- Many people have requested, so now I deliver :3 Dragon face angles tutorial! I figured this was already a bit long so I'll do front views in another tutorial. I hope this helps - let me know in the comments which parts you liked and didn't like for it!
Big thanks to Jomadis for the sprites at the end of the video, and my friend Bearcattle for letting me use her character Hearteater in the thumbnail (www.deviantart.com/bearcattle...!

"once you get bored, we can get started" -1:35
Me 50 minutes later- still drawing boxes because i'm not bored yet and still cant draw a box
same
Ikr same. WHEN DID BOXES GET SO HARD?
lol
lmao
oml same I can’t draw a box
The 3/4 view is tricky, because of the angle and lack of irl reference for drawing dragons (hahaha). Recently, though, I’ve taken to studying the Joy Ang covers to see how she draws her heads, and using simple shapes and lines (sphere for head/curves for center of snout/lines or curves for horns) to map out where different parts of the head should go. Perspective guides are also useful!
A well-established artist on Flight Rising has told me to minimize drawing of profile view dragon faces as soon as possible, because I could slip into a “bad habit” of only drawing profile faces. Can’t wait to see how this video might help!
Edit: Personally I find the horns to be hardest to draw; it’s tricky to line them up in a proper/realistic way, especially if they’re straight and long like IceWing horns. I like to use a perspective guide for straight horns. This video was great, thank you!
Referencing Ang is a good idea! Yeah perspective guides are good but not everyone has access to it and they’re super confusing to new artists, so I’d probably only suggest that in a “more advanced” tutorial
I really wish we had some IRL differences for drawing a dragon. Heh, perhaps one day.
my brain: ok so pretend ur drawing the Ender Dragon
me: ok, BOXES TO THE RESCUE!!
YUP HAHAHA
In my opinion that’s very true
Lol I'm here just to draw the ender dragon actually 😂😂😂
haha well I’m that one weird gal who draws Minecraft stuff realistically
When the world needed 3/4 dragon views the most
Bio came to save the day
Haha aww thank you!
Yep!
HALLELUJAH I NEEDED THIS
SAMEEEEEEEEEE
Same bro
We all agree
@@ale1ncAt *all* of us *agree* *:)*
Finally its here YESSSSSSSSSSSSssS
Best tutorials for half realistic and half cartoony
Uh oh.
Tomorrow during class my notes are going to be nothing but boxes.
Edit : Not gonna lie there’s A LOT of stuff I was missing when drawing a dragon. I, as a beginner artist, thought drawing a lazy circle and making a couple lines for the jaw was it. Now I realize there’s all this complicated anatomy stuff. It doesn’t make me any less motivated though - it just shows how much I have to learn and how much better it will look when I learn that. All thanks to you, Bio!
YESSSS, IT'S HERE
I've been struggling with this since forever, thanks a lot for this tutorial!
Suggestion:
A tutorial focussed on shading
ooo i've already got my own way to draw dragons in 3/4 but i love seeing other peoples methods!!
YAY
I was just talking to my sister about how hard 3/4 face angles are to draw 😭😂
Yesss thank you for this!
Yus
I NEEDED THIS TUTORIAL THANK YOUUUU
YESSSSS I HAD NO IDEA HOW THANK YOU BIO!!! 🙏🙏🙏
oooohhh, yaass!!! Edit: Tbh, what I struggle the most is to keep the perspective of the snout the same as the main side of the face and the other side of the face. I always dont know how to do the cheek on the other side, like should it appear or not, etc.
Hi, Owibyx! I'm a huge fan!!
Ello Owi 👀
Yeah I think the perspective of the snout is really difficult, I do agree the cheek on the other side is hard to tell haha, I probably should have addressed that more. It all depends on how much the face is turned and tbh I still eyeball it sometimes without really knowing XD Maybe look at Wolves for reference? or dinosaurs? I feel they have face shapes closely resembling (Wings of fire) dragons anyway.
Ello 👀
There is just something about your art that is such- ❤️
She literally said that she will make another video, because this one is too long
I NEED THIS.
