Ah, I know the Xenogears fight you're talking about. Calamity is the name of the mech boss. I actually quit the game for a year before coming back to it after learning that you could upgrade your gears to make the fight easier (although the shop DOESN'T indicate that that particular upgrade will boost your stats).

I love Star Ocean. I even played it on harder settings so I'm kinda forced to gain even higher levels. I love that when a RPG pushes the player to higher level ups. That's why I love RPG. When you level up it feels so great. Some games lately are not that hard RPG anymore. Just soft RPG. lmao

    Mine are:-
Nights of Azure- true ending. Beat it once (lost a bunch of times), replayed when 2 came out and couldn't do it again.
Final Fantasy XIII-2- either the sub-boss that jumps out at you 20 seconds before the final battle (something and Cait Sith- only ever beat that once) or the final bosses)- the final boss is easy once you've worked it out, but it took me 10-12 goes to beat it. I've never come close to losing in another 6 playthroughs, but it was so frustrating the first time through.
Lightning Returns- option boss the lightning dragon (sorry can't remember the name)- if you spend too long healing it just pisses off. Finally beat it (yeah, on easy).
Final Fantasy VII- not rage quitting, but took me 20 years to finish, because I didn't understand the whole levelling up mechanic back in the day.
Drakengard 3- I seriously think the final boss rhythm game spoils the game- needed to synch my 'phone to UA-cam to cheat the ending.
Star Ocean 4 I didn't have a problem with (slightly harder on the PS3 than Xbox360), but it did take me a couple of goes to beat that scenario (and switching backups in); this is one of my favourite games, but I almost rage quit in the 40-45 minute cut scene when I wanted to go to bed!).
Odin Sphere Leithrasir I've only played the PS4 remaster, which has a reputation for being a bit easier than the original.

I love it when a RPG is hard. Because you have more reasons to level up and feel like a god playing the game when you beat their asses. That's why I always take some time to level up. It feels very rewarding :-). And i hate some rpg games that locks your level up in a certain chapter because then it would become "too easy". Let the player themself decide if they want to level up or not. Just leave the level up system if you don't want people leveling up the way want. Just use skilltree. When a chapter is finished you can choose a skill. That's why I stopped playing FFXIII due the level cap. That's no rpg to me. Sold it and never went back.

Lol hillarious! You know you are just making me want to play those games (the ones i haven't played already), just to see how hard they really are, right?!. When you mentioned rogue Galaxy i basically knew it was because of the prison section and that freaking bullet sponge called Rosencaster, i don't know that many people who played it but the few i stumbled on the internet always mentioned getting stuck on it, dude just has too many burst damage types, best advice i can give aside the basically never go directly to the objective marker in RPGs (unless the game has some sort of time mechanic) is to stock up on shops along with weapons, be sure to use Toady often to give the 3 party members in that part the best equipment possible, i don't remember how far you can upgrade the Desert Seeker that early in the game but that weapon can carry jaster thought the whole game basically if you keep upgrading it and be sure to get rid of all mimics along the way using the platform pistol, that weapon is broken on mimics.

LOL! Reminds me when I almost gave up to play Wild Arms 2 in a battle with a ghost boss (can't remeber the name, only that he was character from the beggining of the game, died in a crash ( I think) and was summmoned when we touched a sword craved in the ground). I was defeated near 4 times, fought with him for near 50min. to win, and a friend of mine said me after that killed him easily using a Skill of Tim, that was useless for almost the entire game... Yes! The EXACT same thing happened to me with sorceress Adel!
I first reached that fight with my party at level 80+ with terrible junctions, and that fight was IMPOSSIBLE due to the level syncing!
I had to restart from disc 1 and completely rethink how stat progression worked in that game lol
I've personally never found any of the Grandia games difficult because I grind like a man possessed in those games, so I can only imagine what those bosses were like for underleveled parties lol
The same with the Star Ocean games lol
I 100% agree about Rogue Galaxy and Xenogears!
Every upgrade in Rogue Galaxy felt like you were just getting brought up to the same level as the enemies, and never any stronger lol
And fuel management in Xenogears was ATROCIOUS!
I actually leveled up CHUCHU, just so I could have a reliable party member in each Gear battle in the final dungeon!
I will never beat Xenogears again, but man is it amazing lol
Odin's Sphere... You hit me where it hurts... I've never finished that game because of how many times I've been utterly annihilated by the bosses... Hah...

  • @zemiq1982
    @zemiq1982 5 років тому

The final battle of Rogue Galaxy was SO frustrating! The final boss, you have to get through a 1 or 2 hour dungeon before you can even fight him, and then he is so hard, you die very easily if you don't do everything exactly right! You have to time everything so precisely. I attempted the final boss battle 3 times, and the 3rd time I decided if I didn't win it, I was going to quit and never finish (which was a big deal for me at the time). Each attempt was about a 4 hour investment, except for the 3rd time which was longer.
I bought up tons of items. I spend about 2 hours crawling through the dungeon as carefully as I could. Then I got to the final battle and I figured out a way to win! I don't remember exactly what I did, but I think I ended up ducking for the entire battle and doing a measly regular attack after so many swings from the boss. It took me HOURS to beat the final boss that way, but I either wasn't skilled enough to beat him otherwise, or I didn't know the trick to do it. I haven't played that game in oh, 10 or 12 years, and I STILL remember that damn fight.

A JRPG that made me rage quit but I beat was Drakengard 3. The final boss was so annoying that I quit for a while before starting the game over from the beginning. This time, I managed to beat the boss and win the game.

Man, the exact same thing happened to me in FF VIII. I love that game, but that was so annoying. Glad I had a previous save from Disc 3 so I didn't have to totally restart the game :-)
Did you ever play Resonance of Fate by any chance? I rage quit that during the first fight lol! (I did beat it eventually)

All you have to do is junction 100 of any magic to a character like Squall or Zell's Atk stat and spam limit breaks. The game becomes super easy once you do that.

I have only two major issues with Rogue Galaxy. The first is the nasty difficulty spike in the prison, If you're under level 16 you can't even grind, you're permafucked and you have to load your game, return to the jungle planet and grind... oh, you saved already? Damn, tough luck, I guess you must restart the game. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT leave the jungle planet before you hit level 16, at all costs! The other one is the boss battle in the mines, its in two parts, and the solo part is very annoying and hard, but just like Nightburn, every time you die you must do the other part again. But at least you can grind.
Now, I do have an emulator, and what I like to do is put the physical copy in my PC, that way it's considered legal. However, Rogue Galaxy is dual layered so you can't emulate it! You need to tough it out and play it on the real console, or else you'll realize you've wasted 20 hours of your life on a game you can't finish.

I still have never finished Xenogears; it pissed me off that all the leveling, skill grinding, and gearing up I did was ultimately meaningless because the final part in the game is pure mech battles. So as long as your gears are maxed out and you have enough healing stuff it’s fine.
So why didn’t I beat it? Because I felt like the game had wasted my time powering up my toons when it didn’t even matter. I don’t tolerate games that don’t respect my time.

Why? Grinding in rpg is just part of the experience and something. Plus understanding how systems work together in rpgs. For rouge galaxy it about lvl up your weps and using alchemy toad dude thing to combine to make a better wep. Now for the rng argument I agree.

Rogue Galaxy remind me of another couple of games i played some years ago, Dragon Warrior VII & Dragon Quest VIII, dear God! every new area was a difficulty jump!, all you can do is level up until you can kill the firsts new monsters of each area/town/dungeon with relative easy then you can venture to exploring the map/dungeon. on both of these games my saves are in the 170 hrs mark of playing and much of that time was for the sole purpose of leveling up.

I feel you brother. I too know what it's like to triumph over hard ass games. I play every genre known to man and I have taken down some truly hard games in my life. Cursing, screaming, pissed off but damnit I beat the shit out of them and the feeling of accomplishment is out of this world.
I absolutely hated Final Fantasy VIII...oh do I hate that game. I beat it but it was the most painful slog I have ever attempted. I thought Star Ocean was easy, FFVIII was just awful. From the enemies that level with you, anti-grinding, paychecks, and that's just for openers. Xenogears was a very hard game at the beginning. The first boss battle was such a bitch but after that it was okay. I almost rage quit that game for life but once I passed it then I grinded like crazy. Once I grinded like crazy the game was relatively well...normal. I recently beat Devil Survivor 6 months ago for the first time and man is it freaking hard.
