The quad 4 was powerful. But not very reliable. It ran well when it ran. But its design quirks and poor durability made it a nightmare to work on and expensive to repair
@@dmandman9 You're right. It was not the best inline 4 ever. As a matter of fact, it was one of the noisiest engines ever made. It is not an engine that I would recommend for anyone.
The Saturn S Series is definitely not forgotten. There is a huge following to these cars. Instill have a 2001 SC2 5 speed as my daily driver. Very reliable. About to hit 250k miles on it and still runs like it did 7 years ago when I bought it for $250. My family also races the SC2s at our local circle tracks. I had bought a Concorde with just under 67,000 miles the engine blew with just over 68,000 from sludge buildup I didn’t know about those having at the time
I had an '89 Pontiac Grand Am with the Quad-4 engine. You misspoke in stating the 442 had a V6. It had Old's designed (and GM's first twin-cam multivalve) four cylinder engine. Also, I had and loved my 1990 Capri XR2. IT was a blast to drive and many asked, "What IS that?" Lastly, choosing a VW Fox two-door wagon over a sedan to show would have been a better choice. And it was a Brazilian VW, not from Germany.
Best reason to have a VW Fox wagon was the ability to throw a few blankets in the back and get it on with the girlfriend. Guy I knew had one and that's exactly what he did with it.
@@catjudo1 Hah! I like them because they are two-door wagons and the engine is longitudinal. And they are rare. I drive an almost as rare wagon, a 2005 Volvo V50 T5 Sport with the six-speed manual tramsmission. I saw an intrepid on the road a few weeks ago and had to do a double take. It was like seeing a unicorn. Probably imo one of the biggest failures from dodge in the 90s due to the engine woes. The design was definitely a game changer tho.
I had a '99 Galant ES with the 3L engine. I think it was rated at 190hp. But the engine had a lot of torque. It just kept pulling. Gotta love the feeling of being pushed back into your seat as you accelerate.
I had forgotten that some of these cars existed since I haven't seen them in such a long time. I'd add the Ford Probe to the list for Part 2. I used to see a plethora of them but it was like one day they all just disappeared. It was a cool car in the 90s almost replacing the venerable Mustang. Now, they are just a fading memory.
My husband bought a 1992 Mercury Capri in 2004 for $1000. $1000 for a 12yo running vehicle from a dealer. We took it to Fun Ford Weekend, entering it into the car show, and no one knew what it was. It has to be a Ford, and people weren’t sure until we told them it was a mercury. Over hearing random spectators, one guy thought it was a fiesta, and another thought it was a festiva. It won a random “class award.” “Best Import” went to a fox body mustang, which wasn’t even imported. The Mercury however was literally made in Australia using Japanese parts.
I was born in 1999 and I do remember seeing some of these cars here when I was only 2 or 3. What I’m seeing now in the auto world makes me want the time machine to actually exist so I can go back to the 90s to see how much more awesome it was than it is today
The Acura Legend certainly applies. Honda was the top of the import luxury brand heap with those came out, but when they killed the car and the Integra, Honda essentially put the brand on life support. I'd also argue that the Chevrolet Caprice and the Ford Crown Victoria were popular too, and not just with cops. I drove a Caprice most days when I worked for the cab company and for such a large car, that thing would move and it would handle too. Always wanted one ever since.
Owned a 88 VW Fox 4 door sedan and loved that car because it was so simplistic. If something broke it was expensive to fix but loved that car because it was just a simple car and nothing else.
Many share your opinion. The VW Fox was a model based on the Passat B1 platform (from 1973) - so an already sort of old-fashioned design when introduced in the US (1987). Still it had great realiability and more than fair quality. The video also states that it brought up a cheap image for VW of America. That is not precise as consumers could pick up much more luxurious german VWs if wanted - other then the rather humble brazilian Fox. Cheers from Brazil. 🙂
1st gen Eagle Talon/Mitsubishi Eclipse. Owned a '91 Talon briefly, but insurance was insane for a 19 yo (cost as much per month as the car payment - this was in '93). I haven't seen either one of these cars in the wild in probably decades.
I just saw a 1st gen Eagle Talon on the road a few days ago. First time in decades. It was in perfect condition and looked great! I had forgotten about that car.
I bought a 91 Sunbird Se brand new, 3.1, 5 speed, lots of fun and fast for the day. Kept it for 5 years with no issues. My brother got a 90 Accord when they first came, one of the best cars of its time. My other brother had a new Intrepid in 93, always thought they were beautiful cars but quality of his was iffy.
When Honda decided to go stupid and replace the CRX with the Del Sol they lost their mind. CRX, a super sleek, economical to buy, extremely well engineered sporty 2 seater replaced with a flexi-flyer 2 seater thing. I had two CRX's and to this day, if anyone asks me what cars I enjoyed the most as an owner, it would by my 1991 CRX Si and HF. Both ends of the CRX line up. Followed very closely by my 1991 Civic Si. EF rules.
My mom owned a 1986 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo GT Coupe. It was two-tone blue, and she raced her friends to work, and she won every time! Eventually the turbo went out and she had to get rid of it due to it not being able to go even 1mph, but still drove.
I had a 2003 Chevy Cavalier for 11 years from 2006 from 2006 to 2017. It was one of the best cars that I have ever had. I currently drive a 2012 Toyota Corolla. It was 9 years old when I bought it. I have been driving it for 2 and a half years and it's still running good. I am hoping to drive it for the next 7 to 8 years. It's really great
I had a ‘92 Saturn SL2, moved to the Philly suburbs. It would often draw people in parking lots with its modern styling and maybe my Texas plates. It was a fun to drive 5 speed that got incredible gas mileage. In the end, it was a nice “my first New car”. I eventually outgrew the entry level car and moved on.
My first car was a 1998 Ford Contour SE in light denim blue. I got it in mid October 1999. It was a good first car. I was 29 years old on getting. It was old school when I was thinking of it. My current vehicle is a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. I remembered driving the Contour. The one thing that it had was a radio with tape cassette player. A lot of Ford cars as the same radios with tape player during the 90’s. Even my sister had a couple cars during the 90’s. She had a 1991 Ford Escort LX and a 1997 Ford Escort ZX2.
I remember the Dodge Intrepid because of a local police department!? They owned one for patrol. Out here in South West Pennsylvania the Hills can get quite steep. Front Wheel Drive Can come in handy!
I've got four 2nd Gen J Body cars. 1988 Z24 Coupe 2.8L 5-spd. 1988 Cavalier Wagon with 94 RS 3.1L automatic drivetrain, dash and electrical. 1992 Z24 Convertible 3.1L automatic. Lastly a 1994 Z24 (will have 3400 engine) 5spd Coupe. Some customizing during its rebuild. I love 'em, even if no one else does.

Excellent video. Another couple from the 90s I might add I had bought new a 1992 Dodge stealth RT, emerald green and black top, 222 HP V6. I know mostly made by Mitsubishi but a really fast nice handling car for the time. After that I had leased a new 1993 Cadillac STS, 300 HP, CD changer in the trunk, red with beige interior, fast and fun to drive for a larger, heavy car. I know history hasn't been kind to the Northstar V8 but in 3 years never had issues with the engine or anything else on the car.
I still love my Intrepid. I rarely drive it and just hit 90k miles and still looks brand new (my grandparents bought it new). It looks very out of place parked next to all of my old Chrysler stuff though.
Fun fact: The Mercury Capri was manufactured in Australia 🇦🇺 and exported to the USA, Australia had a sportier turbo charged version called " Capri XR2".
I'm still living in the 90's and these are still my favorite cars I most desire to own...well maybe not THESE in particular 😂 but my favorite cars are from the 90's 😉
the mercury capri was sold here as the ford capri and my grandfather had the a 60s one and a 90s one currently he has a cougar and mondeo so i think he likes ford
Sad but true story. Sometime in the 90s I'm sitting at a red light in my candy apple red Geo Metro convertible and a 2 door Fox rolls up, the light turned green and the Fox was gone...the Geo's 3 cylinder 55hp engine was screaming but it was no match for the little Fox.
I had a Fox 2 door wagon Wire harness caught on fire Replaced it myself. It was surprisingly easy. But it caught fire again. Then there was the mid-nineties Eclipse, and most don't know that the Mitsubishi was the reason why the Firebird and Camaro was no longer produced.
omg I got married on August 28 1999 and my wife Angy at the time had a '96 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe the basic model which was pretty crappy on the inside and didn't have alot of horsepower especially when she hit the gas pedal on the highway in Toronto, she said at Time the engine would say "you want to go faster!" LoL, we've been devorced since 2010
Civic Del Sol 🤣🤣🤣🤣 OMG I forgot about that one. But it made me remember another laughable entry: the Hyundai S'coupe!! 😀 Anyone remember the early Mitsubishi Eclipse? (The ones crossed over with Chrysler). They were fun, zippy little cars to drive (loved the stick shifts) but the engines were junk. Pull the dipstick on one after 3k miles, you'd be lucky if you saw any oil on it, and that's while it was hot. They were basically the poor man's 3000 GT/Stealth.
I have my classic car that I'll bring to cars and coffee when I'm 70 many decades from now, it's a 1992 Mazda MX3 gs, and I'm already planning on putting $5-8k restoring it to OEM with the exception of a ridiculous stereo and the bigger motor, rims and suspension.. 7k rpm 210 horsepower, 5-speed manual with a limited-slip differential, and a dang near 4.4 final drive in a 2500l lb frame = fun. P.s what about a ridiculous spoiler?
I’m confused… we don’t love the Accord anymore? It’s still ranked #1 in the midsize vehicle category by multiple car ranking platforms. Also, with prices rising on the Del Sol, why don’t we love that?? So confused…..
my best friend had an top trim implulse and he LOVED IT! it was his baby until he lost his license from under age drinking, and his parents MADE HIM sell it to his sister and MADE HIME TEACH HER TO DRIVE STICK! that hurt to watch her destroy that car...he eventlluy got it back but she trashed it
The Honda Del Sol originally had a power roof that slid back and stowed on top of the trunk lid. However, only cars sold in Japan had this feature. We here in the USA had to pop the roof off manually and store it inside the trunk. I sat in one at a car show and at 5’10” the Del Sol was too cramped for me. A friend has one and it’s become a classic. Hey Honda! You brought back the Passport, why not the Del Sol?
Loved my 95 Grand Prix, but it looked faster than it was. One of my win the lottery projects will be converting one into V8 rear wheel drive. 500 hp should do.
What I would do to find a 1st gen J car. Those were so loved at the time and anyone that had would love to have it back. Also an Impulse who don't love those. Would love one of those as well.
I'd rather cars from the 90-60s then newer cars I hate new cars I actually drive an old Honda Accord 🤣🤣 there's still plenty of Hondas and Mitsubishi galants around
Somebody else actually may have brought this up before me. But on 3-25-23. I make my statement. From what I understand there was literally only one Saturn car ever built after that they were all just rebadged GM products in one film or another. Saturn lasted as long as one vehicle only. I could be wrong but I have found multiple sources that whichever said the exact same thing. Please don't get mad if I'm wrong. But I would love to hear your comments and correct me. I have no issue ever giving an apology. Thanks
The Pontiac Sunbird GT turbo was in the 80s not the 90s, the none turbo Sunbird GT was just a Luke warmed over Cavalier Z24 with a 3.1 v6 from 91 to 94. In 1995 Pontiac Sunbird became the Sunfire
Kind of odd that you put the accord in with these oddball cars. The 90’s accords are extremely sought after and demand a heavy price in good condition.
The economy was for shit. You had Reaganomics and the trickle down swindle. Interest were through the roof. Car sales sucked. The savings and loan bank failures. It`s a wonder they sold any cares at all. I do like my Mercury Capri. Best car of all. People still have to ask what it is.
darrel petrie. They were made in Australia by Ford and based on Mazda 323 platform. Hold onto yours, they are starting to become collectable here (particularly the Turbo ones) and prices are on the up, so I suspect they may begin to rise there as well. I am looking to add one to my collection (of forgotten Australian built cars) in the next couple of years. The're pretty decent small convertible, and something different to "just another Miata" (MX5 here). Cheers!
A lot of the 90s cars, some dissapeared, others were rebadged, like the Volkswagen Fox, that car had a good price, but if you look at the Volkswagen Fox, it was a Volkswagen Jetta still on sale, of course at the time they had a 2 door model coupe, then you have the Volkswagen GTI,I believe they still had the Rabbit around,of course it was rebadged as a Mark1,Mark 2, the Cadillac Cimarron, basically that is a Chevrolet Cavalier, they tried to get young people to buy it, but when you have The Chevrolet Cavalier,/ Pontiac Sunbird 1st generation in comparison to the Chevrolet,Pontiac ,the Cadillac was more expensive, that is why they stop making the Cimarron, The Honda Accord is still around, except it became bigger, with more amenities, more models, of course you have Oldsmobile, which eventually would be fazed out, just like Pontiac Buick would start building SUVs
What are you talking about put the nail in the coffin for Isuzu you do realize there is whole world out there not just America even though that's hard for an American to comprehend. Isuzu sell SUV and 4wd vehicles all over the world
"Compact cars"... *laughs in european* - we call them midsize sedans (like Mercedes C-class, BMW 3-series etc. pp.), compacts are for example the VW Golf, Ford Focus, Opel Astra etc. pp.

Thanks for sharing Greg! TRUE.
Funny...i made love to my girl in her 1991 Geo Metro convertible. I guess that's about the only good thing that car was about. Lol...😁
Anyone remember the early Mitsubishi Eclipse? (The ones crossed over with Chrysler). They were fun, zippy little cars to drive (loved the stick shifts) but the engines were junk. Pull the dipstick on one after 3k miles, you'd be lucky if you saw any oil on it, and that's while it was hot. They were basically the poor man's 3000 GT/Stealth.
Thanks for watching Russell!
And that Isuzu!! I would totally drive that!!!
I loved the fox , I had one it was awesome
I also had a olds cutlass quad 4 it was snappy weak head gaskets though
I owned a 1995 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal. Silver color.
Cool😀
Thanks for watching Michael.
I beg to differ w/ the "but not anymore" part. '90-'93 Accord is still hot af 🔥 One the best cars to ever do it
I’m confused… we don’t love the Accord anymore? It’s still ranked #1 in the midsize vehicle category by multiple car ranking platforms. Also, with prices rising on the Del Sol, why don’t we love that?? So confused…..
I had a 2002 Dodge Intrepid, I still miss that car.
9:30-Joe Isuzu: the lying salesman (his name is David Leisure)
He also played a game show host on one of the episodes of “Married with children”
my best friend had an top trim implulse and he LOVED IT! it was his baby until he lost his license from under age drinking, and his parents MADE HIM sell it to his sister and MADE HIME TEACH HER TO DRIVE STICK! that hurt to watch her destroy that car...he eventlluy got it back but she trashed it
The Honda Del Sol originally had a power roof that slid back and stowed on top of the trunk lid.
I was getting ready to say, there better be a part 2, because Y'all missed some very important sports cars from the 90s...
Loved my 95 Grand Prix, but it looked faster than it was. One of my win the lottery projects will be converting one into V8 rear wheel drive. 500 hp should do.
'97 Chrysler Sebring...Classic.
What I would do to find a 1st gen J car. Those were so loved at the time and anyone that had would love to have it back. Also an Impulse who don't love those. Would love one of those as well.
What i would do to go back to those days..hehe. Thanks for watching!!!
I think the VW Fox was called Polo in Ireland/UK/Europe

I'd rather cars from the 90-60s then newer cars I hate new cars I actually drive an old Honda Accord 🤣🤣 there's still plenty of Hondas and Mitsubishi galants around
I’ve got a 1999 Geo Metro still going strong
Somebody else actually may have brought this up before me. But on 3-25-23. I make my statement. From what I understand there was literally only one Saturn car ever built after that they were all just rebadged GM products in one film or another. Saturn lasted as long as one vehicle only. I could be wrong but I have found multiple sources that whichever said the exact same thing. Please don't get mad if I'm wrong. But I would love to hear your comments and correct me. I have no issue ever giving an apology. Thanks
I'd hardly say the Accord and Saturn S series are forgotten or unloved
The Pontiac Sunbird GT turbo was in the 80s not the 90s, the none turbo Sunbird GT was just a Luke warmed over Cavalier Z24 with a 3.1 v6 from 91 to 94. In 1995 Pontiac Sunbird became the Sunfire
my dad had a used Subaru GL-10 for a bit when I was a kid

Why does the Volkswagen fox looks so similar to a B12 1987-1990 Nissan Sentra?
Kind of odd that you put the accord in with these oddball cars. The 90’s accords are extremely sought after and demand a heavy price in good condition.
Hell yeah I agree, car makers made quite a few cauldrons in the days
Thanks for watching!
Quad 442 was an inline 4, not a V6. It was basically half of the Northstar.
Sunbird gt looks nice
What!!!!!!, the Honda Accord. Naw, this must be a mistake
Ha! We knew going into this that the Honda would throw you off. Thanks for watching!!!
Many of these cars were never loved (fox. Etc) and some others we do still love (accord, etc). Not a strong or accurate list.
Pete, Everything in life is SUBJECTIVE. I love the Accords though.
Dunno. Ppl still do love the deal sol
The American cars of the 80s and 90s led to the Japanese take over of the industry.
the current dodge charger is simply a rebadged, slighty redesigned intrepid.
Most got used up by the late 00's and junked by 07-09
I have a 98 dodge intrepid I love it it has 125 K on it!
ford contour svt?
Thanks for watching!!!
GEO Storm? I always thought it was a cool car
Cheers!
@@phillipevans9414 The only sports car with a usable trunk
Better check your facts the quad442 was a 4 cylinder you said 6 it is a 2.3 quad4
The Saturn, both in car form or SUV or minivan, dissapeared of course you you can still see some on the roads,
yeah about 12 in the country--junk
A lot of the 90s cars, some dissapeared, others were rebadged, like the Volkswagen Fox, that car had a good price, but if you look at the Volkswagen Fox, it was a Volkswagen Jetta still on sale, of course at the time they had a 2 door model coupe, then you have the Volkswagen GTI,I believe they still had the Rabbit around,of course it was rebadged as a Mark1,Mark 2, the Cadillac Cimarron, basically that is a Chevrolet Cavalier, they tried to get young people to buy it, but when you have The Chevrolet Cavalier,/ Pontiac Sunbird 1st generation in comparison to the Chevrolet,Pontiac ,the Cadillac was more expensive, that is why they stop making the Cimarron, The Honda Accord is still around, except it became bigger, with more amenities, more models, of course you have Oldsmobile, which eventually would be fazed out, just like Pontiac Buick would start building SUVs
junk
You skipped over the 1998-2002 Honda Accord
Thanks for watching. Make sure and subscribe cause we'll be giving out prizes soon!
Most90's cars were so poor quality they had been scrapped by now
What are you talking about put the nail in the coffin for Isuzu you do realize there is whole world out there not just America even though that's hard for an American to comprehend. Isuzu sell SUV and 4wd vehicles all over the world
Not all of the "facts" stated in this video are true.
actually the saturns plastic was like that of the fiero
The dislike button would have been helpful here....
Thanks for watching!!!
"Compact cars"...
*laughs in european* - we call them midsize sedans (like Mercedes C-class, BMW 3-series etc. pp.), compacts are for example the VW Golf, Ford Focus, Opel Astra etc. pp.
