XClan - "Grand Verbalizer, What Time Is It?", Sistah Souljah - "The Hate That Hate Produced", Public Enemy - "Fight The Power", Isis - "Rebel Soul", Paris - "The Devil Made Me Do It"
I saw George Clinton walking down Rockaway Boulevard years ago. I remember exactly what he was wearing, plus the colorful hair he was wearing with his trucker hat on his head.
Professor X was such a nice brother. I loved around the corner from the brownstone he was fixing up in Harlem. we used to have great conversations every time I saw him.
Good job Boogie! Leggo! You have begun your journey to the path of enlightenment via old school hip hop - Next up "Grand Verbalizer What Time is It" - X-Clan.
Then Biggie & Jay Z told us to worship EUROPEAN CULTURE🤦🏽♀️👎🏽 BIGGIE also created LIL KIM & we've had 40 different versions of Lil Kim ever since her inception.💯😒
Boogie, X-Clan was us black peoples power source in 1990, there was no Google back then to learn about ourselves, but Grand Verbalizer taught us. X-Clans song "Weighs Of The Scales" would be playing all over Seaside California in '90, for the crazy bass it had in car stereos, but mostly to keep us blacks head up,and be proud to be the beginning of all civilization.
I was with blackwatch in the late 80's and 90's. "A stick called verb, a black steel nerve". The walking sticks we carried were called verb sticks. I miss those days. It was such a good time to be alive. Definitely listen to heed the words of the brother. It was their first video.
What I also stress to people who attempt to scapegoat gangster rap for criminality is that groups like these were being played by the street element back in these days.
@@phillydisco11 i felt for Boogie trying to listen real fast (forward,backward,90 degrees) to it, he was a good sport as always, and gave X-Clan prop's,even though he might not have understood every phrase they said in that joint.
Yeah young homie. Back in the day everybody had to be different. Different topics, Different styles. Hip hop was a buffet of different talent. What do want to put on your plate!
Hip hop had the hood studying, reading and Afrocentric at one point. Then on tv we had the Cosby show, A Different World, Arsenio Hall, In Living Color etc. Eddie Murphy was making movies like Coming to America. And unfortunately it was still the crack era too. Wild times
Gotta do Paris "Break the Grip of Shame" or "The Devil Made Me Do It", that cassette's liner notes taught me more about Malcolm X, Nat Turner, and the Black Panthers than I ever learned in school
Yo Booggie to give you a better overstanding X-Clan was actually part of a larger movement called the Blackwatch movement so they were indeed a boots on the ground, grassroots movement trying to spark change and spread knowledge Production wise, some conscious artists back then hit you over the head with a wall of sound like Public Enemy....KRS One and BDP hit you with the minimilistic, stripped down, Dancehall inspired beats.......X-Clan clan said we gone make you get our your seat with samples from the 70's that you grew up with while he spit this knowledge to you. Dopeness Yooo check out KRS One's "Why is That"
I’m white and X-Clan was the sh!t. Brother J had a real dope presence. Beats were 🔥. Of course a huge message that was needed. No cursing. Uplifting. Definitely something that was important to hip hop at the time and something that will probably never see the light of day again.
🤨 Did You Notice How The First Guy Spoke Just Like Dr. Umar 🤨 ????? X - Clan Was Basically Pan - African - Teaching Off Some Of The Basic Principles Of Marcus Garvey ✊🏿♥️ 🖤 💚
Such an important hip-hop group. Hip-Hop needs this again. Far too many cartoons at the top of the charts. So… this album is a classic. So many gems on it. Professor X also has a couple great albums… you should definitely check out his song "Close The Crackhouse", which is essentially a posse cut featuring many greats of the era.
Boogie, you gotta put on They Reminisce Over You (TROY) by Pete Rock and CL Smooth. Today’s hip hop can’t touch the hip hop of the 80s & 90s. Lessons were taught. Identities found. It made you learn about yourself and your people. Seriously learning history through hip hop is mind blowing.
X-Clan continued to show the depth of hip-hop, they screamed this one belongs to us as a people, so don't step lightly, we are educating (the beats are parliament, one nation under a grove)
*Brother J* is by far the most underrated emcee of ALL TIME.

VANGLORIOUS!!!! Good one Boogie. This took me back 💯
We use to learn from our music on 80s and 90s. 🇱🇾
The music from that era made you research our place in the world and gave us the pride we've been starved of. Peace.
Then Biggie & Jay Z told us to worship EUROPEAN CULTURE🤦🏽♀️👎🏽 BIGGIE also created LIL KIM & we've had 40 different versions of Lil Kim ever since her inception.💯😒
Them days are far gone...smh
This is brother J from Brooklyn. 🙏 he was a real man that stood on business in this world.

Paris " the devil made me do it" is what he needs to look up haha
X Clan made me go to the LIBRARY and look up what they're talking about ! Needed to understand what was being said !
I STILL bang Paris to this day!@@Based_Main_Character

I mentioned it weeks ago lol. But not sure if he wrote it down on a notepad, or someone else's comment caught his eye.
I have mentioned X CLAN on at least 5-7 of his reviews. Whoever got his attention kudos, I'm just glad he finally went there😂😂

DJ Sugar Shaft tore it up during the break, and the original 'Knee Deep' guitar solo is one of the illest guitar solos in the history of music.💯💯💯
They hijacked all our Positive Music 💯

The reason I loved the Cosby Show was because it was like being at my grandparents' home in Jamaica, Queens.
Gotta do Paris "Break the Grip of Shame" or "The Devil Made Me Do It", that cassette's liner notes taught me more about Malcolm X, Nat Turner, and the Black Panthers than I ever learned in school
Yes, we had so much variety in the 90's. Artist wanted to be creative and speak on all levels.
