"the Old Testament, the only testament at that time"... might want to clarify that one. Jesus' blood seals the New Testament, so it was certainly in effect... they didn't have our anachronistic notion of a book BEING the testament... that gets us into New Perspective territory though.
I used the word "testament" intentionally to avoid this kind of misunderstanding. I was referring to a collection of texts, not to a covenant. (And, of course, these were just "the Scriptures" in 50 AD, but I use "Old Testament" because everybody else knows exactly what I am talking about.)
