      But again he’s talking specifically about the helicopter’s standard mission (carrying VIPs) and how luckily the helicopter was not doing that civilian escort mission when it crashed. It’s very obvious that he’s giving context (for multiple minutes) about the helicopter’s function and the helicopter alone.

Would it have been better if there was another one, but now a rich or important person too. If so, you are full of resentment and envy. More bloodshed doesn't make it better. It makes it worse.
      See it like this: Either
      60 passengers
      5 crew
      0 heli vip's
      OR
      60 passengers
      5 crew
      2 heli vip's
      And then, the implicit meaning, why do we assess lives of celebrities, famous people, and important people to be more valuable. I don't know, but when Trump almost died it was national news. When your grandma died no one gave a fuck. That's life. The more integration, the more people are effected by it, the more significant an event is. If you dislike this fact, you dislike society. I place blame first on the Air Traffic Controller in the tower. Per the rules and guidelines for all federal air traffic controllers (FAA order 7110.65) the air traffic controller in the tower should have pointed the oncoming traffic (helicopter) out to the regional jet stating the aircraft type, location, altitude, and that it was VFR and reported to have them in sight, (due to their proximity and converging paths, and since the Regional Jet was IFR not VFR) Furthermore military aircraft operate using their own radio frequency to communicate with ATC and the regional jet would not have heard ATC and the helicopter pilots communication. The helicopter pilot is also at fault here for requesting VFR and acknowledging having the traffic in sight when they did not, additionally they were above their permitted altitude of 200ft. Preventable incident due to human error unfortunately.

  • @andyhughes1776
    @andyhughes1776 7 днів тому +3

    It may seem perplexing to non-pilots how the helicopter crew could not see the jet right in front of him.
    But former F-16 Pilot, Chris Lehto, pointed out that flying at night over a big city with lots of lights all around, it is easy to not distinguish one point of light from another aircraft if you approach it from the side....until it's too late.
    The helicopter was under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), which relies on the pilot's visuals instead of Air traffic control directives like that airliner it crashed into.
    I am sure there will be some changes to approach procedures for ALL aircraft operating around busy airports from now on.

      yeah he's thinking exactly like a Colonel or any other military. Top brass must be protected at all costs, lower brass are more expendable. no? May sound insensitive to civilians, and it is, and he should have been more tactful because he is in civilian environment, but I think it's the military way of thinking showing.

    Why would helicopters even be allowed to fly at or below the altitude of the landing pattern of an airport with flights incoming? How is it that we can watch live air traffic on our phones, but military helicopters flying over US cities can't see commercial traffic on their screens? Inexcusable.
