  • This video shows the setup to measure Harmonic Distortion with a Siglent Oscilloscope. I show a similar setup to what JohnAudioTech uses in his great videos. He now has a new Siglent Oscilloscope to use and I thought I'd show how to setup that scope to take his measurements.
Let them know I sent you - that would be so awesome;)

JohnAudio does EXCELLENT videos no doubt but I was wondering about the same video that John did and how the Siglent could look that bad. I was thinking of buying the new Siglent but saw that video and slammed the brakes on. The I saw this video, and restored my faith in the Siglent scope! Thanks.

Harold Lacadie Yes I like John’s videos too. I think in his video he made the mistake of setting up the Siglent with the same settings as his Rigol. I made this video after he got his new scope because I had a couple of subscribers ask me to show him how to setup his scope, but I don’t think he watched it;) I think he just needs to change the time base to capture more cycles.

I am impressed! This video is technical the best you have done to date! You do just tell all the way with energy, no pauses where it did sound as you just remembered you forgot a thing. You just nailed it this time!
Your editing was also great! Smart detail when we did look at the scope, that you did cut while your hand were out of the picture, it did just made it look like your scope updated the screen and not like a cut at all:-)
In short, as I did say in the start, your absolute best produced video to date!! :-)

The Siglent scopes are excellent for the money - easy to use, nicely laid out, good resolution. I'd recommend one any day of the week. Nice tutorial to show the set up of FFT - some of these features are hard to get to grips with. Hard to understand what it's showing and how to interpret as well TBH!

I bought a siglent sds1104x-e oscilloscope as my first scope. I was thinking about the rigol 1054z but the siglent was 50€more and a bought it because of the hier bandwidth. I never thought I'm gonna use fft but now I spent half of the time with fft on I really love the resolution and for audio level measurements it's fantastic

Thanks, This is pretty useful. I also have a lower end Rigol. I think it is 1 series after what John has. It’s not bad but the FFT leaves something to be desired. The free computer based spectrum analyzer I use actually has way more detail than my scope in FFT.
