I joined scouting when my father was in the Air Force and stationed at Eglin AFB. This was in 1973.
I absolutely loved it! The area council had a log book with merit badge counselors, names, addresses, and phone numbers. I was able to obtain the rank of Star scout at a pretty good clip and acquired more than the necessary merit badges.
But then dad retired, and we moved to an area that was less fortunate when it came to scouting, leadership and merit badge counseling.
I fought the good fight, and after two grueling years, I obtained the rank of Eagle.
A good Scout leader makes all the difference in the world.

I totally agree that a good Scout leader makes all the difference. Everyone must get involved and help young people achieve. Using the principles and Scout values based on the Scout Oath and Law. I hope that you are still involved in a local unit as they need your wisdom and guidance. Thank you so much for contributing to our discussion of leadership. It is always a pleasure to talk with a fellow Eagle Scout. YIS⚜

Hey Stan, great topic. On your point about parents, I asked for parent volunteers to help with Bears Protect Yourself Rules. A mom stepped up and did an amazing job with the kids. This is a great tip and I am hoping to get parent help again this year!

Hey Stan I have an idea for video maybe you can go over the historical Trail award and the old historical Trail metals I can't seem to find a list of all the old historical Trail metals but the few that I found are very fascinating

Thank you so much for the suggestion. A lot of trail awards are extremely local. When I was a youth and lived in Saratoga NY there was a highly sought-after Saratoga Battlefield trail award. Anywhere else and they had no idea that there was even a metal for this trail. With 272 councils with one or more local trail metals, the video would be a series that would run for years. That would be kind of hard to cover in a 15-minute or less video. I like your suggestion about the historical trail award video. I just went over the schedule for this season and bumped over a subject that was taking too long to develop for next season. I have slotted in the historic trails award for season 9, episode 16 (air date 231101). Thank you so much for the video suggestion, it's now going to be a part of this season. YIS⚜

So... Attend meetings and do training. That sounds like the opposite of fun.

It's all a point of view. If you go into a meeting or training with the mindset that it's not fun, you will fulfill that prophecy for yourself and everyone around you. Some meetings are not fun but necessary to resolve a situation or a conflict. When a positive result is achieved it can be quite meaningful and generate happiness. Live Scout leader training is unique in that it is meant to be a fun experience. Online training is done at the learner's convenience. Some individuals do not like learning new skills while others thrive. Again, it's all up to the individual and their perception. For many scout leaders, their experience is rather short Part of their lifetime. For many, it is one of the best times spent giving back to young people and paying it forward. I look back on the years that I spent as Cubmaster and remember wonderful rocket days in the park, pack meetings out of control, and doing other incredible events. An enduring memory that was carried forward by many of the cub scouts for their lifetime. Yes, training and meetings can be fun if you let them. YIS⚜

The root word of Organization is "organize". The root word of Committee is "commit". The root word of Leadership is "lead".
