Azizi, the youngest son to April and Oliver the giraffes was caught on camera calling for his mum. April had gone out into the yard already and Azizi couldn't find her, since he was still inside the barn.
He uttered a couple of sharp and long "eh"s, to which April immediately entered the barn again.
So, yes... they use audible communication.
