Really appreciate your authentic personality & not an over eager, high-strung fake Ness most other youtuber prospectors have. I'll be buying that book!
Wow just a few weeks ago i was in Goldfield for Goldfield Days (their town festival) I have sorta fell in love with the town and with prospecting (part of my love for history)
i also have examples of hydrothermally brecciated rocks that were cemented back together by a dark black liquid [ quartz and crystalline/massive acanthite along with a couple that are purple on one side and green on the other with a distinct line of black between them..but the weird thing is that the green covers purple in roughly 1/4th inch on the green side and the same is true for the purple covering green opposite
Absolutely fascinating story of the town, and the photos are tremendous! As a new resident of the Silver (and gold!) State, I’m thrilled to learn about what life was like when the mines flourished. Not so much interested in finding gold, but I’m fascinated by all rocks and enjoy learning about how they are formed. I have your book, and it’s a gold mine of information!
Thanks so much for the riveting breakdown of the epithermal system and the crazy mining stories about how to properly employ a lunch box for optimal high grade recovery👍!
I've held specimens of gold vein ore from the Sleeper Mine in northern Nevada in my hand that assayed 25% (yes, I said PERCENT) gold!! A ton contains 29,166.6 troy ounces per ton and 25% of that is ~7,292 ounces per ton!! Many thousands of tons of this vein material assayed way over an ounce per ton (the mine produced about 330,000 ounces of gold per year for several years).
Hey Chris, thanks for another interesting video. How many of these undiscovered types of deposits do you think might still exist today? Maybe they have all been found?
You forgot to mention how the miners had to jump over the high bar, in the change room, whilst naked. I wonder what the recovery amount was from just the high bar.
im digging a rod and come across an aweful lot of what looks likerusty iron stained pegmatite with a lot of smoky quartz feldspar and biotite. i find garnets in every psn i get and i may have even seena flake of gold and silvery pickers but im just not sure. what would you be looking for in my shoes?ps. im in southern maine
Will gold form in the greenstone next to the quartz? I live in calaveras county and have claims on my property. I just cannot figure out what the old miners were looking for? It baffles me. .
The geology of Goldfield, Nevada is way different from the California mother lode. Generally the gold will only be in the quartz and not the greenstone.
Okay. Yeah the amount of quartz is insane here. The mine shafts on my property had to be dug out for a good reason. I've just had no luck crushing it or barely anything sluicing in my creek directly next to the mine. What is a good indicator I should be looking for? I studied geology in college and have a lot of experience rock hounding. It's been frustrating finding any gold worth while. Thank you for your time and help!

3 grams per ton near surface is economic these days. Multiple ounces per ton is hard to imagine, let alone the numbers you're stating. I find it hard to believe an ounce per pound ( 1/16th pure gold) ever existed within a quantity or ore beyond a few tons.
@@ChrisRalph I'm a geology grad, albeit not an historical expert in all gold fields, but seems unimaginable / apocryphal to me. I heard of concentrations in the deep leads in Victoria, Australia being a few ounces per ton, but nothing, especially in situ (not concentrated by alluvial processes) near to what you claim.
@@colincolenso🤔 "it seems" that is exactly what I would expect from a scientifically minded geologist. Had you not used that phrase I would have thought that your statement had no gravitas behind it. But as is, since "it seems" to you (without any research and the logical fallacy, plea to authority) then you sir have cracked this mystery wide open and shown it to be completely false. I will be using "it seems" in conjunction with plea to authority logical fallacy to convince the world of their wrongs. Thank you so much sir.
The geology of high sulfidation Epithermal gold deposits is very different from Orogenic types of deposits in the golden triangle of Victoria. The grade / tonnage model is very different from the ones you are used to.
@@hamaljay Gravitas does not imply correctness. I'm simply doubting such concentrations ever existed at such a scale. Having experience does not disqualify me, as you seem to infer. Where's the proof of 25% gold concentration for thousands of cubic yards of ore? I doubt it ever happened. The dirt would have an average density of around the weight of iron.
@ChrisRalph also its not like it was always a small town, it once was the biggest city in Nevada. I'm glad that the gas station is coming to Goldfield, hopefully that's means jobs for the locals as well
Yeah and many more people to come shit might as well start building a Walmart there as well. Then Jack up the rent to push out the locals. Buy up all the surrounding land and run miles of barbed wire fence that says keep out. Just so the person on the east side of the country can be sure his/her land is protected that they never took one step on.. don't worry I'm not bitter🎉
Hey Chris 🙂 Another picturesque vid, thank you sir. I've been all over that area in an 18 wheeler, and got caught in a miserable snow storm in Tanapaw 2004. Amazing area . Always loved going out west. I hunt meteorites and the provenance that goes along with the specimens are what make them extra, super desired so personally, I love and truly appreciate the stories or lore if you will that you offer🙏🇺🇸👈🏻MAGA

Thanks Chris, it took me two days to study this video. I am convinced there is gold in the UK. Many thanks.
Yes there is some gold in the UK. Use Google search to see more information.

Its a great area and with area towns like Tonopah and Beatty - there are loads of mines all around there.
@ChrisRalph i always go through tonopah whenever i head to Goldfield but haven't been to Beatty yet though!
i love your videos mr ralph. informational and informing without being overly technical

Hey Chris, thanks for another interesting video. How many of these undiscovered types of deposits do you think might still exist today? Maybe they have all been found?
New ones get discovered from time to time. A big one was discovered in Nevada in the 1980s.
You forgot to mention how the miners had to jump over the high bar, in the change room, whilst naked. I wonder what the recovery amount was from just the high bar.
I've read a lot about Goldfield, but never read anything about that highbar.
@@ChrisRalph I think all high grade mines where high grading was rampant, had a highbar jump.

I'd be looking for Garnet and tourmaline. Shiny silver and gold flakes are likely mica.

What was the richest mine of all time in Nevada?
How do you mean "richest"? produced the richest ore - or produced the most gold, even if it was from low grade ore.
300 oz of silver?
OK.

There was thousands of tons of that super high grade mined. Sometimes it was stored in a bank it was so valuable.
