I just did this on my '10 IS350 and no, you don't need the ballast to create a seal, I have no idea why he said "correct." There's a gasket that creates the seal (as can be seen in his video). I took my ballasts out completely. Cutting wiring harnesses and leaving them in there is SO ghetto.

Great video. I do have a question. Why can't you just tab on to that original wiring harness ???? Why did u deleted??? This way the entire headlight wouldn't have to be removed. Can u explain please. Thank you
so this step you have to do only if your bypassing the oem ballast but if both of your oem ballast work and you just need to change out the bulb you don't need to remove the bumper or headlights if you try to just tab them out from the big harness some headlights the ground is for more then one light to the power on some are for parking to parking and headlights on the same harness this was is just a lot easier to show and to explain to people so they don't try to cut or pull out any wires that they shouldn't

what if your ballast is bad? I've replaced my HID twice, but this last time, the bulb stopped working so assuming I have a bad ballast. So does the led conversion eliminate the need for the ballast?
I just tried to replace my low beam light bulb on my 2007 ES350. I thought it was halogen. Found out it is HID. I removed the HID bulb and the assembly started to smoke. I shut it off and it stopped smoking. The light bulb is working though. I am scared of a fire starting. i want to convert to LED since large improvements have been made compared to HID. Don't know if I would be able to do this conversion with the smoking.
you have to unplug your poem ballast and that plug is what will power the led conversion kit. factory hid bulbs will smoke if the bulb is not pushed in all the way and usually once it starts to smoke it usually burns or melts the inside of the socket that holds the oem bulb if that's what happened then led conversion would be your best bet
