    I've worked salvage a few years and half the work we got was tearing down abandoned or old buildings. While the excitement of checking out old places sounds fun there are reasons they were left alone. Mostly structural damage or an unstable foundation due too financial neglect. Explore at your own risk because nobody may be around to save you if the structure finally gives in. Or worse, if people actually live there...

      Sometimes the explorer is the one who makes it collapse (especcialy on the second floor and up). Even then there's still live dangling wires, mold, and wildlife To worry about. Imagine driving into the middle of no where just to die to a bunch of mold, or a bear

      Very true about that last part. Drug addicts/labs and sometimes gangs occupy abandoned buildings. Exploring places where it looks like people just ran out without even bringing anything with them is especially dangerous, like that abandoned Disney water park. There was still food left in the freezers, and medical supplies left there. The people packed up and left quickly for a reason, so no reason to go exploring. Maybe I have just a liiiiitle too much melanin, but i've never felt the urge to go exploring places I shouldn't being going to.😅

      There was writing on wall at a fascinating abandoned building in Brisbane about barbequeing white women's bodies in Brisbane. Lucky they were not there still. Australian Aborigines wrote it.

    If you visit Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire southwest England you will find at least 4 abandoned villages but don't hang around too long especially in the village of Imber because most of Salisbury Plain is used for military training and is highly restricted to civilians .

    There are time limits for the tours to Pripyat as well, to limit radiation exposure. You obviously can't stay in the area for long periods of time anyway as the only "legal" way to get in is through a carefully managed and planned tour route. This is on my bucket list though as an urban explorer.
    Actually burying the dead beneath church floors was a common practice in some parts of the world. I think this has long since been abandoned and some countries probably don't allow it, although many churches do still keep their deceased priests in crypts in some churches (I guess this is still "legal" but it may depend on the country, state, or region).

    I like to add some info about the Borgund church in Vestland/Norway.
    First, stave is not the name, but the genre of these churches built by Vikings and other seafaring pagan folks. The Norwegian name is stave kirken, what translated means ''stick church,'' or rather beam, as the churches are made of wooden beams. The outer most often black appearance is due to its pitch or tar cover protecting it from the elements.
    The staven kirken are found all over Norway in various sizes.
    Oh, and btw, they aren't ''abandoned places,'' but a very present lively part of Norwegian folklore and history.
    Me, personally I love the stave kirken, visited many around Norway, and each has this magical sacred inside, small and sparsely but very beautiful.

      Well I don't imagine it to be any creepier than any major Cathedral or palace that hosts the tombs of European royalty, within their foundations, walls or catacombs. And since those aren't really creepy, because it's not like they died there, they were just buried, it's mostly a thing of respect and solemnity, I guess.

    • @SuzannePada
      @SuzannePada 9 місяців тому +1

      @@m0t0b33 exactly, as he said the church foundation is considered the must sacred part, like also in Christian belief.

    I have to admit I was going to comment about how you should come up with new places after seeing Chernobyl and Hashima island then the Estonia prison mine. They were all repeats that so so many people have done stories on. As well as Kolmanscope. Yet as I watched I noticed you had quite a few new places I have not seen videos on. And with some others your detail was much better. Good video. Maybe avoid some of the constantly done locations. You don’t need the fluff. Your info on the locations and new places people haven’t seen are your ticket. Good video

    It's really funny to hear English speakers butchering names in my native language 😂 The way Kolmanskop was pronounced is really funny. Another reason for the abandonment was because the people relied on water being transported by train. So when a war started, those in charge weren't able to do this and thus no water were able to be delivered.

    See... You learn somthing every day. I lived on Roosevelt Island from 1976 to 1986 back whwn it was first redeveloped. I've explored those buildings as a kid, with the exception of the prison. I didn't know "the ruins" as we called them (There were more building like the one you showed then) was a hospital for small pox patients or that "The Octigon Building" as we called it was an asylum. When ever a new kid moved there he or she was brought to The Octigon Building by the kids already living there (Well... about 25 yards away) to see "THE DEAD MONKEY"... Probably an escaped test subject. Though the Small Pox Hospital is as it is today. "The Octigon Building has been restored and is now a hotel and the lobby is also a bit of a museum.
