in my garage for my new freezer

@@andysims4906 professionals ought to know that the correct terminology is a plug for the male connector, and socket outlet (or perhaps 'receptacle' for North America)

@@alistair1978utube You asked about plug top bottoms so I answered your question. Thats the way it was in the old days. . As I said if you look at labels in old fuse boxes especially up to the 70s it was mostly referred to as lights and plugs. I’m not saying it was right or wrong.
Not much different from today . Even professionals often call a consumer unit a fuse box

@@andysims4906i'm guessing your an experienced sparky then, any idea, why the plug he opens up at the beginning of the video, specifically 2:16 it still has the originall hole for the screw to close the two halves together between the live and earth pins, aswell as an extra one under the neutral pin?

@@thunderbal79the four holes under the line and Neutral Pins are 1) where the pins are press studs which form the top of the pins . The holes below are where the cord grips have a small lug on each that fits into the holes and then melted down to secure them in place. The screw to secure the plug together is in the centre so as to leave plenty of room for the conductors to sit neatly.

    That's a lousy plug top.
The brown conductor should be as short as possible to the extent that if the cord is pulled hard enough to pull the conductors out from the terminals, the brown should be first out. With this dog-leg around the moulding and the congestion where the three conductors squeeze through the limited space, it's likely that the brown insulator will catch on the corner and stretch instead of allowing the conductor to simply be pulled out.
