I've never had a tenth of your follow-through with things I've tried. Love all you do with CG and SUSD, and I'm so thankful that you're all able to make a living while taking the time you need for Life Circumstances. That's such a gift. Thanks for putting wonderful things into the world!
I don't back CG and SU&SD because I want a constant flow of stuff, I back you for the quality. I live in the US and work from home so I don't commute or get coffee at expensive shops, instead I put that money towards creators and do so happily. All the best to you and yours and see you when we see you.
As a depressed person who lacks the discipline to ever work on the projects I desperately want to complete, I have a tremendous amount of respect for you. The volume and quality of your work is far beyond what I would ever expect of someone shouldering your problems.
I loved the old stuff but I want to emphasize how much I enjoy this Cool Ghosts format. While they feel like episodes, I place it in that high tier of internet entertainment which is always worth waiting for and impossible to replace. Take your time, we aren't going anywhere, no expectations for time, count on our support. Even if this channel ever were to go dead, it would still be full of cool ghosts.
Super glad to hear the wife is doing well. Take your time Matts, you've had a rough road, and have handled it with grace; You and Quinns are doing amazing stuff, and I hope I speak for alot of us when I say that we want your labor of love, regardless of how erratic the timing of the releases are.
Really enjoyed the two episodes of the new thing, doesn't bother me that it's infrequent. I don't have enough time for all the things I want to do/watch as it is already. I will be waiting patiently for more! 😊
Completely understandable look after yourself, but if you aren't part of the "constant flow" does this mean Daft Souls is effectively gone now? It's been in kind of a limbo for a while now.
So! Daft Souls is a difficult one. I really enjoyed recording it, but Quinns didn't find it particularly fulfilling. Prior to that I obviously had a healthy cycle of brilliant guests, but due to free time and geography that circle of peers-but-also-friends has all but dried up over the past few years. The third difficulty is possibly the toughest one: I just don't *play* as many video games as I used to - and certainly not as consistently as I did a few years ago. Modern games are so time-intensive that I just don't have the capacity to play so many of them - the idea of frequently podcasting about them just wouldn't work unless I took the time to play games a lot more than I do - and I've increasingly clocked that sitting in a dark room alone for hours on end isn't necessarily the best thing for me at the moment! BUT. BUT BUT BUT: I do really miss podcasting in that style, and I'm still thinking a lot about how I could bring it back as a monthly thing, perhaps finding another permanent co-host who's into it. I've really got the podcast itch at the moment, it's just that working out How What and How is more of a puzzle than it may appear from the outside. EDIT: I may have actually just solved this puzzle, keep an eye out over the next few months. :D
I was always a fan ( and still am ) of the work where you just had tea and talked about games or any old shit that came into your head. I do miss your podcasts, I was gutted when you left videogamer.com ,but was glad to see you set up cool ghosts :)
Cool Ghosts I miss hearing y’all on my podcast feed so much. I’m glad to hear that it’s something you would like to return to. I loved the older frequent-guest style a lot more than the newer two man show style but most of all what I listen to daft souls for is not your thoughts on the current gaming landscape, but the fascinating and weird and imperfect games you all played in decades past. You are the ones who introduced me to Planescape: Torment and STALKER. I love hearing passion and fascination of the games that came out when things were a bit more of a Wild West out there. Please bring this back. My ears haven’t been the same since you left :(
I loved the Daft Souls episodes, especially the ones with just you and Quinns, and obviously all of the Cool Ghosts reviews. Maybe the occasional video review in the old style? That only requires one person, unlike the podcast episodes. The new videos are amazing, and I'm not surprised that they are time consuming and sporadic. Maybe the occasional review outside of those could be a lower maintenance thing to throw into the mix?
For what it's worth, and I'm sure no one opinion is enough to make decisions for your life, but I absolutely adored Daft Souls. It was like listening to myself having the kind of fulfilling conversations I have with my friends about games, but I get to have it while I'm driving to work, vicariously, and it was wonderful. And I'm sure I'm not the only person who deeply misses Daft Souls too!
Stoked that you're both so happy with what you've been working on and I'm looking forwards to whatever you produce. All of Cool Ghosts is such a positive presence in my videogames digest. Thanks Matt, and good luck!
I’ve been stuck at home for over a year, and your videos and the introduction to board games are two of the reasons why this period in my life has been tolerable. I am always rewatching everything you guys made on Cool Ghosts or SUSD. Keep it up and keep being weird, looking forward to what’s next.
Just a comment to voice my support for you to take your time with the episodes. I can certainly see why you love them (I love what I’ve seen so far from the reformat too). The joy of UA-cam as a platform means you set the rules, there is no schedule and no need to compromise on your vision. So take the time and make sure you are happy with and love every episode.
Haha thanks for the update Matt, don't worry about it, one of the benefits of your occupation is that you're your own boss and you set your own schedules. Love the line 'learn to be patient.... Or just go away'.
Thank you so much for talking about the difficult circumstance you're in! I think it's great, and important to talk openly about anxiety and depression. I think seeing smart, funny, "successful" (that's what you are to me, and what your work is to me) people are affected by these things as well makes other people be able to open up more about their own issues. I only just discovered cool ghosts and holy crap especially the third episode, the effects and everything!! Top notch!
That Flubber reference will keep me going for at least six months. The passion behind your projects is always the main selling point for me, so take your time. It’s always quality, and that’s quite the rarity.
I might have said it before, but I'll say it again just to be sure - this cool ghosts show thingy is really really really really good. It's probabbly the best youtube content I've ever seen in terms of quality, and easily the best entertainment stuff I watch (I don't watch a lot of movies). I love it, and I have no problems waiting forever, though these updates really do help. Oh yeah thanks for that by the way. I forgot what I wanted to say so I'll just stop typing any second n
Matt you're extremely cool for being this candid. what a dude !!!!!! massive fan, have been following you since I was an XL kid, I'm a tiny baby adult now and I still have enormous respect for your work, you've moulded my sense of humour and your attitude is an inspiration to me. go Matt lees :))))
Big love mate, like many others who follow Cool Ghosts I'm happy whenever it's ready! Best of luck with the real life stuff, I'm have huge empathy for the depressive / anxiety stuff. I tell you what I *do* miss, though.. The podcast! Listening to you and Quins just chat games for 90 mins or whatever was so awesome. True story: saw Quins at a pub at Reading train station the other day. I wish I'd said hi! HI QUINTIN!
I absolutely love the new format, keep working on it and anything else you feel passionately about. Your enthusiasm and heart shine through in work like that, and it makes me excited to play games and share.
Thanks Matt, I was wondering what the plan was a while ago. Keep em coming, this is one of the channels I remember to manually check for new content :)
Totally understand the desire to create something you're proud of. Would love for you to return to podcasting as well. While I know Quinns was never too fond of it, I do miss a regular dose of silky Matt Lees radio goodness. Especially given your absence from Regular Features recently
I understand man, I myself got diagnosed 3 years ago this month, people close to you endure a fuck ton of emotional battering and pressure. Hope you find a solid way to cope with yourself. Xx
Man, it's all good. The work has been top notch so far. Whatever you got to do to keep happy and healthy - you don't have to explain yourself to your backers, though an update to check you guys are still alive/dead/ghosts/whatever is always nice.
Flubber Matt!!!! Thanks for the update! Warning sentimental thoughts ahead: Your work came to my brother and I at a time when we were pretty close-minded(that was before cool ghosts. Wow so long!). I don't want to speak for him but your humor and ideals really opened my mind to so many things. From video games to politics to cooking I owe a part of it all to you guys. It definitely brought us closer together and just know that we'll always support what you do cause y'all are brilliant. Love y'all!
Just discovered your stuff lately (Seriously, the thought that Disgaea 5 is a game about navigating menus and what that says about me has bounced around in my head since you said it), and love the new episodic stuff. Hope you keep having fun with it!~ So, unsolicited advice time! Don't stress too much about making episodes as good or better than what came before, just keep momentum where you can! "The ink flows down into a dark puddle. Just move your hand, and write your way into (our) heart!" Good luck whatever happens going forward though!
I'm happy you care that much about Cool Ghosts, because I really like what you did so far, and I hope you'll keep the motivation for making more of it. And for that, I can wait for when it's ready.
Thank you so much for the honest talk about your struggles! I watched this with my wonderful boyfriend that has an anxiety day, and it seemed to help him to hear someone he admires share their humanity. Thank you and take your time! We’ll stay.
I don't mind about the sporadic releases. The episodes are absolutely great and I'm happy to hear there will be more. Looking forward to them whenever they happen.
Thanks for your honesty, it's really refreshing. I'm deeply sorry to hear that life has been difficult. I do think that the way that you have talked about it, here and in other videos brings some rays of light into a culture that can have very little tolerance for real humanity. Thanks for letting us in on your passion. I've deeply enjoyed all that you good have done over the last couple years. Taking care of yourself is super important and healthy and we are all very capable of waiting. Looking forward to episode three whenever it happens!
A new Cool Ghosts video is always a treat whenever they come, there's quite honestly so much media to consume these days that its actually quite refreshing getting a nice juicy platter as a surprise now and then rather than getting drip fed skittles each week. Glad things are on the up Matt, keep being awesome!
I really love the new cool ghosts episode format. I can wait as long as it takes to see the new ones, and even if the quality dipped a bit I'd still love them. Hope your situation gets better Matt, you are easily one of my favourite people I know of. Cheers.
To be honest one episode of Cool Ghosts every 3-6 months feels like a pretty quick turnaround considering how enjoyable they are. I'm not going anywhere. :)
The new version of CG was surprising and interesting and I really liked it. Quality like this is worth waiting for. Thanks for creating what you create.
I love your stuff so much Matt, no matter the pace. Thank you for doing it and sharing it with us. And I understand not being able to be productive at the stuff you care most about, I understand it all too well. WHY DO YOU REMIND OF MY OWN FAILI... nvm, I've calmed down now. Cheers.
Thanks for the update! I'm so glad to hear you haven't stopped working on the episodes. Please take your time and do it at a pace that fits your own needs.
If I wanted consistent then I'd watch TV... I'm here because you guys amuse me and I'd rather it be random rather than forced to be regular. Not that I'm opposed to regular... but so many TV shows go to the trash heap after a few seasons, so as long as that doesn't happen.
After initially subscribing to Cool Ghosts when it was just Matt Lees' reviews and commentary, I found my interest kind of subsiding a bit as stuff I wasn't that interested in (non-scripted podcasts etc) took a focus. But the new episodic show completely changed that, it's really funny and insightful and easy to be enthusiastic about. It feels like the kind of content I want to show people to illustrate how games are more than just toys and are a form of real expression. So glad that the channel has taken this direction and as long as there'll be more I don't mind how long it takes.
Everything you guys do is amazing. Been so inspired by the new Cool Ghosts. Its so fucking weird! Also, Jesus, how did you even do one in the first place?!?! Your production value has sky rocketed. So things happen when they happen. Keep being great!
I kind of assumed that was how this was going to work from the get go. Such well scripted long form content was always going to be sporadic at best, not to mention all of the other things going on in your professional and personal lives. Thanks for the update though! (Incredibly well-produced closing statment)
This is great. You should also cook stuff though, Cool Ghosts, Shut Up and Sit Down, Matt Cook's. Where ever it's at, I've always loved your recipes and use them regularly
Occasionally with this and with SU&SD I get a little impatient despite myself... It's at these points that I remember that the reason I get impatient is because the quality is just SO SO good and if maintaining that standard mean that releases become more sporadic then so be it, because every upload is exciting to see in my subs and every video is absolutely worth the wait! Keep up the great work Matt (and Quinns) and thanks for not apologising for your creative process!
How its that i havent come across this chanel sooner? I know you from your board game reviews in shut up and sit down, but gaming is me main hobby. How in the world UA-cam never recomend me this chanel, well i have tons of great catalogue to rumagge trought and ill be here when you can comeback, best wishes to you Matt.
Whatever you do, and however long it takes, I'll be happy to watch! I seriously think you two have some of the most insightful views on games, cardboard and plasticy miniatures or otherwise, I've seen online. Please do take as long as you need to produce whatever you'd like.
You're definitely not the only one I follow with an irregular schedule, and the ones that do have the best stuff. So this is pretty much par for the course. Don't forget to take plenty of walks. Take care of yourself, we trust you.
Big love Matt! The most important things you can do are to take care of yourself and to make the things that are most creatively fulfilling to you. Cool Ghosts is brilliant and I can't wait to see more.
As someone who deals with long-term stressors (although thankfully not what you've been through), I fully understand how hard it can be to work through it all. Thanks also for being so honest about the behind-the-scenes parts of it.
Awesome. I love what you guys do, please take your time and make your art when you're good and ready. Media is changing and has been for a long time now. Regular instalments of content on a production line are artefacts of old media and old funding models. We're also in a point in history where media has undergone a massive Cambrian explosion and there is more good content to consume than there is time to consume it. Making quality content for a narrow audience is something that can work now, and the demand is slowly swinging to quality over quantity. Keep up the quality work lads.
Thanks for the update Matt. We're all looking forward to the next one, but there won't be any next one if you don't look after yourself, so take care :) well wishes working through your depression. Thanks for the inspirational work!
Hey, I've really enjoyed both episodes so far, your passion is clearly evident and I really like the style of them. I support SUSD directly and I assume a bit of my support bleeds over into CG too (although I don't know, I just assume). I'm personally happy to wait for episodes as long as they take, though I can obviously only speak for myself.
So sorry to hear about this, wishing you and your wife the best of luck. Anyway I really enjoy the style of your comedy and even though it sucks I can totally wait for more. As much as it feels like your in the trenches now I know you'll slog on to pastures anew, the spectre of death can be a creepy dude but in those sombre moments try to appreciate the bitter melancholy that makes life so sweet.
Man, you guys mean so much to me and inadvertently helped through some pretty shit times. I wish I could help you half of what you helped me. I hope with all my heart that you and your wife make it through and find balance. I know how shitty it gets with loved ones and cancer and how much it takes from you. At this point even though I love what you do so much I want you to be happy and prioritize health and love. Xoxo
Has this project been abandoned? I mean I see the boys on SU&SD at least once a week, but after about half a year without any information at all I find it really sad it ended this way. Especially the last video being a "Don't worry, stuff is coming"-thing. Did they post something on Social Media? Although I'd find it really weird and out of character if they're relying on a hellhole like Facebook or Twitter to connect with their audience.
Have no fear, Matt, we'll be here, waiting, just happy to receive whatever content you put out. Both this and SU&SD remain some of the best content on the internet, and I, for one, am glad to support you. Wishing you all the best, I'll just wait here rewatching your XCOM material whilst eating cinnamon sweet potato fries!
Chin up Matt! The work you’ve been doing for this show is amazing and I for one have no issues with the schedule. I’d much rather you take the time you need to make it the best you feel you can than to feel pressure to just release more stuff because it’s ‘time’ or whatever. Even if you never release another episode, you should be very proud of the amazing work you’ve already delivered. Nothing is worse than growing to hate what you love due to silly outside pressure. Just take care of yourself, that’s the most important thing.
Hang in there mate, love the show, and I'll wait however long it takes for it... and remember it doesn't have to be perfect, we just like hearing what you have to say about things :)
really love the new format, reminds me of the structure of the original SU+SD videos with the goofy framing stories Quinns and Paul would deploy. sure it's a ton more work, too! keep doin what you do at your pace, I'm not goin anywhere.
Cool Ghosts the Series has been a brilliant little project so far, and speaking as someone who loved your work at Videogamer - both the on-point critiques and the silly stuff like feeding cupcakes to Bratters or Animal Croissants, - and who has supported your Patreon since you started out on your own, I know that you're at your peak when you're working on things that capture your interests and imagination. While I'm sure there are some people who just want more silly voice overs like the old E3 videos, I think the most of us value the passion you and Quinns both put into your work, and get excited when you're excited. And from a more personal perspective I can fully empathise with the desire to not release something until you're fully satisfied with it. So while I don't think we'll wait with baited breath for risk of turning blue, I think there's a lot of us who really want to see this project shine. On the note of projects that wouldn't require as much scripting or editing, though, are there any plans to resume the podcast in the interim periods between episodes?
Aww Matt, take all the time you need. We all love you (and Quinns I guess). When it comes out, it comes out. Its a nice treat to find it surprisingly uploaded.
It's remarkable what you've managed to do already given all the other things you have to deal with in life. Also until you're at least 50 you aren't "old". I'm 40 and it already surprises me that people can be worried about getting to 30. I can only say that the additional maturity from your life will make creative projects better. Maybe. I could have just made that up to sound encouraging! I'm hoping I can translate my own hardships into something creative, so I find you to be quite an inspiration, along with Mr. Smith.
The Cool Ghosts episodes have been great so far, I'd rather have a longer time between episodes and have them be good rather than have them be rushed out and less good. Keep up the good work, and I'll rush to watch them whenever they're out
Of all the not-an-apology, not-excusing videos I've seen, this is the best yet. Very understandable, strangely entertaining, keep at it - in all senses. Edit: My advice is to spend time around other creative sorts. It'll help with a lot of the issues you mentioned.
I've never had a tenth of your follow-through with things I've tried. Love all you do with CG and SUSD, and I'm so thankful that you're all able to make a living while taking the time you need for Life Circumstances. That's such a gift.

Matt you are great. I'm proud of you for getting valve so directly involved in cool ghosts episode 3.
"it won't be soon" 12 months later...
Still love you both. Have just found that this is a podcast!
Really enjoyed the two episodes of the new thing, doesn't bother me that it's infrequent. I don't have enough time for all the things I want to do/watch as it is already. I will be waiting patiently for more! 😊
Matt, is it still coming? I love everything about your channel and I love you and Quinten. And I would be really sad if things never end up happening
Completely understandable look after yourself, but if you aren't part of the "constant flow" does this mean Daft Souls is effectively gone now? It's been in kind of a limbo for a while now.

I really love the new cool ghosts episode format. I can wait as long as it takes to see the new ones, and even if the quality dipped a bit I'd still love them. Hope your situation gets better Matt, you are easily one of my favourite people I know of. Cheers.
Hey, friend. You're good. From one caretaker of a cancer patient to another, I totally feel what you're going through. You're doing great work.
Matt I found this cool new game you should feature on the next episode. It's called Zuma. Don't know if you've heard of it before. Z U M A !
Thank you for the update. Take care. It's done when it is done are great words to live by. 💖 Quality > Quantity.
It's not just your best work. It's the best work anybody making game content on UA-cam has ever made.
However long it takes you guys I will be here to watch it when it does happen. Best wishes guys
If I wanted consistent then I'd watch TV... I'm here because you guys amuse me and I'd rather it be random rather than forced to be regular. Not that I'm opposed to regular... but so many TV shows go to the trash heap after a few seasons, so as long as that doesn't happen.
I think of these eps as fun things that occasionally happen, like rainbows or sociable crows.
I'll wait as long as I need to wait! Sure, I'd watch this every week if I could. But even an annual release would be a treat.
I have greatly enjoyed your video series and look forward to the next installment. I wish you and your wife well!
I'm glad you are fine, can't wait for the new episodes. Wish you the best
Take your time guys, you can't rush these things, we all know it will be worth the wait. Great to hear your wife is doing well! All the best
You're definitely not the only one I follow with an irregular schedule, and the ones that do have the best stuff. So this is pretty much par for the course. Don't forget to take plenty of walks. Take care of yourself, we trust you.
Good to hear from you, Matt. Take care of yourself. It's the most important thing.
Big love Matt! The most important things you can do are to take care of yourself and to make the things that are most creatively fulfilling to you. Cool Ghosts is brilliant and I can't wait to see more.
Keep going; I wont stop looking out for your (yours, Quin's, Paul's) work coming over the horizon. The wait on our end is worth it.
Take it easy, mate. Do what you need to do in the time you need to take and we'll be here when you chaps have something you're happy with
Thanks for the update, Matt. I'm sticking with you gents in any event!
As someone who deals with long-term stressors (although thankfully not what you've been through), I fully understand how hard it can be to work through it all. Thanks also for being so honest about the behind-the-scenes parts of it.
i love this channel and the things you guys do - never felt entitled to any of it all! take your time
Love the episodes and glad to hear they will keep coming! Thanks for bringing them into the world.
For content like this, I'd prefer you to take your time and get it right anyway. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard. Keep up the good work!
Look forward to the next episode, first two were great. Glad your mrs is doing better as well. Take care of yourself Matt
This was 6 months ago... What happened? Really want more videos. Liked the first two
Thanks for the update Matt.
You are a hero Matt. Good luck with the project.
Take your time. This channel blew my mind, and my expectations were not low, coming from SUSD! Lightning rarely strikes twice, yet it has- bottle it!
Yeah, yeah that’s cool and all but I’m still waiting for Matt & Steve’s Amazing Week #11.
So happy to hear this! The new format is amazing.
Thanks for the update. Nothing but love for you guys. Stay strong ❤
It's still coming.
@@MattLees Is it still coming? :)
@@MattLees Is it still "still coming"?
@@MattLees yay still coming, hopefully soon...?
Cool Ghosts ...you sure?
Similar experience here. Raising a family and more can take your time and stamina in a good way. Keep doing what you need to do for you ^_^
really love the new format, reminds me of the structure of the original SU+SD videos with the goofy framing stories Quinns and Paul would deploy. sure it's a ton more work, too! keep doin what you do at your pace, I'm not goin anywhere.
Dude. This Ist for free for us. Thank you for entertaining us the way you do!
you guys still there?
I'm really happy with your first two episodes.
Just like CDprojekt Red said about the Witcher 3: It's going to be done when it's finished.
Keep up the good work, and I'll rush to watch them whenever they're out
We love you Matt! Take your time and continue delivering amazing content on your schedule. We're here for ya!
It's ready when it's ready. Take care man - you and Quinn's are a huge force of good.
WOOOO GET EM GUYS. I love these new episodes. Good luck with episode 3!
Of all the not-an-apology, not-excusing videos I've seen, this is the best yet. Very understandable, strangely entertaining, keep at it - in all senses.
Edit: My advice is to spend time around other creative sorts. It'll help with a lot of the issues you mentioned.
Thanks for an update! Here's cliché from me: Cool Ghosts is great because you guys are great.
