Hey Aaron! I was your final battle in this video - was awesome to get to play you. Was such a fun game as that team is so cool, it really shows how you can use gravity beyond just clicking hypnosis. This game finally made me realise this isn’t the team for me - it felt too slow and passive, and Goth trap isn’t my style of play. Hoping we’ll match up again sometime. Keep up the great content!
I'd love to see an evolution for Dodrio, giving it the Primeape treatment and give it an evolution that makes it maybe Normal/Fighting, Fighting/Flying. And of course give it some coverage. Close Combat seems to go on every Pokemon now, so give it that. Give it Extremespeed. I think with Fighting coverage and Extremespeed it could be a real menace.
I am a big fan of the breakdowns he does in the beginning of the video, as someone who love competitive pokemon but has never played it. It is awesome to get an inside look on how to play competitive.
Yes! Love this combo so much, Sandy Shocks I think was one of the most underrated paradox mons going into this format, and Espathra is the perfect partner 😁
Clever interaction with the speed stats - enabling Gravity to lock in Hypnosis, but then having Lumina Crash first to strengthen special damage. Glad you're able to compete consistently against a volatile meta game - very impressive!!
The success of this team seems to depend heavily on your ability to really understand who has the momentum at any given time, more so than most. It really seems to fit Aaron's style and his knowledge of what other teams are trying to do having so much experience across a variety of teams. I hope he plays something like this if he does compete at Knoxville or something like that. I think it'd be a great fit, and having Gravity for the accuracy boost... well, I know I'd feel less anxious watching him.
This Team is my worst nightmare. I hate fighting against it and then against you. But still thanks for the game. Now I can look how to counter this strategie more. For the Question of the day: I would buff Squakabilly, giving it more bulk or speed. It's such an interesting Pokémon with the Abilities (Intiminade/Hustle/Guts/Sheer Force) and Attacks (Parting Shot/Final Gambit/U-Turn/Tailwind/Facade/Aerial-Ace). You could use it as an Support or Offense but it isnt good enough, due to it's Stats beeing so horribly low. If they just gave him more Defense or HP he would be a solid Pokémon.
QOTD: Since Fearow only has one normal ability, I would give this thing an Intimidate. Another bird Pokémon I would buff is Swellow and let’s give it Speed Boost. It has Guts which is a better ability, but Speed Boost makes so much sense imo.
So cool to see this Combo. I just used the same Gravity-Strategy, but with a Persian (Fake out + Hypnosis) won all games with the Meme-Team and hat a lot of fun.
what i really think benefits this team too is gravity allowing the extra power on moves with lower accuracy helps make this "cheese" combo more legit. 100% accuracy power whip, thunder, hydropump, blizzard, and heatwave are all so huge ontop of the hypnosis. makes some damage calcs possible when they werent. big example being that blizzard on amoongus and ironhands. freeze dry wouldve killed amoongus and then slept the ironhands with hypnosis. but the blizzard getting both was big.
Loving this team, a lot of people have been running the same consistent teams in ranked and this is definitely a breath of fresh air. So dynamic and so much fun

As for a buff to a bird Pokémon... I'd love to see the Pidgey line getting some love. Maybe Gale Wings plus brave bird or a buff to special attack? Like a special attack gale wings user would be nice. Think Mega Pidgeot but gale wings in essence

Been using this exact team for the past few days to good success, I honestly focused less on Hypnosis as a lead to try and shutdown any setup from the opponent. Going to experiment with Tsareena more for blocking priority instead of assuming Farigiraf is my only choice there
I had made a team like this all on my own! Cool to see top players had the same thoughts. My team uses av tinkaton with feint and goggles ttar as the trick room psy spam answer. The other team members were the same but with items swapped around

I've built an Espathra and Sandy shocks based on these-they are definitely formidable! If the opponent isnt careful they can sweep. They helped me get to that ultra ball tier

I know big parrot keeping is an ethically dubious business but in my country parrots as pets were more or less an accepted tradition for a while so it was no surprise my grandmother had a parrot when I was growing up, and it was like having a very cranky aunt, but we still all loved her. In Pokemon world having a parrot is not ethically dubious so in Squawkabilly I get to live out my dreams of having my own parrot…
QOTD: Noctowl I think could use it the most. It has a bunch of interesting tools - one of the few special attacking early birds, access to moves like Moonblast and Stored Power, pretty solid special bulk, a kind of neat ability in Tinted Lens. It just badly lacks in speed and has a horrendous defense, and its special attack is mediocre unless it somehow finds the time to boost up. An evolution could go a long way for it, and owls are pretty underexplored as Pokemon somehow so there's a lot of design space to work with.
Gravity is such a neat move. If I made a team with this composition I'd have to make room for Maushold. I wouldn't have to run wide lens on it and could add a kings rock, choice band or life orb on it instead 🤣
favourite bird-type pokemon is Tornadus-T. I would buff it by redistributing its stats a bit. Maybe 30 points off its SpA and adding 20 to HP and 10 to Atk. It would benefit both regenerator and U-turn. It would also need a reliable physical flying attack for stab and maybe one or two coverage attacks. U-turn, Brave bird and Knock off feels like a good starting point for a moveset with couple of options for coverage/tech. It is too weak and frail now.

I was wondering if you could speak to the risk/reward assessment when it comes to double protecting turn one to scout out for what your opponents want to do. I’ve seen you do this in a few of your videos now, and even though most of the time it works out for you whenever I’m faced with that option I’m always terrified of signaling that the next turn I know I mostly can’t go for protect again (without risking the double) which lets your opponent know you’re shields down and can capitalize on this. Obviously the risk of them going for the setup moves and such are the main concern, but I was just wondering if you could maybe break this kind of choice down sometime and when certain teams you’re running would and wouldn’t want to use this tactic? Thanks so much for the awesome content!
Having tried flapple on this team, i only started to see succeaa with it once i gave it room service in trick room. It is so strong once you have complete presence, otherwise it dies to easily
I'd like Staraptor to get something It should have been Flying/Fighting from the start imo and maybe a reckless buff? And I know Gale Wings Talonflame was a menace back in the day but with the increased power level I'd like to see it back to it's original state
QOTD: Talonflame, or more specifically Gale Wings. I believe, especially in this metagame, that another priority Tailwind user would diversify the fast speed control you can acquire outside of needing to just slam Prankster Murkrow on your team. There are scenarios where I really want that fire typing and ability to Wisp a high prio target, but the value falls just short because the tailwind, although good, doesn't have full prio. I think it would be safe to give more mons Gale Wings and revert it back to its previous priority tier. Talonflame itself seems to be statistically weak against a lot of the strong picks, so I can't see it warping the format, and the Fre bird is such a classic, they deserve it :)
I'm doing this with chansey and gothitelle. I find sometimes I still miss alor more than I should but gotitlle also has fake tears and chansey can sleep too with sing
Wait is Epitaff the German name for Annihilape? That's amazing, ape is affe in German, this is one of my favorite Pokemon name puns because the beginning ALSO sounds like the word "ape", making the name basically "apeyape", with the word epitaph just being cool to say and referencing the fact that it's a dead mon.
Honchkrow could really use a buff. It's got the moves just an awkward spd/bulk. I think giving it access to prankster like murkrow would be great. Murkrow wouldn't lose it's identity either since it is faster than honchkrow and eviolite, but at least it'd give Honchkrow a shot as a more offensive version with some wiggle room on items
QOTD: I’d buff talonflame move pool/add new moves reasoning talonflame sucks when it comes to fire type moves being that it’s a physical attacker it doesn’t really learn many
QotD: Give Toucannon more bulk. It kinda want to get hit anyways while charging Beak Blast but it has mid bulk. I still don't think it's enough to make it playable if it even make it into the S/V dex, but that evo line deserves better.

Hmm I'd probably bring back that cut farfetch'd evolution from gold and silver (Madamu i think it's called) and make it the antithesis of sirfetch'd. it'd be more bulky\defensive and somewhat femme so again the opposite of sirfetch'd. I think it'd work well and certainly isn't going to unbalance much, it'd be a relatively humble addition
How would you deal with TR with that team? So many Indeedee + Armarouge with Follow Me + TR still around and I've been done for more often than not after that
QOTD: I want Talonflame to be the physical suicide sweeper it was always meant to be! Screw tailwind! Screw will-o-wisp! I remember the days when Talonflame was the most feared physical sweeper around, and I want those days back!
The fact that they made a bird Pokemon and named it after a genre of music but it only naturally learns 1 sound move (Uproar) and 1 TM sound move (Hyper Voice) is a tragedy. I'd buff Squawkabilly so that it's not just Staraptor's mediocre cousin; bring its stats up some across the board, swap it to being a special attacker (we have PLENTY of physically attacking normal/flying birds thanks), and maybe give it the opportunity to learn Boomburst via breeding and/or bring back Aerilate, a great ability that's gone largely unused since we don't have Mega Salamence or Mega Pinsir anymore.
Dodrio needs love and some better abilities. I'd give Dodrio/Magneton/Dugtrio a signature ability to multi hit moves and they all get a Triple Dive type move. Dodrio - Flying Magneton - Electric Dugtrio - Ground Gives Dodrio a potential buff while also staying in the 3 heads theme that gen 1 had for some reason
I think acrobatics is bugged, it’s supposed to be doing base 110 damage after the mon uses it’s booster energy and it doesn’t seem to be. Something to look into
I faced you on ladder I was using a Cetitan time. I had you in TR I should have executed better but I got nervous. I was going to liquidation your Hydreigon but I felt you'd switch to Tsareena, not wasting your tera. So I Icicle crash but you fire tera, I was so tilted after that. Like bro, i was gonna be in top 1k but you gate keep me out of it. But eventually I'll got in. Qotd: Braviary, I know it got a Hisuian form but with Braviary being such a combat forces bird youd think itll be Flying/fighting. I feel it just needed more speed, CC was a good buff though

It did have lighting rod as a ha in gen 5 but was never released. It was changed to static in gen 6

If the competitive team is so worried about Gale Wings being broken then they should just make it that it deactivates at 50% instead of 99%.
17:25 I forget that Gravity makes Heat Wave 100% accurate sometimes too lol. Too much PTSD over Heat Wave misses.

Wait is Epitaff the German name for Annihilape? That's amazing, ape is affe in German, this is one of my favorite Pokemon name puns because the beginning ALSO sounds like the word "ape", making the name basically "apeyape", with the word epitaph just being cool to say and referencing the fact that it's a dead mon.
Honchkrow could really use a buff. It's got the moves just an awkward spd/bulk. I think giving it access to prankster like murkrow would be great. Murkrow wouldn't lose it's identity either since it is faster than honchkrow and eviolite, but at least it'd give Honchkrow a shot as a more offensive version with some wiggle room on items
I'd buff up Swellows attack a bit more (though yes I know it has guts) and give it more coverage
If gravity makes a move like heatwave not miss what about something like fissure?

QotD: Give Toucannon more bulk. It kinda want to get hit anyways while charging Beak Blast but it has mid bulk. I still don't think it's enough to make it playable if it even make it into the S/V dex, but that evo line deserves better.

Hmm I'd probably bring back that cut farfetch'd evolution from gold and silver (Madamu i think it's called) and make it the antithesis of sirfetch'd. it'd be more bulky\defensive and somewhat femme so again the opposite of sirfetch'd. I think it'd work well and certainly isn't going to unbalance much, it'd be a relatively humble addition
QoTD: I really liked Bomberdier coming into this gen and having 3 STABS but to buff it needs quite a bit more stats

QOTD: I want Talonflame to be the physical suicide sweeper it was always meant to be! Screw tailwind! Screw will-o-wisp! I remember the days when Talonflame was the most feared physical sweeper around, and I want those days back!
Currently playing through Scarlet (my main game is Violet). There’s just too many amazing version exclusives in Scarlet that I need to shiny hunt lol.
The fact that they made a bird Pokemon and named it after a genre of music but it only naturally learns 1 sound move (Uproar) and 1 TM sound move (Hyper Voice) is a tragedy. I'd buff Squawkabilly so that it's not just Staraptor's mediocre cousin; bring its stats up some across the board, swap it to being a special attacker (we have PLENTY of physically attacking normal/flying birds thanks), and maybe give it the opportunity to learn Boomburst via breeding and/or bring back Aerilate, a great ability that's gone largely unused since we don't have Mega Salamence or Mega Pinsir anymore.
Buff Squawkabilly because with guts + flame orb + facade and tera normal can almost one shot everyone if given more stats!

Dodrio needs love and some better abilities.
I'd give Dodrio/Magneton/Dugtrio a signature ability to multi hit moves and they all get a Triple Dive type move.
Dodrio - Flying
Magneton - Electric
Dugtrio - Ground
Gives Dodrio a potential buff while also staying in the 3 heads theme that gen 1 had for some reason

Umbreon getting Trick Room as a dark type Inner Focus pokemon would probably skyrocket his viability.
I think acrobatics is bugged, it’s supposed to be doing base 110 damage after the mon uses it’s booster energy and it doesn’t seem to be. Something to look into

Oricorio deserves a buff. It’s ability is so cool but it’s stats are so bad it doesn’t get a lot of use off of it
I faced you on ladder I was using a Cetitan time. I had you in TR I should have executed better but I got nervous. I was going to liquidation your Hydreigon but I felt you'd switch to Tsareena, not wasting your tera. So I Icicle crash but you fire tera, I was so tilted after that. Like bro, i was gonna be in top 1k but you gate keep me out of it. But eventually I'll got in.
Qotd: Braviary, I know it got a Hisuian form but with Braviary being such a combat forces bird youd think itll be Flying/fighting. I feel it just needed more speed, CC was a good buff though
