I was defeated near 4 times, fought with him for near 50min. to win, and a friend of mine said me after that killed him easily using a Skill of Tim, that was useless for almost the entire game... Man...
Hi Erick, did you master the blindside technique in Star Ocean IV? The game is extremely easy(and fun) once you have mastered it. You should give it another try.
ah xenogear do you mean the sewer.......... XD Growlanser is awesome game. I do collect its sister series too a langrisser which is more obscured then growlanser and never brought to west beside its 1st title as Der langrisser or warsong if i remmember it right. (please ignore the 3DS langrisser XD) And yeah got a love hate relation with a single roll RNG mechanic of older FE too but it still fun
fun fact: if you use gameshark and input the code for inifnity combo or something, the gears can do crazy artes which a character can, but and only but, you can't heal in this mode
I think we have all had that one game that beat the snot out of us, but that we were determined to beat. We feel your pain Erick. The video was very fun. There was something that struck me as odd about this video. So many of his games are shrink-wrapped! I wonder why that might be? Is he a hardcore collector?
I love your choices and your SINCERITY.i have often referred to your videos to decide if I want to play a game, because you and I already agree a lot of the time. Also very Hilarious.
Erick honestly i think the hardest jrpg game i have played just might be Vagrant story for the Ps1 that game is stupid hard!! i love your videos btw great work man keep it up!
Man, I loved Growlanser IV so much (like all of the games, so underrated and underplayed) but I almost threw my PSP across the room *so many times* while playing that. Great game, but brutal as hell!
Yes! The EXACT same thing happened to me with sorceress Adel! I first reached that fight with my party at level 80+ with terrible junctions, and that fight was IMPOSSIBLE due to the level syncing! I had to restart from disc 1 and completely rethink how stat progression worked in that game lol I've personally never found any of the Grandia games difficult because I grind like a man possessed in those games, so I can only imagine what those bosses were like for underleveled parties lol The same with the Star Ocean games lol I 100% agree about Rogue Galaxy and Xenogears! Every upgrade in Rogue Galaxy felt like you were just getting brought up to the same level as the enemies, and never any stronger lol And fuel management in Xenogears was ATROCIOUS! I actually leveled up CHUCHU, just so I could have a reliable party member in each Gear battle in the final dungeon! I will never beat Xenogears again, but man is it amazing lol Odin's Sphere... You hit me where it hurts... I've never finished that game because of how many times I've been utterly annihilated by the bosses... Hah... Awesome list, man! You're doing great!
YOOOO i thought i was trippin when i played SMT: Devil Survivor in NDS (not the overclock one). It was ridiculously so hard, that I didnt finish it. Man call me a pussy or whateva, I play video games to unwind smh
My only issue in Rogue Galaxy was the last boss battle where each of the characters are needed to be used. Needed to upgrade characters that I dnt actually use like Zegram and steve
So what's the final verdict on Rogue Galaxy?? I was just going to start it for the first time actually today but I have a TON of games that I need to play yet! Is it worth playing in front of a bunch of other jrpgs and games of all kinds or is it more of a pushback?? Thanks!!
The final battle of Rogue Galaxy was SO frustrating! The final boss, you have to get through a 1 or 2 hour dungeon before you can even fight him, and then he is so hard, you die very easily if you don't do everything exactly right! You have to time everything so precisely. I attempted the final boss battle 3 times, and the 3rd time I decided if I didn't win it, I was going to quit and never finish (which was a big deal for me at the time). Each attempt was about a 4 hour investment, except for the 3rd time which was longer. I bought up tons of items. I spend about 2 hours crawling through the dungeon as carefully as I could. Then I got to the final battle and I figured out a way to win! I don't remember exactly what I did, but I think I ended up ducking for the entire battle and doing a measly regular attack after so many swings from the boss. It took me HOURS to beat the final boss that way, but I either wasn't skilled enough to beat him otherwise, or I didn't know the trick to do it. I haven't played that game in oh, 10 or 12 years, and I STILL remember that damn fight.
In Xenogears, Dungeons like the in the cave, sewer and babel tower are frustating, but somehow I managed to beat it without a guide. But man, it's damn near impossible to beat the last dungeon without a guide.
Worst for me was Dark Genie from Dark Chronicle. I guess I could have levelled up to beat him but I couldn't be arsed as I was at the end of the game. Anyway, it must have taken me like 20 times to beat him but such a good game though.
Dark Genie is optional in Chronicle though. I just didn't care enough, I stopped playing after beating chapter 7. However, I DARE YOU to beat him in the original, Dark Cloud. He's a freaking nightmare.
08:40 sometimes you have to learn the hard way to use multiple save files instead of one. I always do this in case I can't go back or there is a game breaking bug or softlock. But I also remember that saving your game took valuable space from your Memory Card. There were only 15 blocks back then. God thanks saving is nowadays not an issue anymore.
It's funny you say that about Xenogears. I seems like any time I had to battle in the gears, I really didn't know what I was doing, but somehow managed to beat things on the first try. And I couldn't even get past the Materia Keeper in FFVII...lol. I have never played the 2nd disc of Xenogears, mainly because it's been so long since I played that I forgot where I was in the story, what I am supposed to be doing and really again...how to fight in the mechs. I would love to beat it one day though...maybe a walkthrough would bring me up to speed on those things?
On the Soldiers battle on Star Ocean I beat on third try but that Boss bug in the caves that has the 3 bug helpers that heal the boss bug and regenerate if you kill all 3 of the healer bugs made me rage quit so many times.
star ocean the last hope was mine too, but mine was a boss battle with the crab underground. I missed the blindside lesson and couldn't beat it. I leveled up 30 levels and still nothing. I gave up and researched learned how too and beat him in under a minute. I feel ya bro.
Lol man I loved this vid!!!!! I'm doin this hate/love thing on Ultimate Alliance 3 atm....jeez died 5 times but leveling up all the same, gonna win soon!!!!!!
Xenoblade Chronicles - Disciple Lorithia. I got to this boss 70 hours into the game and it was so hard it made me rage quit. I did not have the proper gems, art books, or level to beat her. 6 months later I started a new file and made it back to the boss and destroyed her within 5 minutes. About 5-7 hours after this boss I beat the game.
Rogue galaxy the twin tower would be my pick.. Not only it's twice bigger than normal dungeon it's also confusing af since all the corridor looks the same and the enemy is tough as nail. Also I'm probably too busy trying to catch the darth vader bug
This is fantastic. Adel did the same thing to me. I got too reliant on GFs and never learned the junction system on my first playthrough. Adel flipped the GF strategy on its head and I had to restart.
Are you familiar with PlayStation Access? One of the team members, Rob, said he blundered his way Ultimecia without learning how to junction properly. He couldn't beat her GF and had to restart the entire game.
A JRPG that made me rage quit but I beat was Drakengard 3. The final boss was so annoying that I quit for a while before starting the game over from the beginning. This time, I managed to beat the boss and win the game.
Man, the exact same thing happened to me in FF VIII. I love that game, but that was so annoying. Glad I had a previous save from Disc 3 so I didn't have to totally restart the game :-) Did you ever play Resonance of Fate by any chance? I rage quit that during the first fight lol! (I did beat it eventually)
All you have to do is junction 100 of any magic to a character like Squall or Zell's Atk stat and spam limit breaks. The game becomes super easy once you do that.
I have only two major issues with Rogue Galaxy. The first is the nasty difficulty spike in the prison, If you're under level 16 you can't even grind, you're permafucked and you have to load your game, return to the jungle planet and grind... oh, you saved already? Damn, tough luck, I guess you must restart the game. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT leave the jungle planet before you hit level 16, at all costs! The other one is the boss battle in the mines, its in two parts, and the solo part is very annoying and hard, but just like Nightburn, every time you die you must do the other part again. But at least you can grind. Now, I do have an emulator, and what I like to do is put the physical copy in my PC, that way it's considered legal. However, Rogue Galaxy is dual layered so you can't emulate it! You need to tough it out and play it on the real console, or else you'll realize you've wasted 20 hours of your life on a game you can't finish.
I still have never finished Xenogears; it pissed me off that all the leveling, skill grinding, and gearing up I did was ultimately meaningless because the final part in the game is pure mech battles. So as long as your gears are maxed out and you have enough healing stuff it’s fine. So why didn’t I beat it? Because I felt like the game had wasted my time powering up my toons when it didn’t even matter. I don’t tolerate games that don’t respect my time.
I rage quit ff8 in the middle of disc 2. The most important thing in an RPG to me is the story and it was just so nonsensical that the natural slow pace was not even worth the next cutscene to me.
I only played about half of the games mentioned here, I don’t remember them being that tough, definitely not rage-quitting worth it. Except for Thracia, that one is an accomplishment.
Honestly I was expecting you to talk about the boss rush that's in between the 1st and 2nd phase of Star Ocean 4's final boss. Who in Tri-Ace thought that was a good idea?! That final boss can eat my ass
I rage quit on Rogue Galaxy on the final boss sequence. Doing 10 fights in a row without being able to save only to die on the last form.... It took me about 10 years to revisit it (bought it on ps4) and beat it
I've not heard you talk about Vanguard Bandits. Probably the only game that made me start the game all over again just to end up in that same impossible battle. I don't know. Maybe I missed something. I was young... and I rage quit. But was such a cool tactical rpg and was what got me into tactics games.
Ok, ragequit is a thing for me too My first ragequit was at Mario and Luigi Dream Team when I was yonger lol That koopa boss trio and Antasma made me close the game and after 1/2 days go back to it, train and end it. Nope didn't completed the Boss ring so no Antasma X
Nice to see some love (well, hate-love) for Star Ocean 4, even more to acknowledge that fucking Phantom gauntlet. I haven't played the other installments but I love that game a lot. I got so stuck on that fight as a kid that I actually sold the game and only rebought it years later. Then I got stuck on Armaros Manifest 😂
I never find Ff 8 and Star Ocean series hard. They are way too easy compare to old Shin Megami Tensei games. Anyway, nice vid! Felt your rage and frustration for a few minutes.
devil survivor is at mild-hard level imo... after you learn dance move (i think first one at 20ish wendigo battle-ice dance), the game is pushover because these move make magic user very-very broken.
My top 3 hardest jrpgs that I've beaten. Final fantasy tactics(MAKE MULTIPLE SAVES!!) Nocturne(Great map design, terrible encounter rate.) Persona 3(I ignorantly chose normal like a dumbass.)
I rage quit #4. I realized that it was nothing like Muramasa. The grind, the bosses, the backtracking....it was too much. So, I quit. Then, Hurricane Sandy happened and I was stuck at home. Guess how I spent it? Finishing #4 and enjoying the intertwined story. A masterpiece indeed
I did, but never rage quit on it since I knew from the very beginning that it was a bad port from Japan and the localization team screwed up the difficulty for the NA version.
Why? Grinding in rpg is just part of the experience and something. Plus understanding how systems work together in rpgs. For rouge galaxy it about lvl up your weps and using alchemy toad dude thing to combine to make a better wep. Now for the rng argument I agree.
Rogue Galaxy remind me of another couple of games i played some years ago, Dragon Warrior VII & Dragon Quest VIII, dear God! every new area was a difficulty jump!, all you can do is level up until you can kill the firsts new monsters of each area/town/dungeon with relative easy then you can venture to exploring the map/dungeon. on both of these games my saves are in the 170 hrs mark of playing and much of that time was for the sole purpose of leveling up.
yea DQVIII had a shitload of grinding I remember you gotta level up like 5 times before that first cave dungeon and leveling up in that game takes forever unless you find metal slimes
I know that I'm late to the party on this one but I also rage quit Odin Sphere. I couldn't understand the battle mechanics and that damn dragon kept killing me over and over again. I was enjoying the story and the colorful representation, but that dragon made me so mad, I put the game down and I haven't played it for about 8 years
Devil survivor is sooooooooooooo nice! You gotta consider you cheat death several times during the playthrough, so it's acceptable, might even say it's expected you will die every day, it's natural you gotta fight hard to change the future
Erick Landon, I know you probably hated the game but years has passed and errors fixed. The game has now gotten a full English translation: www.romhacking.net/translations/4653/ (Thracia 776)
Agarest Generations of War. It took me 5 attempts to get past the second generation. Not because it's hard, but because Ladius is such a dull, unlikable character. Once you get past that, it's fairly good
I feel you brother. I too know what it's like to triumph over hard ass games. I play every genre known to man and I have taken down some truly hard games in my life. Cursing, screaming, pissed off but damnit I beat the shit out of them and the feeling of accomplishment is out of this world. I absolutely hated Final Fantasy VIII...oh do I hate that game. I beat it but it was the most painful slog I have ever attempted. I thought Star Ocean was easy, FFVIII was just awful. From the enemies that level with you, anti-grinding, paychecks, and that's just for openers. Xenogears was a very hard game at the beginning. The first boss battle was such a bitch but after that it was okay. I almost rage quit that game for life but once I passed it then I grinded like crazy. Once I grinded like crazy the game was relatively well...normal. I recently beat Devil Survivor 6 months ago for the first time and man is it freaking hard.
Odin's sphere? Good game i had fun playing all characters but personally i like more Muramasa Rebirth (with dcl ofc) or Dragons Crown (all characters max lvl yeach). No idea why its on this list.

No, but somehow on my second playthough, those phantom soldiers battles were a walk in the park; I guess I got better or something.
Xenogear is my second favorite jrpg on the ps1 but I understand your rage towards Star ocean last hope
ah xenogear do you mean the sewer.......... XD
Growlanser is awesome game. I do collect its sister series too a langrisser which is more obscured then growlanser and never brought to west beside its 1st title as Der langrisser or warsong if i remmember it right. (please ignore the 3DS langrisser XD)
And yeah got a love hate relation with a single roll RNG mechanic of older FE too but it still fun
fun fact: if you use gameshark and input the code for inifnity combo or something, the gears can do crazy artes which a character can, but and only but, you can't heal in this mode
So I after I finish Fate Extra I have to play Growlancer for the PSP.
A lot of Rage Quit coming..
"Sweeping the floor" lol that's great!
Fantastic video! 😀
Now I want "F.E. : Thracia 776"!!
Hahaha, you must be a masochist, hahaha...
Yeah... like me =(
Erick honestly i think the hardest jrpg game i have played just might be Vagrant story for the Ps1 that game is stupid hard!! i love your videos btw great work man keep it up!
Thank you and yes, Vagrant is outrageously hard.
Love this game, then boom, I want to kick a puppy, and I love puppies.
I had to restart from disc 1 and completely rethink how stat progression worked in that game lol
I've personally never found any of the Grandia games difficult because I grind like a man possessed in those games, so I can only imagine what those bosses were like for underleveled parties lol
The same with the Star Ocean games lol
I 100% agree about Rogue Galaxy and Xenogears!
Every upgrade in Rogue Galaxy felt like you were just getting brought up to the same level as the enemies, and never any stronger lol
And fuel management in Xenogears was ATROCIOUS!
I actually leveled up CHUCHU, just so I could have a reliable party member in each Gear battle in the final dungeon!
I will never beat Xenogears again, but man is it amazing lol
Odin's Sphere... You hit me where it hurts... I've never finished that game because of how many times I've been utterly annihilated by the bosses... Hah...
Awesome list, man!
You're doing great!
Thank you.
But man, it's damn near impossible to beat the last dungeon without a guide.
i cant tell if his dirty talk is arousing or adorable...
devil survivor made me scream alll the time....
Adam Clark dark genie in dark chronicle/dark cloud 2 is entirely optional though
FFXII warns you when u cant get out of a place and suggest u to save another file. Really useful.
I would love to beat it one day though...maybe a walkthrough would bring me up to speed on those things?
srpgs in general tend to be un fair for no real reason. it's one of many reasons i don't play them.
Xenogears is my favorite of all time though.
"Now get the hell out of my life". hahahahaha
Thracia 776, you gonna reach a point where you'd say: fuck it, I'm gonna use save stat.
Do you have a list of rpgs that you have beaten?
Lol man I loved this vid!!!!! I'm doin this hate/love thing on Ultimate Alliance 3 atm....jeez died 5 times but leveling up all the same, gonna win soon!!!!!!
Also, I agree with you on the Star Ocean and Grandia 3 examples. Those bosses pissed me off.
You are the best!! Me and you would be real homies!!!
Bless Kaga
you could rename the video to: “10 steps to getting nuts” lol
Xenoblade Chronicles - Disciple Lorithia. I got to this boss 70 hours into the game and it was so hard it made me rage quit. I did not have the proper gems, art books, or level to beat her. 6 months later I started a new file and made it back to the boss and destroyed her within 5 minutes. About 5-7 hours after this boss I beat the game.
what the background music?
I just got past the Cave in Xenogears and need a quick break LOL
A JRPG that made me rage quit but I beat was Drakengard 3. The final boss was so annoying that I quit for a while before starting the game over from the beginning. This time, I managed to beat the boss and win the game.
Man, the exact same thing happened to me in FF VIII. I love that game, but that was so annoying. Glad I had a previous save from Disc 3 so I didn't have to totally restart the game :-)
Did you ever play Resonance of Fate by any chance? I rage quit that during the first fight lol! (I did beat it eventually)
Resonance of Fate? Hehehe, watch my other rage quit video ;)
Me too!!! i tough i was de only one who hate Resonance of Fate
OMG, I HATE THE FUCKING PRISON IN THAT GAME!!!
don't know about you but i have no hard time with this game though the game is cool
I played this game almost till the end(was a bugged pirate copy), and really don't remember it was so hard, i will play again the ps4 version!
Erick Landon RPG I spent hours weapon grinding in the prison
The Electric Sword makes the prison easy, you also have a electric spell that can charge your sword with electric energy. USE IT
I still have never finished Xenogears; it pissed me off that all the leveling, skill grinding, and gearing up I did was ultimately meaningless because the final part in the game is pure mech battles. So as long as your gears are maxed out and you have enough healing stuff it’s fine.
So why didn’t I beat it? Because I felt like the game had wasted my time powering up my toons when it didn’t even matter. I don’t tolerate games that don’t respect my time.
I think is better than games that you go till the end without been defated once, you get bored without a challenge!
I rage quit ff8 in the middle of disc 2. The most important thing in an RPG to me is the story and it was just so nonsensical that the natural slow pace was not even worth the next cutscene to me.
Yeah and the fact the gameplay is dreadful pulls it down even more
I only played about half of the games mentioned here, I don’t remember them being that tough, definitely not rage-quitting worth it. Except for Thracia, that one is an accomplishment.
Honestly I was expecting you to talk about the boss rush that's in between the 1st and 2nd phase of Star Ocean 4's final boss. Who in Tri-Ace thought that was a good idea?! That final boss can eat my ass
Yeah, I really didn't like the fact that you had to fight all of the bosses you beat in SO4 before you got to the final boss.
You don't have to fight them all if you know the path to take. I think I hugged the right side and only fought 2 bosses.
LMAO i KNEW you would say the soldiers when you brought up SO4!! That fucking fight made me ragequit as a kid for a month.
I leveled up for a bit and beat the crap outta them, finally
I rage quit on Rogue Galaxy on the final boss sequence. Doing 10 fights in a row without being able to save only to die on the last form.... It took me about 10 years to revisit it (bought it on ps4) and beat it
lmaooo! yeh I layed most of those game too, those are crazy! but I loved and beated!
I've not heard you talk about Vanguard Bandits. Probably the only game that made me start the game all over again just to end up in that same impossible battle. I don't know. Maybe I missed something. I was young... and I rage quit. But was such a cool tactical rpg and was what got me into tactics games.
Top 10 Hidden JRPG Gems PS1 -Part 2-
Top 10 Most Unknown PS1 JRPGs
You're welcome :)
hahaha man i love these rage quit episodes
Ok, ragequit is a thing for me too
My first ragequit was at Mario and Luigi Dream Team when I was yonger lol
That koopa boss trio and Antasma made me close the game and after 1/2 days go back to it, train and end it.
I also grinded tons on devil survivor and wasn't enough as u mentioned so I rage quitted on it
devil survivor is at mild-hard level imo... after you learn dance move (i think first one at 20ish wendigo battle-ice dance), the game is pushover because these move make magic user very-very broken.
Xenogears PTSD Babel Tower Very Evil Platforming.... RIP Controller
My top 3 hardest jrpgs that I've beaten.
Final fantasy tactics(MAKE MULTIPLE SAVES!!)
Nocturne(Great map design, terrible encounter rate.)
Persona 3(I ignorantly chose normal like a dumbass.)
Those towers in Rogue Galaxy.......OMFG
Eric did you ever played 7th saga on snes? Haha this one is legendary in raging department.
Arc rise fantasia is my version of hard made me rage quit but I still beat xD
Once you get past that, it's fairly good
Grandia III is one of my all-time favourite RPG, it's surprising 2 and 3 on the same system. the graphics on 3 can rival lots ps3 games at that time.
Can you list the games name?
Rogue Galaxy is my top 10 all Time vg
Hahahahahahah....! ! ! funny video. as for me, i have never rage quit on a JRPG.
Odin's sphere? Good game i had fun playing all characters but personally i like more Muramasa Rebirth (with dcl ofc) or Dragons Crown (all characters max lvl yeach). No idea why its on this list.
Good to see these games getting some love (hate) i have beat them all and i remember them fondly
