Some helpful tips when sewing the TOP to the BAND: 1. Cut notches all along the edge of the BAND (on the side that will connect to the TOP). This will give you more length when you pull at the fabric to properly align with the edge of the TOP panel (make sure you don't cut notches past the 3/8" seam allowance). 2. When sewing the BAND to the TOP, have the BAND piece on top. It is more likely to bunch up underneath your presser foot, so have that panel on top so that you can pull at it and ensure that it is lined up to the TOP panel. Apologies, I should've noted this in the video! Hope that helps
I'm a complete beginner so making a hat felt scary, but you made it so easy (and free!) so I was able to complete in one sitting, in 4 hours!! It feels so GOOD to sew something for my self. Now I feel like I can sew anything in the world. Thank you Allan!!!
Hands down the best sewing tutorial I’ve watched. I’ve been looking for someone who does sewing tutorials but also has good personality and a high quality camera/good editing skills and someone who fully explains every step!! I found ya :)

Great tutorial! FYI --- I used leftover lightweight cotton quilting fabric and used fusible fleece on one side of the brim. Worked well to make the brim a little stiffer.
I have literally barely used a sewing machine before and this was the first real thing I made....heehee even my husband was impressed. Thank you so much for this video and your fun and great instructions ❤️
My godchild just turned 10. He's going on a youth camping trip, next months. Thanks for this awesome video, we are now sewing bucket hats for him and his brothers, for that trip. And thanks for the opportunity to show him, that sewing isn't only for girls. 👍🏼
I found this video forever ago bc my bf wanted a bucket hat and I'm finally making it for him, just came here to appreciate not only the quality of the video but the little bucket hat cartoon on the patterns, I loved it 🥺
Thanks for sharing!!!! I appreciate your channel. I've been sewing for over 40 years, but i love watching all sewing videos. Especially when they are legit...meaning not sewing a garment in 10 min.
I just did it today! My daughter wanted to buy her friend a Disney Ariel bucket hat for her birthday but we couldn't find one online that we liked. I have considered for a while trying to make one so this was the perfect opportunity. Thank you so much for the video and the pattern! It turned out awesome.
Wow, the quality of this video blew me away!! It such a great tutorial to, your description is so clear and detailed!! I definitely wanna try making this now.
I'm a begginer and was scared to try making this hat as a christmas present but your tutorial was super clear and it turned out amazing!!! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the great how to and kindly offering the free patterns! I just did a closet purge and was thinking I couldn't let go of a couple shirts I love and maybe turning them into a hat would be a great way to let go and hold on at the same time. Ugh. anyway. I measured my head and cut the pattern on the right line, the fabric, followed your directions, and it turned out great!! Perfect even. I happen to have the same machine as you and I appreciated the tricks you pointed out with changing the needle position and foot changes. You're a born teacher Glory
Ok. Love from Tokyo again! just finished this hat, and omg I’m in love! I made some modifications, I did one solid color and I didn’t make it reversible, because I’m using denim and I wanted it to be light for summer: I only did two layers of the brim and one layer of the top and hat sides (?) I attached the brim to the inside hem of the hat sides.. it turned out great! Also, I figured out how to do the pizza notches, thanks for your comment reply! I will be making more. It looks verrrry good and well made. Thank you sensei!!
I really appreciate how even though this has more steps than a regular one sided bucket hat you kept the tutorial straightforward and also sprinkled in some humor. I can't wait to try this tutorial with the sewing machine I got for Christmas! Definitely going to subscribe I love your teaching style

Now I can finally make hats that fit. I shortened the Top band just a little to make it look more proportionate, but now I have endless opportunities. THANK YOU :)
Thank you for this wonderful video! Just made a bucket hat with your free pattern; it turned out great. I used denim from thrift store jeans on one side and one of my husband's old button down shirts for the other side. Not sure if this helps anyone, but I sewed a tiny basting stitch at each "pizza" matchup so I knew exactly how much to stretch the band after I followed Mr. Allen's suggestion about cutting small notches all the way around. His other suggestion (to sew with the band on top) made this part a lot easier.
Mr Glory Allan, great video! The opening title special effect was a nice touch and your tutorial plus video production is top notch, will check out some of your other content. Applause!

If I don't miss my guess, that's a singer 4423. Your tensions are set to balance at four. Cranking the machine up to nine will pull all the knots to the top side exposing them to wear. Knots should hide between the layers because the thread is weakened by being folded back on itself. You may need to adjust your bobbin case tension if your machine needs to be at nine.
