Very good review. I've to say now using Ford Galaxy for 7th year with more than 340.000 km's it is doing well. Very good car, much space and very good 2.0 diesel engine.
One of the best review channels on YT. THANKS so much for the English presentation. (Because we are too lazy to learn other languages). In my defense I speak 3 languages, none of which are German.
Regarding the central knob on the console/stereo, they are the same on the S-Max and Galaxy but you can upgrade to a premium sound system on both. The one with the single "wheel" in the center is the upgraded version.
Appreciated your review. I went straigt to a Ford dealer and did a comparison for myself. I found out that the difference between S-Max are more in the detail. So in the Galaxy the panoramic sunroof opens up, while in the S-Max it is fixed. The Galaxy you can move the seats in the 3rd back and forth and the S-max it not possible. Even I really enjoyed your Video, one thing I never really get is that you compare Galaxy and Sharan in the same price class. It turned out the Sharan with same options takes 30% more budget!
+Matches Gall thanks for the interesting feedback! The price difference may differ from market to market of course and sometimes indeed, it is really strange that there are huge differences :) For 30 % less, the Galaxy is surely the better pick then!
I chose the S-MAX over the Galaxy primarily because of the improved fuel economy figures (UK 1.5 Ecoboost Petrol Engine), and the fact that there was enough space in the S-MAX
Hi Thomas, thanks for another fantasticly detailed and entertaining review! I drove the S-Max titanium for 7 months, drove the previous Galaxy titanium and now have the Edge Titanium. My favorite is the S-Max: extremely practical, very good looking on the exteriour (depending on the right colours - I would recommend darked paints), very good handling/driving for such a big car and still relative economical. Compared to competitors (Volkswagen/Renault), I would never doubt. I do agree with your feedback: mixed feelings about interiour: some good, some not so, however in daily use, you quickly forget and the use is very good. Sync 3 now makes this a very good car. Personally don't see the benefit of more headroom in the Galaxy, even for a tall person like me (1m89). The impact on the driving experience of the additional height is not worth it for me. Anyway thanks and keep up the good work!!
Hi folks. Can you please tell me how does automatic trans holding up? I am interested in Galaxy,bu a bit sceptic since I have red many negatives,failures... But would love to get auto... Also,is new gen better from previous? Any comments much appreciated. Cheers!
Hi, we have a galaxy with 180hp diesel with awd. I have heard that the automatic transmissions can be quite good if you service them. Its a different version from the one's in the smallers ford that use dryclutches wich are quite problematic. Also the earlier ford models had more problems. Our car has over 260 tkm and it shifts nicely, even though the dealer forgot to put the transmission fluid filter last time it was serviced. Its a really great car, but it has had a couple of problems witch costed a bit, but nothing crazy for such high kilometers. We are still gonna swap it for a audi e-tron, because we don't trust it will stay working and we want a newer electric car.
Any experiences with the Ecoblue 2.0 150hp version? I recently heard that some are having problems passing the emissions test because the filter does not work properly...
Very nice, *BUT* no information on exact structure of suspension - is it struts, is it leaf springs, is it multi-link swingarm? The s-max benefits from multi-link and therefore drives more confident in the corners, how about the Galaxy?
Nice to see that Ford isn't placing the biggest rims unter the cars for the media presentation. Just presentate the cars as they will avarage be on the road. the inside of the doors really looks good from design perspective. Also the seats really look comfy. I have driven with the last generation of the Galaxy. That car is so sporty for its size. Really a joy to drive. The one thing that wonders me with this generation is that it really looks like the leg room in the back is minimal for adults. I expected really more space. Thanks for the great review again.
Hi, an important test or feature for me is to know how far backwards (in reclining position) the second row seats go. I just looked at the Kia Sorrento and Hyundai Santa Fe after watching your videos and discovered that the reclining position on those seats are insufficient. Reclining position is important for keeping tired children comfortable on long journeys- my last car had fold flat seats and second row fully reclined. Though full recline of 180degrees is not necessary, a good recline is. Thanks if you can include this test on all future videos.
Fact is, young kids will fall asleep in the car and it is dangerous for their neck to dangle, for the body to thrust forward over every bump, to slump. Safer I think to be leaned back a bit where this is not an issue. Also good whilst waiting for someone to emerge from an appointment, from paying for petrol, for a sibling after the big game etc.
Nice one. ....I would like to have it with the biggest diesel and 4X4. ...too bad they don't have that option. ........and I don't understand why that is. ....do you?
The Galaxy/Sharan satisfy a slightly different market need to the S-Max/Touran. If you a family of more than 5 it is likely that there will be children of less than 6 feet. A vehicle of the Galaxy/Sharan size is not needed. For 6 or 7 full size adults, the Touran is a non starter. Indeed for 7 full size males, something the size of a Caravelle/ Hyundai i800 is better still. These can take the weight and 7 full size cases easily. The Transporter is after all the same legend as the Sharan/Galaxy and only 4cm wider.
I drove all 3 Diesel. The 150 HP feel lame but acceptable. The fun starts with 180 HP and in my opinion absulotely sufficient. AWD is then the most expensive option. Not sure this really crucial.
Hallo Thomas, thx for another good Review. What i would like to See more on a family car is Space Demonstration probably with Travel bags. In Addition, Performance Runs on Autobahn. May be i am asking for more. However once in a while Family man Wants to Drive faster when alone. Just like me. Hey, the thoughts are just Mine. Vielen Dank für Ihre Verständnis
+Sreeharsha Kaligiri We can just do that travel bag stuff when we are doing the test close to our office - otherwise we cannot carry so much luggage sorry :) But i ll see what i can do
+Cindy R hey, I guess almost all of the have sunroofs these days, indeed its just the difference if its a panoramic one or you can also open it. This will help: ua-cam.com/video/AKSGncAv7i4/v-deo.html
Looks practical! I am staying in Japan at the moment, and for some fieldwork we rented huge Honda people carriers which are not available in the Europe I think. On flaw was that the middle rear seat could crush the knees of the people in the third row.
Alhambra and Sharan are basically the same cars. Galaxy not anymore, they used to build it together, but not this generation. The interior build quality of the Volkswagen group is better, however the Ford vehicles usually have good driving and suspension. I d also check which concise offer you get at the dealer's
For tall people like me (1.96 m), The Galaxy is the better choice of the two, simply because the Galaxy offers notably more head space than the S-max. This is because the front row seats can be lowered more in the Galaxy than in the S-max. In the S-Max I would have to recline the drivers seat to relax mode in order to be able to drive the car normally (as with a lot of cars by the way). ;-)
thank you for this review, Thomas! I understand that your being German makes you think about VW sharan all the time. however, how does Galaxy compare to Espace, 5008 or mazda 5? when I got my galaxy I was hesitating between SantaFe, 2nd hand R-classe and chose galaxy due to its good reviews, safety, consumption and reliability. btw, what's intriguing is that multivan buyers consider the new Ford transit but it's not the case for galaxy/smax who don't usually consider VW competitors but rather find it hard to choose between the two ford options. finally Renault espace marketing targets these buyers, so I'd like to know your opinion about these. Renault Espace or Ford Smax or Ford Galaxy?
+Ikea Uppsala The Galaxy offers more space than the Espace imho, the Espace is now more about design. The Galaxy is more expensive than the S-MAX but again offers more space. If I needed a lot of space for my family, I would go with the Sharan, Alhambra or Galaxy
Love how huge the windows are. Makes it easier for children to look out. Surprised that Ford didn't use SYNC3 for 2016. It's controls are confusing and slow.
Thomas, will you be reviewing the new Cadillac CTS (preferably the CTS-V) soon? I've already seen some german reviews of it and everybody seems to be quite enthusiastic about it. I would like to hear (and see ;)) your opinion.
Ford or VW, depends upon which brand you prefer. Call me old fashioned but I’d go for the one which hasn’t tried to poison the world and doesn’t gas monkeys to death.
big dash because of the shape of the car. if you shrink the dash you need to move the doors. if you move the doors you have to redesign the entire car. most cars these days have large dashes
It's the deepness of the dash that is the offence here. The rake of the front windscreen and the angle of the top surface of that massive dash creates this condition. Plain and simple, this is just poor design.
Very good review. I've to say now using Ford Galaxy for 7th year with more than 340.000 km's it is doing well. Very good car, much space and very good 2.0 diesel engine.

We just got a Ford Galaxy 2016 Titanium today 185hp it's beautiful we had a Renault grand scenic 2007 before I prefer the galaxy!
Remapped it and got 240bhp its so fast now. Omg u should see the faces of people u beat off the lights lol lol so much fun to drive.
To be fair The Galaxy is priced almost twice than the Scenic lol
We bought a Galaxy A Titanium in Shadow black, Yes it looks like a hearse but its the most comfortable and quiet ride ever.. Love it.
Lmao have the black as well Ans thought I was the only one that thought it looked like a hearse

GALAXY GALAXY GALAXY!!!! We have the titanium model in the new grey metallic and we love it!!
:)
how is that ford galaxy today
dont go trough a auto carwash not great for paint and they dont wash car great find a good car wash that uses sponge hand wash is always better
@charlie cheeseface do you like the galaxy
@charlie cheeseface I'm looking to buy a ford galaxy titanium x but I'm living in south of Ireland so it's hard to find one
We had both, the galaxy and the s-max and were realy happy with them
I chose the S-MAX over the Galaxy primarily because of the improved fuel economy figures (UK 1.5 Ecoboost Petrol Engine), and the fact that there was enough space in the S-MAX

Will a childs seat fit on the backseat of the S-max? And will 3 childs seats fit easily on the second row in the S-max?
thank you, very good review
Thank you so much! Please recommend / share our channel and our videos 🙏

Great review, nice and unhurried, many thanks!
+David Viner Many thanks for watching :)
not sure whether anyone answers your questions. but since you're asking: I like the exterior of the S-max.
Nice relaxing review to watch
welcome!
Which 2.0L model is the cheapest out of the 2?

+skycrap Thanks! Leg room was very good imho, especially in the Galaxy - thats the advantage towards the S-Max

+Cindy R you mean putting the rear of the 2nd row seats way backwards so kiddies can sleep?
yes
+Cindy R ok i ll check that next time. Isnt it dangerous by the way to put them that far back? As the seatbelt doesnt function that well then?
Fact is, young kids will fall asleep in the car and it is dangerous for their neck to dangle, for the body to thrust forward over every bump, to slump. nice car and great review thanks

I like the model before this one more but nice review!

Seat Alhambra / VW Sharan and Ford Galaxy actually have almost the same length

Excuse my auto correct error....... 'same length' not 'same legend' ouch! Why does it do that!
Is it too loud at highway speeds? 130ish kmph?
No Not much difference to superb, passat
Good video. Helpful..
can you do a video like this with the Citroen c4 Picasso and the Citroen grand c4 Picasso??
Best review
Very good review. Thanks for uploading.
Ciao, Thomas.
The Galaxy is more functional however it looks too much like a funeral vehicle!
