In the history of film, there have been 5 movies considered to be perfect. This one left them all in the dust.
yes!
“As you wish!”
Peter Falk was delightful as the grandfather…
robin wright, the woman that played Buttercup, says that one day when they had a break from filming, the cast went horseback riding in the countryside. They got caught in freezing rain on the way back and weren't dressed for it. She says that Andre The Giant saw her shivering and he casually rested his enormous hand on her head like a hat. She said that not only did it warm her up and keep her dry surprisingly well, the action made her feel safe and protected. She says he was always sweet like that.
Emma hadn't seen Princess Bride yet? Inconceivable!
She still hasn't seen it... she spent most of the time mugging at the camera, and talked over almost all the best scenes.
@@Mr.Ekshin That's the way this racket works.
The Only Doubles used during the Sword fight between Inigo and Robert's was for the Flips and Acrobatics. They both had trained for months on how to fence just for that scene.
This was known as The Greatest Hollywood Film Never Made.
For 10 years it circulated through the studios until Rob Reiner finally directed it.
It's brilliant!
Quinton tarantino was asked about perfect movies and this one came to mind
I read that Billy Crystal was allowed to adlib a lot of his dialogue during the Miracle Max scene, and that they had do retakes because Westley's mostly dead body kept shaking as Carey Elwes struggled to hold in his laughter.
according to Carey's memoir, he and Rob Reiner had to remove themselves from the set b/c they were laughing so hard! Rob had to yell action and run 🤣
andre the giant, the one who played the giant in the movie, was also in real life a real gentle guy, he was super nice and kind and everybody who ever met him in person loved him
The Princess Bride is an actual book and I heard that in the novel that it explains that Inigo was able to survive the knife in the stomach and continue fighting because he kissed the miracle pill before giving it to Wesley. You do see him kiss it in the movie.
I saw this movie in the theater, when it first came out, in a group of ten friends from my restaurant job. Nine thought it was the most stupid thing they had ever seen. One thought it was the most brilliant. I was the one. I couldn't understand how my friends could be so dense.
It remains one of my favorite movies to this day. Absolutely beautifully crafted and performed along with being absolutely absurd. Thanks for reacting to this Emma.
🤔 Clearly you needed better friends.
This movie released when I was 13, but I only discovered it in the 90s when I was in my 20s. My dad got a kick out of the sword fight between Inigo and Wesley. It's one of those gems of a movie in which every element of the movie is in perfect chemistry with every other element.
I like how at first the boy is annoyed at the story. And by the end he is so invested in the story
I thought this had been made in the early 80s. If it was 87 then it would’ve been just before the giant died. Former WWF champion.
Andre died in 1993......alone, in a Paris hotel room. And he was WWF champion for, like, 5 minutes.....though he was a tag team champion in 89-90.
Andre was champion for years b4 wwf.
@Emma Reacts - Mandy Patinkin [Inigo Montoya] is a superb stage/musical singer in addition to being a wonderful actor…he co-starred in the original production/recording of “Evita”. Andre the Giant, was an extremely famous wrestler…and so lovable in this film. The entire cast is loaded with famous actors…
Directed Rob Reiner…and music by Mark Knopfler [from Dire Straits]
One of the most accomplished casts and production teams ever assembled.
Loved this movie when it first came out and it still pulls at my heart strings all these years later.🙂
The "Impressive Clergyman" was played by Peter Cook, who was hilarious doing British sketch comedy with Dudley Moore (they co-starred in the original version of "Bedazzled").
"He's playing with her."
No, he's testing her. He wants to see if she still loves him.
That old man is Peter Falk who plays a homicide detective investigator in the TV series Columbo.
Such a wonderful movie! The kid's initial reaction to an actual BOOK is fantastic! This is what happens every time you try to introduce an American to literature or U.S. history! The American age of illiteracy is here, as the success of films like Dune Part 2 and Godzilla x Kong demonstrates, ad infinitum. What an age in which to live -- the "Feelies" (right out of Brave New World) have arrived!
18:47 The takes in which they faked Carey Elwes getting hit by the sword didn't seem convincing enough, so Carey suggested they do it for real. In the take they used in the movie, he got knocked out for real.
Vizzini is right about Australians. Have you seen what we charge on exports of iocaine? Cirminal!
Magnificent movie.
Domingo's sword resembles the one used by the first assailant in the opening scene of the movie Highlander.
One of thoseextremely rare PERFECT movies!
an all time favorite! I have quoted it since 1988. My family now also quotes it.
The "Cliffs of Insanity" is a real place, in Ireland
Hi Emma!😊 I am actually watching the "Columbo" detective TV series on bluray right now. The Grandpa telling the story is Peter Falk who starred in that series. Great reactions to this very well made fairytale, Emma!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
Emma looks amazing. She is always beautiful, but she looks exceptionally gorgeous
Thank you so much!😘💃
I love Peter Faulk and this movie.
Emma, another film from around this time that captured the imagination of everyone growing up at this time is the film, "Never Ending Story". I'm glad you loved this movie. It's an awesome one that most of us remember very fondly. Take care and keep smiling!
I wonder how many grandfathers read this book to their grandchildren? If I had the chance, I would do it.
As you wish, Emma! You are in for one of the most wonderful gems of cinema! A film that defies qualification or definition, but is so wonderful and warm. Enjoy your first time with this one!
- The film was based on a novel by William Goldman, who also wrote the screenplay. Goldman had won two Oscars for screenwriting by the time the film was made. The inspiration for the story was very simple. Goldman had two daughters and when they were at an age when they wanted bedtime stories, he asked them what kind of bedtime story did they want. One of his girls wanted a story about a princess, the other wanted a story about a bride. Thus The Princess Bride was born...He published the novel between winning his Oscars, after winning for 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' (starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford) and before winning for 'All the President's Men' (starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman).
- The grandson was the same actor who played The Mole in 'Austin Powers in Goldmember', Fred Savage. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he actually reprised his role in 'The Princess Bride - Home Movie Edition', a series of TikTok style clips put together starring huge stars acting out scenes from the movie in the most amateurish, home movie way for charity. It is hysterically funny and still really moving...especially the ending which had the director of The Princess Bride, Rob Reiner as the grandson and Carl Reiner, Rob's dad and an American comedy legend since the 1950s, playing the grandfather. Carl passed away a few weeks after that scene was shot. The home movie is here, when you need a laugh: ua-cam.com/video/29s1yU3nGkQ/v-deo.html
- If you recognize Westley, it was Cary Elwes. Cary was in Glory as Major Cabot Forbes. He was also in 'Liar, Liar', played Robin Hood in 'Robin Hood, Men In Tights', Jonas in 'Twister', and 'Ella Enchanted'. He wrote a book about the making of The Princess Bride called As You Wish, which I highly recommend if you want some fun behind the scenes stories.
- Buttercup was played by Robin Wright in her first film, but she will also forever be known a Jenny in 'Forrest Gump'.
- Inigo Montoya was played by Mandy Patinkin, an INCREDIBLE singer as well as an actor. He is considered one of the greatest interpreters of the songs of the late Stephen Sondheim, with whom he worked many times and became close friends with. Most notably Mandy originated the role of George in Sondheim's Pulitzer Prize winning musical 'Sunday In the Park With George'. He also won a Tony for playing Che Guevara in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita in the original Broadway production. Mandy has done a lot of TV (Homeland), a few films (Alien Nation, Yentl, Dick Tracy), and major theater productions like the original cast of the musical of The Secret Garden (as Archibald Craven). I believe that he still tours as a singer, singing lots of standards and Sondheim songs. When Inigo stabs Count Rugen for the last time, Mandy was very in the moment. Before filming, Mandy's father had died of cancer...so in killing Count Rugen, Mandy felt like he killed the cancer that took his father.
- Andre the Giant was a gentle giant that the cast and crew of the film all adored. Every cast member has a story about him. Because Andre was a wrestler, Rob Reiner made an audio tape of all of Fezzik's dialogue to help Andre learn his lines, but also how to act the lines. Andre appreciated it, and considered The Princess Bride his proudest achievement. He died in 1993. To this day, whenever a cast member of this film is asked about Andre...they get very wistful and you can tell they miss him. He was 7 feet, 4 inches tall (2.235 meters) and 520 lbs (235.868 kg). He was also considerably weaker than you might think. There are a lot of scenes where they fudged Andre's strength with wires, platforms, or doubles.
- The music for the film was by Mark Knopfler, lead singer and lead guitarist of Dire Straits.
- One of the hardest scenes to film was Miracle Max, as Billy Crystal kept making everyone crack up. The character was mainly Billy just doing his impression of his grandfather, which he had done for years as a stand-up comedian. But Billy would sometimes improvise, and Mandy Patinkin would crack up laughing constantly.
- Count Rugen, the six-fingered man is played by a very interesting man named Christopher Guest. Guest has worked many times with Rob Reiner as both a writer and and actor. They co-wrote Reiner's first film This Is Spinal Tap, and Guest played guitarist Nigel Tuftnell. It was the first in a genre called mockumentaries, comedy films that are like documentaries with highly developed characters and situations, but largely improvised dialogue. Guest is a master at the genre with his films Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show, and A Mighty Wind to his credit as actor-writer-director. He is married to Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once), and has been since the 1980s. He is also a member of the British peerage. He is Christopher Haden-Guest, 5th Baron of Haden-Guest, a hereditary title (which means in England he can be called Lord, and Jamie is Lady Jamie...but they do not do so).
Wow!!!!!!! 🤩 thank you !!!!! 🙏 you are the best!!!)
Really is an amazing movie!! The sword fight scene is like one of the best in movie history!! Tuning in from So. Cal USA 🇺🇸 ❤️🙏🙏 love your channel!!
I was in my 30s when I saw this and actually bought the DVD. (they were a thing back in the day) Great movie and also great reaction as always. Take care and be well. 😄
just watched this movie again tonight and Robin Hood men in tights last night. Carry Elwes is a great actor.
This is a long time family favorite. I'm glad you also enjoyed it. For an old feel good movie try the Jimmy Stewart favorite role in his movie, "Harvey". Good reaction.
Cary Elwes starred in "Robin Hood: Men In Tights".
He was also in the original Saw movie.
The Crush, also
I loved this the first time I saw it, and that feeling only grows, each time.
The big guy is Andre the Giant, a legend of professional wrestling
This remains my 2nd favorite movie of all time. I love Rob Riner and I tear up a little every single time I see Mandy Patinkin say, "I want my father back, you son-of-a-bitch."
Wonderful movie, can't wait to show it to my grandbabies
Great reaction Emma. This is a fun movie. Glad you spent time reacting to it.
Glad you enjoyed it
This is one of my favorite movies! SO charming. 🙂 Thank you, Emma, for sharing this one with us. Oh, and you look Lovely!
Thank you so much!😊
It's Jenny from Forrest Gump! ✌
oh yes!!! I do remember her!!!
Coined catchphrases such as "mostly dead". The "Shrek of 1987".
1. You should listen to Mandy Patinkin (Inigo) sing, he's wonderful!!
2. I have a movie suggestion since you like Robin Wright (Buttercup) and it's a movie I haven't seen reacted to: White Oleander. It's got a mostly female cast, and it's an interesting story. Robin Wright does a fantastic job with her part, too. This was a great reaction to a wonderful movie, keep it up!!
The big man is the "Legendary Andre the Giant.
This is a perfect movie. A wonderful reaction Emma.
Thank you!!!)
Her name is robin Wright this was her first movie she is artimus that trained wonder woman so her character did become something
So fun fact about this movie: during rhe filming if rhe cliffs if insanity scene. They had to do a lot of work because Andre's knees and back were so bad. Actor Wallace Shawn was terrified of heights (even a few inches) he was having trouble filming the scenes. Andre gave him a hug ans said "i will never let anything happen to you". And he hasn't been scared of heights since.
Cary Elwes was in Liar Liar, you probably remember him from that.
beautiful reaction Emma🥰🥰😇😇😇😇
Glad you enjoyed
While filming at night it would get really cold so to keep Robin Wright (Buttercup) warm Andre the giant would put his massive hand on her head like a hat and cover her face with his fingers.
that is the definition of a perfect movie!
Otger than the flips that duel was all Carey and Mandy, they wanted the sceen to be shorter but they just let them have fun as long as possible
13:36 . 😂 . You're correct 👍
Fantastic movie...but I was so confused as a kid. I thought he was Zorro. Mistakes were made..."My name is Inigo Montonya, you killed my Father, prepare to die..." Gets me every time. 😂
Emma just so you know that is Andre The Giant's real voice. If you listen to any interviews with him or any of his pro wrestling promos you'll see for yourself.
The man was the most famous wrestler in the world during the 1970's and early 80's until Hulk Hogan became the big star.
Andre was born with a condition called Acromegaly. Which is a rare condition where the body produces too much growth hormone, causing body tissues and bones to grow more quickly which is why Andre grew so big. Unfortunately he wasn't diagnosed until his mid 20's. It also meant that Andre was not going to have a long life.
Andre turned his size to his advantage by becoming a wrestler and quickly became the biggest wrestling star in his native France. He would then go on to become a huge wrestling star across North America and Japan.
At the time this movie was made Andre's condition was starting to catch up with him and he was in a lot of pain constantly.
However other wrestlers have told how proud Andre was of doing this movie and that he always kept a VHS tape of this movie with him when he was on the road doing wrestling tours. He would often invite other wrestlers who he was friends with into his hotel room to watch this movie with him.
Wow!!!!!! 🤩 thank you for this comment!! ☺️🌹
One of the Great 80s films. . . Sell gets my nephew emotional in watching it.
The actual author of the book is William Goldman the screenwriter of many movies. He wrote this after he asked his two young daughters what they would like him to write a story for them about. One daughter wanted a story about a Princess, the other daughter wanted a story about a Bride, so he wrote "The Princess Bride" for them. BTW, a great William Goldman screenplay you would love is "Bitch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Kathryn Ross...
I can recall seeing this in the theater when I was 10. Loved it ever since.
Emma and this movie pair well, like chocolate and mint.
This movie accomplished a rare feat; it was TOTALLY 'Hollywoodized,' (completely altered from the original book to such an extent that they are almost two separate entities), and became a cult classic in its own right. There are tee-shirts, book bags, journals, etc. out with Fezzik, Wesley, Inigo, Buttercup, and a whole slew of people who will still conjure up Vizzini's 'inconceivable!' as a response to something in a conversation. The original book is absolutely amazing as well, in that it is, at its core, a fairy tale, without subtle comedy, and the campy, comedic overtones of the movie. Usually, 99.999% of the time I will say the book is ALWAYS better than the movie, (as I am an avid reader), but in this one, rare instance, I call it a tie. Both are equally amazing in their divergent treatment of the elements surrounding the same plot.
the movie treatment was written by the book's author, award-winning screenwriter William Goldman.
Great reaction to one of my fav movies :) glad you enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it
This has to be one of the top 5 fantasy movies from the 80's. Jut really funny and charming and heartwarming. And anything with Cary Elwes is pretty amazing.
I've watched this movie so many times. I absolutely adore it. I remember being home sick a lot from school I used to watch it by myself on the big TV on HBO. So humbly good. Very excited to enjoy this with you "Emma💖👏
You might try a really old movie with the same actor who played the grandfather A Pocketful of Miracles
Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya) recently lost his father to cancer during production. In the final fight with Count Rugen (6 Fingers), he actually imagined him as the cancer that took his father. It makes his final words hit that much harder.
As you wish.
😘
10:32 . . . Civilized killing. 😂 . . . Btw, I love the environments in this movie. Looking good "Emma👏
Inconceivable ;-) Jack and Jill ;-))
That's the same actress who played Jenny in Forrest Gump
Emma, you took me by surprise with that AMSR low talking at the end. . .
And then there's all the hugging and kissing. . .
Any other subscribers out there developing a crush on Emma?
😉🌹🌹🌹☺️
Continuing with Pixar movies, “The Incredibles” is a very good movie.
One of the best superhero movies ever made, honestly.
"Six fingersssss maaaan " Awesome.
So glad you watched and shared with us, Emma! Truly a masterpiece!
I give my word as a Spaniard. I've known too many Spaniards.
Watch the wrestlemania three match between André, the giant and Hoke Hogan
Fantastic romantic/ drama/ comedy movie. Is recommend it to anyone (with a heart, soul, empathy, a hopeless romantic,... Should I go on?... Just a great movie. Thank you. Your reaction made my day.
Inconceivable!😂
I Love The Princess Bride
A true classic! Glad you enjoyed it. But wow, was that disjointed. The copyright filter algorithms must have been particularly problematic this time.
Good afternoon my friend Emma hope you're having a fantastic day
Thank you! You too!
Emma Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
Thank you!! 😁 🌹😘
In the book Wesley was described wearing blue jeans, and that blue jeans were around a lot longer than most people think. Hilarious! Butttercup thought Wesley was really dumb at first, and would picturing him saying duh when he was going to speak.
The king didn't here one word Butter Cup said he just cared she kissed him
I love that big guy too, he was a pro wrestler, André the Giant. He was more than 2 meters high, weighted like 200 kilograms. I watched on TV once, fighting against 5, they won but had great trouble and had to hold him all at once 😅
Nice reaction Emma, this one never seems to get old.😊❤
It's so good!
Romantic and very funny..gorgeous Emma
Hey Emma the big guy his name is Andre the Giant he is a very famous wrestler from the United States and he's from France
if you Google Andre the Giant you can see all his famous wrestling matches and his life story
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
🤗😘
If you want some outstanding behind the scenes information you need to read Cary Elwes book :
As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. It is a short, hysterically funny read.
As you wish pretty lady, I only wish you would be my princess bride.
A perfect reaction. Thank you.
Thank you too!
If you enjoyed this and haven't watched it yet, you should react to Stardust from 2007.
Fright Night
1985
She probably doesn’t know Who Fred Savage is
best movie ever made
Pro tip. The kid would be almost 50 now!😮😮😮
The actor is 47. He continues to act and is also a prolific director, largely for television.
The best movie ever!✌
29:08 😂
