I think this channel provides the best analysis and perspective on the USMNT. Very undersubbed, but a niche topic at the moment. @@Kyle-ls7gp The term trap game exists for a reason- it can happen and does but is called that because it is the exception not the rule. Having a very difficult time, underperforming vs. inferior opponents as your default is not true with good teams and points to issues with managing.
@@ricopo3522 OR trap games happen when good teams take another team for granted, if you sleep walk through a game it doesnt matter how well managed u are or how good u are. Plenty of great teams lose to inferior opponents as in Argentina losing to Saudi Arabia

But the rule for our team has been barely scraping by inferior opponents.Teams like Argentina often get away with lackluster effort and win creating the trap. If every game vs good or bad foe requires max effort... if you've rarely cruised to wins vs anybody in 6 years- won one match on the road- how are you going to even talk about trap games? Salud

Why would anyone think the Panama game would be a cake walk? Panama has beaten the US in two of the last three meetings. And the last time was in the US. It's like people can't seem to remember what happened yesterday.
Two totally different teams though.
We lost 1-0 away with a much different team. They barely beat our c team in gold cup. We’re home. Our player pool is far superior than theirs. A win is expected

The last time this group of player played panama in a qualification game in the US we won 5-1
USMNT needs to fight hard- especially early. Panama is going to come out crazy strong. It's either going to be 1-1 or 2-1 US win. If US doesn't win, the Uruguay game will be damned near impossible for them to win. They need this bad to take pressure off of the Uruguay game. Good preview. Pretty complete.

@@lennyjenkins9931 It's not enough to just beat Panama, we have to use them as a doormat and score goals on them, because you can be sure Uruguay isn't stupid enough to take it easy against Bolivia, they will want to secure 1st place as is expected of them. To have any chance to surprise people and steal 1st place (to avoid Colombia who we ain't beating most likely) we have to keep up with Uruguay's upcoming onslaught of Bolivia. For that I believe we need our full team. Don't overestimate our player pool or our "depth," not saying they're all bad or anything(Johnny is proving to be great and should start certain games), except a few, like Shaq Moore...

This would provide service from the back, with a secure double pivot in Cardoso and Adams. McKinnie and Reyna could provide both support and when free creativity and attack. Pulisic would be freer and Balogun will have service. 0 excuses. Better to try this against Panama than Uruguay, but doubt we'll see such Pinache from Berhalter. 👌

This loss is a monument to the mistakes that the isn't has done in studying it's rival, over all it's supposedly weakest. It is not the first time it happen against Trinidad and tobago against Panamá a couple of time before. They only guided themselves by statistic and no context of the game nor the problem that the rivals has in their game in Order to exploit it. If you has follows the Panamanian teams you could have draw into conclusion that even thought Panamá is very offensive and can generate a ton of goals opportunity it level of goal effectivity is very low. It need a lot of shot in order to put one in the back of the net, so bunkering and allowing them to had the initiatives just allow them to make many shots that even thought they effectivity is low with a lot of shot number also increase the opportunity that one or two could enter as it happened in the game. I believe that belt halter committed a mistake at allowing them to control the possesión that only increase the chances of Panamá to have an opportunity to make goals. By pressing the Panamanians would press them to defend an reduce it opportunity to go to the fronts and that would also diminish it number of shots on goals that would by statistic of effectivity diminish their opportunity to make goals...

Unless he gets sick or hurt - I just can't see Turner not starting at the current time. Especially not in such a huge game. Honestly. If there was one player who I feel like is undone but the insistence to play out of the back its Turner. Like, everyone can tell he's not great (understatement) with his feet. But he's average to above average in terms of saves. If there is one thing that GG does that buffaloes me its that. Its the probably understanding that Turner's not great with his feet or XYZ player isn't great here yet he still wants to play that way.
Personally I'm in a weird spot as a fan. Because Gregg's stubboornness is grating when I'm pretty sure he sees what we see but he wants his "system" so he keeps with it. Not the first nor will be the last manager / coach to die on that sword. So I get a change might help. At the same time, I also understand men's soccer in the US has a ... uhm, mostly less than stellar history and this is actually our best or maybe second best run of results over a period of time, basically ever. And the players largely clearly seem to back him. Especially CP. So.. its this weird place for me then because yeah, I think a change might be good. But also... I keep hoping someone smacks him upside his bald head and says don't be such a stubborn a** - cause while I don't mind a change...

Well, the main reasons that Panama won't be a trap game is that they are playing in the US and not at home, and their coach Thomas Christiansen is an even more of a totally unaccomplished mediocrity than Gregg Berhalter - he wasn't the coach that gave Gregg fits during WC qualification.
