    can you tell us the basic concept of this test while we are applying compression load to find tensile strength please?

      @I know Cause I'm BatMan. exactly this happens due to poisson effect.

      We are applying compression in the vertical direction but the cylinder will undergo tension along the length.

    Hi matt Oreilly,
    What is the rate of loading of split tensile test...?

    • @oe3lab
      @oe3lab Рік тому

      100 to 200 psi/min [0.7 to 1.4 MPa/min]

    can i test the compressive machine? what type of instrument need the test please

    According to ASTM you are supposed to average two measurements of length.

    Could you tell me your specimen height and dia. As far as i know i heard the dia probably 6 inch but i didn't know the height so tell me ?

    • @Vizzini13906
      @Vizzini13906 4 роки тому

      12 inch, most likely for a 2:1 ratio

    I have done this test after treating the concrete with different conditions to see which treatment improves the concrete.

    the wood fringe ought be longer or equal to the cylinder.

      +Rodrigo Adolfo You are correct (and I do state as such in the video); when I made this video, I was a bit pressed for time and made do with what I had. One of these days, I'll go back and rerecord it and introduce a new series of mistakes :) .

    Can we do the split test using 4x8 cylinder???

    • @MurphysColesLaw
      @MurphysColesLaw  8 років тому

      Yes, unless your aggregate size is larger than allowed for a 4x8.

      cylinder size should be 3 times the aggregate size

    what is the practical use of this test?

    • @Binybini
      @Binybini 9 років тому

      ***** practically there is no such type of loading in the real environment. for example if you take compression and flexural strength testing for concrete, you can find the type of loading in the actual structure. so that you can use the result for decision purpose. to me the test is neither tension nor compression. to assume it is tension test the whole part(body) of the concrete should be in tension force. as you see here the force is applied in a line wise.

    can someone tell me the practical use of this test and significance in real world? how do this differ from pure tension? please answer. need for research. thank you!

    • @angelmusonda7951
      @angelmusonda7951 6 років тому +1

      The test is an indirect way of determining the tensile strength of concrete since direct methods are somewhat difficult.

    could i ask at what rate was the load applied?

    • @MurphysColesLaw
      @MurphysColesLaw  8 років тому +5

      +Baldeep Bhullar The ASTM calls for 100 to 200 psi/min, which works out to a load of about 150-300 lb/second.
