- I do not own the copyrights to this. That said, this is possibly one of the most perfect remixes ever. It brings out and highlights every different synth part & track in the song. After a few listens when you go back & play the original single mix you find all sorts of sounds layered in the mix that you never knew were there and you realize just how complex this song is, despite the fact that the band recorded it in a day as a throwaway....
In my opinion this is the best remix, really great, thank you Robert Margouleff.
This is one of the many DM songs you can just close your eyes to and its pure magic. Hands down one of the best groups from the 80's electronic era

One of my favorite Depeche Mode song, also DM is my favorite electronic sound band, NEW WAVE is the most beautiful music genre that existed in our Planet and WILL REMAIN IMMORTAL.
I was walking through a sunny Trafalgar Square on my lunch break one day a few months ago when this song came on my personal stereo. I bawled my eyes out. I don't know why! This song does it every single time, whether it's Dave singing or Martin live.

One of my favorite Depeche Mode songs and, ironically, one of the songs that Depeche Mode hate the most.
Do they? I just saw the live at Austin City Limits version. Just a piano, and Martin singing it. There is no freaking way they dislike that one?
Why the hated it?
If I remember correctly it was Martin and Alan who didn't like it. Dave (and Fletcher?) loved it though. I recently read about it but I can't find the article so I may be very wrong :P
@@MrDeNnalol Alan said during a Recoil interview that the 3 DM songs he didn't like are: It's called a Heart, Pleasure Little Treasure and (sadly) But Not Tonight. While I can partly agree for the first 2 tracks, I can't really understand his bad comments about the last One😢 but Alan seems to be very emotive when judging, so I guess It has to do with the process of making this song... I'm afraid we will never find out the real reason of his dislikes💔

+John Inglis For almost 30 years I've used this remix as a clinic of sorts to showcase what a good remix is. It keeps the vocals intact and brings out every track individually, and when you go back to the 7" mix you hear it all in a fresh light and see how complex the song really was.
Yeah its excellent but DMs remix sorts me out.
In my opinion this was their best record.

Modern Girls. That movie should be mentioned, because it was the inspiration for this DM soundtrack. Great mix. You preserved the haunting xylophone and chorus effect.
i agree with marci, i could play this song everyday and not get bored with it. it really has stood the test of time. it is still a great song which makes you feel good everytime you hear it.

Shame the Margouleff mixes of this song were not included on the 2007 "Black Celebration" CD/DVD deluxe release. I understand that Martin especially was displeased that this was flipped to the A-Side on the "Stripped" single for the U.S. market. But this is a great pop song. A fantastic pop song, in fact. Having said that, this is an incredibly clean digital rip of a vinyl only 12" single and for that, I thank you.
