Glad you got through this stage! I know you are a woman of faith too, and for myself I've been looking into whenever there is a physical health problem where there seems to be 'no cure or cause' doctors can find - that the problem is probably spiritual. There are so many references of curses for disobedience being passed down generations in The Bible, and we also know spirits are passed down bloodlines too. So myself I have made sure to repent for different types of possible sins in my bloodline, as well as cut any inherited ties/agreements with spirits by the power of The Holy Spirit and in Jesus name. Vlad Savchuk has great videos on more in depth process of this. I hope this doesn't worry you or anyone else, and am not saying this is the source of colic! just that we know to cross out any possible spiritual causes as well as physical ones. All the best 💛
Hey thank you for your comment :)
I am so glad to meet you! I also agree there could be a spiritual element to it, but I also believe that God has designed babies in this way to cry to communicate a need. Would you be able to give me the verses in reference to colicky babies?
Also I am really against the idea of generational curses I don’t believe them to be a Biblical concept as the Bible says…
“The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.”
I believe everyone is accounted for their own sin and that “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole’” (Gal. 3:13). Therefore in relation to Old Testament curses we are no longer bound by the law.
🤎🤎🤎
I didn’t mean for this to become a back and forth - I sometimes forget not all Christians believe in that 😅
In terms of why I do, it doesn't come down to certain scriptures but more of a principal of duality in the Bible. This constant physical+spiritual link. Even the very concept of being reborn is not physical. “‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4); directing us to think about what we consume in the spirit, not just physical. Keeping “our eyes healthy” in Matthew 6:22. As well as in Matthew 9 when it comes to illnesses, it was either faith, repentance, or deliverance that was needed to rid people of illnesses.
The Bible is a manual for all time so it’s not going to have explicit details of every possible situation and illness. E.g. colic. If it was anything else I probably wouldn’t have commented, but the nature of colic just seemed suspicious to me that’s all (more of a discussion than a factual statement). It is a state of chronic unrest of a newborn, crying for no apparent reason, and for all the studies, scientists have not found anything conclusive. I'm not an atheist so I should assume that if scientists haven't found anything in the physical, then that means they simply just haven’t found it “yet”. I now take this as a cue to really consider the spiritual as I believe The Bible has directed me to.
My reasoning being that states of unrest biblically are not the hand of God (which I thought might have tied in with the soothing that happened when baby was prayed over). It’s mentioned countless times but the ones that come to mind are Deut 28:65 “There the Lord will give you an anxious mind.” (in reference to curses for disobedience) and “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7)
In reference to “The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father…” verse - my understanding was that it refers to our conscience under the eyes of God. In His court we are not guilty on the day of judgement. We will not be charged with someone else’s sin. However, the act has already taken place in the physical. And just like if you were born again after committing a horrific crime, you are washed from the sin in spirit but are not ‘washed’ of the consequences physically, now your family name is still impacted by the crime, maybe your children’s children will continue to suffer financial issues as a result etc…
As for the “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us”, again we have read this differently. That verse is in relation to faith over works. That we are not saved by all the good work and actions we do but by the fact we believe in Jesus, and in that have received the gift of The Holy Spirit and eternal life. ‘The Law’ being all of the old testament details such as circumcision that needed to be carried out for us to be a part of God’s family.
I can see how the word ‘curse’ could be seen as an actual curse. But what curse? There is no particular curse, unlike a curse of bad luck or bad health. It is more in reference to damnation. E.g. That cursed thing! “For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse” because they are doomed to fail - damned. They are never going to be able to pass this test, it is ‘cursed’ . “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do EVERYTHING written in the book of Law” - but a human being could never be that perfect!
So ‘Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law’ - i.e. the DAMNATION of it. He saved us from the path of tiresome existence trying to live out ‘The Law’ which would have been in vain, because we would have never been perfect. - a dead end - you could say - a curse.
The reality is we can see things ‘running down family lines’ that cannot be attributed to genetics, or upbringing environments. E.g. Some have a inexplicable history of car accidents, isolation, no marriages, stillbirths. We see these realities and if we know scripture to be truth and it’s not making sense of our reality then we need to re-examine our understanding of the scripture.
And one last time - I am not saying colic is a generational curse! Just that its symptoms were suspicious to me, and as a believer, I personally would have crossed out any spiritual options as well as physical ones.
