For me. Gon is like a human becoming a monster. And Killua is like a monster becoming a human. So in the end, I'd have to root for the human. Though it would be really sad for Killua to have no other choice but to kill Gon.
Didn’t realize this was a 300 sub channel until I was done. Extremely well done video. On the one hand, the best friends fighting is a Shonen anime trope and I could do without it. But on the other hand, we always have a very clear-cut hero (the Naruto) and the grey character (the Sasuke) and HxH has flipped that trope on its head. The heart-ripping, tortured, psychopathic assassin is actually the character LESS likely to turn.
Thank you for watching! And great point. Togashi is a master at flipping tropes and subverting expectations. Love the dynamic he has set up between Gon and Killua.
I honestly feel it wouldn't. Togashi made a couple endings on how things would go and gon would have a daughter as he adventures around. He already hurt killua enough and killua already moved on to protect his beloved sibling nanika showing they are already passed this point If gon did get his powers back it would probably be them having a friendly spar at best or else gon didn't learn a lesson from thr ant arc. Not a single one. Hxh is a series of misdirection and set ups without pay offs. I'd sooner see a rematch between gon and hisoka happening and that's also not the case since hisoka moved on too.
i mean.. it's possible that he could learn the wrong lesson, also the one where he has a daughter is just one ending, doesn't mean they're all like that
This might be a controversial opinion, but for me hxh is one of those stories that could actually work as a narrative with multiple endings, kinda similar to a JRPG. I kinda like to think that the endings that Togashi have thought as endings are more like routes A to E, and is quite uncanny since Togashi is a big fan of JRPGs as well
I’d root for Killua, Not only am I biased but I truly believe he is empathetic with a dark exterior and Gon is psychopathic with a kindhearted exterior, Whatever ends up happening I believe Gon will seem like he is in the right on paper but Killua will likely be in the right in practice.
I can see killua going for the kill and jus throwing the towel, allowing gon to kill him instead, not only would that snap gon out of it permanently, killuas character arc would be complete...he remained human til the very end for his friend
Yup completely agree, the pure hearted character becoming the killer and the master assassin giving his life for his friend, that fits much more Togashi’s theming and writing style.
Yes! That could be a strong ending. Gon dying by Killua's hands. Kurapica fulfilling his revenge, but losing almost all his lifetime due to Emperor Time. He could have a peaceful short period of his life finally leaving anger behind him Leorio could have a happy ending, but he would stay by Kurapica's side until he's gone.
I do believe Killua has a good chance returning home as the leader, either after a fight with Gon or family reasons. That be crazy if that route happened
The reason Illumi said Killua would kill Gon was because of the needle in his head. That’s actually why he put his hand on his head, as foreshadowing for the reveal of the needle.
I saw Killua killing Gon as foreshadowing at first and dismissed it later on since by the end of the series it became clear that Killua was acting against that, you bring a good point about Gon needing to be stopped. There’s another thing kinda like what Illumi said that can be viewed as foreshadowing and that is Hisoka saying the next time they’ll fight will be for real but with how Succession War is going we don’t know. I think the only definite thing we know is that Gon will return because of the Gyro manga panel saying they’ll meet
Honestly I would want kilua to win. It would be like him growing from being somewhat used in greed Island and just being the guy who's on gons side in the ant and chairman arcs into being his own full person. The main character in his own life. But idk if he should kill him. Maybe they just fight brutally and then go their separate ways
I’m really looking forward to their character development and the nature of their relationship when they reunite. Gon being so simple and straightforward yet being a wildcard is so fascinating and it makes the dynamic with someone who is cold, calculated, but extremely caring like Killua all the more interesting. Would make for a cool battle too if it comes to that.
tbh i wouldnt want them to fight , ik its probably highly unlike but i do hope gon's outlook on the world changes like from only see black and white o seeing the grays in life ( maybe he could reflect on everything that happened on his adventure with killua ) and when they eventually meet is to stop gyro or sum ( ik its wishful think ) but i wouldn't want them having to die at the hands to the other ,
Illumi does indeed say that he will want to kill Gon someday in episode 20. He also says that he will betray Gon and leave him to die. We are both correct.
I think it depends on the context. Killua killing the Gon as we currently know him would indeed be a reversal of his character arc, because we know he doesn’t deserve to die. But if Gon goes too far someday, Killua could be faced with that decision. Under that context, I don’t believe he’d be following Illumi’s prediction of “betraying Gon”, he’d be acting as a friend and saving Gon from his own darkness. And while traumatizing, I don’t think it will impact Killua’s ability to be a good friend to Kurapika and Leorio and all those outside of his relationship with Gon. So he would still prove Illumi wrong in the end about him being incapable of having friends. I personally hope this doesn’t happen though because I like Gon and Killua’s friendship too much. But I can see it potentially playing out. Perhaps not exactly like this, but maybe Gon faces jail time to repay his debts to society. That’s a lot less extreme and would still carry similar narrative weight. Depends on what kind of ending Togashi decides to go with if he is able to conclude the story on his own terms.
That would be interesting and I know Togashi has basically done everything with Gon he'd planned and doesnt have much else left for him but it'd be yricky to pull off considering they're best friends by a ridiculous magnitude. Im not even sure what Gon could possibly do that would convince Killua to kill him
I doubt Gon will forever disappear from the story especially given Gyro being set up for an eventual clash with him. Looking forward to him exploring the side characters more during this time though
togashi showed us an ending that is about gon and confirmed that that would be the ending if he dies before he can finish the story, why would the ending be about gon if he's not comming back? if he wasn't going to appear again then he already had his resolution by talking to ging, the ending would be more likely to be about kurapica then no?
@@StardustSaiyan13 Togashi just said they'd cross paths, so I think Gon and Gyro will meet at a Waffle House and have a chat about life during the ending, both people who've been affected by the Dark Continent, in both cases it ruined and renewed their lives.
You think their friendship is wholesome? It’s toxic! Killua wants to stop being a killer, but Gon keeps convincing him to join him on a journey full of fights to the death! Even though Gon doesn’t realize it, he forces Killua to become worse for the sake of meeting his father.
There's at least two major differences between Morena and Gyro- 1. Gyro wants to ruin life for everyone else, to spread misery. Morena just wants to end it it all. 2. Morena is the the Succession arc, a tangled web of dozens of plotlines and hundreds of characters. Gyro's conflict will ultimately come down to him and Gon- so basically the environment is completely different.
@smokeylonesome4328 Were this any other author I'd be inclined to agree, but this is Togashi we are talking about. An author so willing to break conventions that he does not need to follow a typical story structure. But the man is still human. He takes his breaks as he should, but he will not live forever. The Succession War itself feels like it can go another 100 chapters. And then they disembark towards the actual Dark Continent. Who knows how long that will take and all the things that need to happen. Gon feels like his journey is complete. There's not really any more detours left for him aside from circling back around. Not even looking from your typical thematic perspective but also from a practical one. Togashi has been writing this story for decades. Not consistently either. He will unabashedly pick up and drop ideas to his leisure. Maybe he picks them up later. Maybe not. He is not beholden to anyone's expectations but his own. I say all this preamble to put into perspective that Togashi could realistically drop dead. At any point. He has suffered horrendous health problems, and he is not willing to hand the story off to anybody. It just makes sense that even Togashi would take this storyline with Gyro and explore as many of the ideas here with Morena as he can. I'd hazard to say Morena as a thematic plot point wasn't super needed. Super interesting yes but you had enough of a sandbox of political intrigue with the princes, the phantom troupe, kurapika, and the other 2 mafia families. Morena could have just been another mafia head, but her upbringing and outlook are so specifically nihilistic it is hard to say it isn't Gyro-Like. He may not get a chance to touch on Gyro specifically in the future, nor might he even want to, as Gon being so childlike was a symbol of everything he despised working under Shonen Jump and it's practices. I wouldn't blame Togashi if he just left Gon alone and continued to see where his story would take him on the Dark Continent and if it would even end there. But I don't see Togashi to be the kind of person to backtrack that far when his own real life clock is on the line here.
Don’t think they ever gonna fight. It’s just one of those friendships

I really like this concept. It has some serious potential. This would be an amazing build up to the end of a beautiful friendship.
This is my dream bro

What does he say in the manga?
It’s not hard, like at all. Team Killua 100%
Gon isn’t even in hunter hunter no more
I wouldnt want gon to die but would still want major consequences from the battle maybe gon loses an arm
How is that a major consequence when that’s already happened to him like twice
Killua following Illumis prediction and killing Gon would be a disappointing reversal of his entire arc
It would make his entire story pointless

I’m sorry you couldn’t comprehend the video. May I suggest watching something for kids so you can follow along and not feel dumb lol
I don't think Gon's coming back period at this point. Gyro's whole character and flow is being copped by Morena right now.
