Safe working condition is often not at the top of the list here in Western Australia. As an expat myself, I was surprised to find that in some states (and certainly here in WA), there is no annual vehicle inspection (MOT) as long as you keep your car permanently registered. If you let the registration expire by more than 3 months, then an inspection will be required. As such, the incentive is to simply pay your registration fees if you know that your vehicle likely wouldn't pass an inspection. Now that doesn't mean that you are allowed to drive an unroadworthy vehicle but if nobody is checking (and cops rarely check the condition of a vehicle in WA), then you can easily get away with it.

Oh wow.... never knew that! Now i understand the basics of the WA life.
In most rural truck yards the machinery are old and you can see it had a hard life.... BUT IT ALL STILL WORKS
Always daunting the first time, but you get used to it.
