- A Texas station opting not to show the Dallas Cowboys seems weird, right?
Well, during week 9 of the 1984 NFL season, KRIS, the NBC affiliate in Corpus Christi, had the option of showing the battle between the Indianapolis Colts and the Dallas Cowboys, or the battle between the Houston Oilers and the Cincinnati Bengals. Let's just say that they chose very, very poorly

The Colts/Cowboys game would be the last career reception for future Hall of Fame receiver Harold Carmichael. Carmichael, at the start of the 1984 season signed with the Cowboys because they needed depth at the receiver position due to Tony Hill being injured. Carmichael would play in two games for the Cowboys and caught a pass for seven yards for his final reception in their meeting versus the Colts. On November 14, Carmichael was cut from the Cowboys and retired. The reception is shown at the 12:19 mark.
Playing an early afternoon game at Texas Stadium in 1984 is like playing one at Lucas Oil Stadium today. (With the sun and shade that is.)
I mean Corpus Christi is quite a bit closer to Houston than Dallas. It's south of both
So, the Oilers even has allergies to both the goal line and the uprights that even caused problems just spiking the ball.
This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made videos about the following:
1. How Dallas fans missed most of NBC’s telecast of the Colts-Cowboys game in 1976.
2. How the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City had a similar tough choice to make between a Cowboys game and an Oilers game in 1979.
Its always frustrating as hell when Cowboys fans complain about things like the endings of their games being cut out because they switch to another game. They act like its the worst thing ever.
I live like 2 hours south of houston, and our games dont get shown when the cowboys play at the same time, meaning that we dont even get to see our games (legally) even though Houston is closer
This video makes me happy
Over in New York City, WNBC-TV (channel 4) aired the New York Giants played against the Washington Redskins instead of airing the Dallas Cowboys Vs. The Indianapolis Colts, because NBC had the rights to air the New York Giants game.
Based on what you showed at 14:22 I have a new merch idea, a picture of you in your studio and this quote below: “I’ll just put it that way.”
In the intro for the colts/cowboys game, Bob trumpy said that the cowboys "have fans from alaska to alabama"
This is very similar to what happened with the CBC affiliate in Quebec City & the Montreal Canadiens in March 2004. For some context the Canadiens are to the providence of Quebec what the Cowboys are to Texas. This was even more true in Quebec City since their NHL team the Nordiques left for Denver a decade earlier. The CBC affiliate in Quebec City had a choice of showing three games in the early Hockey Night in Canada window Canadiens vs Thrashers or the Maple Leafs taking on Buffalo or if they really wanted to Ottawa taking on the Washington Capitals who were very bad. The Canadiens/Thrashers game was important because Montreal needed to win to have any hope of making the playoffs that season. However the CBC affiliate decided to air the meaningless Ottawa-Washington game because they felt Quebec City had more fans of the Ottawa Senators than the Canadiens even though Ottawa is more than 4 hours away from Quebec City while Montreal is only 2 hours away. The CBC phone lines were absolutely lit up with angry callers wondering why the Canadiens game was not being shown. However unlike this story, the CBC affiliate did not reverse course & in fact doubled down on their pushing of the Senators in a city that had no real connection to them. This resulted in the lowest ratings for Hockey Night in Canada in Quebec City ever because people boycotted watching CBC that night. As for how the two games turned out, the Canadiens beat the Thrashers 4-1 while Ottawa lost in OT to Washington 3-2.
I wonder how much the Oilers' AFC affiliation had to do with KRIS' initial choice. The station eventually chose the more important game even if it was a blowout. As for the Bengals/Oilers game, that was blacked in at least Greater Houston and the Beaumont/Port Arthur DMA (I'm not sure if the Waco/Killeen/Bryan DMA was an Oilers secondary market).
I’m curious if there has ever been an NFL game that was broadcasted but shown in ZERO markets.
You had to make that comparison of the Jets/Steelers right? Since that actually happened in the late 90's in Albany where I was going to school. The Jets game was usually on but instead they showed a Steelers game for some reason. Me and a bunch of guys were furious we couldn't see the game. Don't know what happened but it didn't happen again after that. I definitely don't miss those days of TV.
Dothe cowboys games normally air in Monroe Louisiana ?
I think nowadays most NFL fans including me are very sick and tired of the cowboys being on TV every week
As a Texans fan, it's multiplied by 10 for us.
Will you have a Dick Butkus related video?
For most of the time that the Cardinals were in St. Louis, saying that a loss to the Cardinals was embarrassing is unnecessary.
12:20 Harold Carmichael
An nfl game that ended in a 22-3 score. That's weird
Now corpus Christi aired the oilers game instead of the Dallas cowboys at Noon Because it would have made sense!
Even if this occurred nowadays, I wouldn’t worry because Sunday ticket and RedZone exist
So, was Dallas the only Texas market that showed the Oilers, due to blackout rules?
From everything I could find, it seems like it
@@OfficialJaguarGator9just out of curiosity what game was shown in Dallas?
I think it was Oilers/Bengals @@raidger4
That's why only two games could be shown when the home team was at home, because of the 3 slots that were available one was reserved for the home team and the other two were for the double header games so the network that had the home team and the double header can only show the late game unless the home team is playing in the late window then the early game can only be shown and the network that doesn't have the double header games would only be able to show the game that was not opposite the game played by the home team when they were at home so you could have had a situation where only the early games can be shown or the late games can only be shown and the only possible way around it is if the home team was not blacked out at home because then you could have the double header if the home team was playing at home and that is because the network with the double header games is the network that has the home team playing at home and the blackout was lifted which means you would have the home team as the early game and two games as the late game or two games as the early game and the home team as the late game because the blackout was lifted
Should’ve stuck with the Oilers game. Screw the Cowboys
Cowboys are NOT AMERICAS TEAM
Dallas Cowboys.... Popular, liked, or disliked?
A ratings bonanza because so many people either love them or hate them.
Crying over ONE phucking game that the cowboys weren’t on TV?
I think it would be more of a cause of celebration rather than butt-hurt take…
I wish there were more cowboy-free Sundays.
And now Dallas is no longer America's team, that honor goes to Kansas City
