@@Mptappin12 wow, what a trip, can’t believe how far I’ve come since then. Have had my ass handed to me in a few different kitchens, learnt a bunch, and now have a decent repertoire, and understanding of flavour. At a level I didn’t think was possible back when I first commented. Stay focused I guess and you’ll reach your goals.

FINALLY someone makes a video on this. I swear this is the only video I could find on UA-cam explaining the 5 tastes, which is so important for balancing flavours in your dish. Thanks for the really informative video man, I learned a lot 👍🏼

The fact that bitter is ever healthy is also a myth, as is the idea of an "immune system." We have a cleaning system, not an immune system, and of course it activates to clean up poisons, which tend to taste bitter.

@@ChefMikie No problem man, my wife is in nursing school so I've had to take over cooking more often lately so I've been trying to raise my bar so she has something amazing to come home to, so all of this is real new to me. So videos like this are amazing to grasp how to start being creative. If I had something I would want covered, maybe how these tastes and flavors correlate to the different genres of food. Like what tastes make up a lot of italian food, what are some common spices. Honestly spices in general, cause there are soooooo many! lol

I’m not sure if you follow me on IG but I’ll be doing a lot more tips and content on their starting this week, including a “flavor combo of the week” for IGTV series. That should definitely help your situation 🤙🏼

@@ChefMikie I appreciate the compliment man and I'll deff have to check those out. I've been slowly making it through all your UA-cam content and I have to say, I love your positive vibes man. Over the last two years I've slowly been removing people and things that are negative from my life and sometimes being positive is so hard, and pushing towards your dreams seems miles away. I've learned that positivity is just as toxic as negativity. So keep it up man, you got some good stuff going and know your positive outlook in your videos is much needed with many people today, sometimes all it takes is one ripple to start a wave.

we can probably taste (and like) salt cuz it made out of sodium which is how our nerves communicate and chlorine cuz idk our stomach makes hydrochloric acid to digest food. so its the same thing with sugar (high in energy), we like it cuz its benefitial to like it

@@ChefMikie @Jacob Burton Why is 'CREAMY' not one of the basic flavours since I can't replace it with any of the other 5? And what about 'eggy' i.e. that sulphur flavour in 'Kala namak salt' or is that listed under umami? What about 'SPICY' I definitely can't yet see how that sits as a subset of any of the 5 thereby meaning we potentially have 7 or 8 or even more to consider what about 'herby' i.e. aromatic or is that somewhere under bitter, what about 'earthy' or 'funky' like certain fermented fish and protein foods. Some of the last ones might be reaches but I am sure spicy isn't represented unless you'd say something like spice is extreme tang, but it isn't though is it, that's a different flavour and feeling. Let me know thanks

Well salt is used to preserve meat as well as many other things ..... its not just for cooking. There are many things that "we" found tasty after using it for some other purpose and vise versus. New to your channel so you may just be cutting to the shit rather than history lessons.... if that's the case ignore comment. =)

Curious overwhelming of the senses during this episode. Subjected to not only the “5” food tastes…but the MUSICAL variety which competes with you for our attention as well. As your lips are moving, I keep wondering “What the hell is that music for…and does he really think we need it (much like Ketchup)?”
The other “taste” to consider in your video is the graffiti on your arms, which…makes me wonder (as you speak) … has he now run out of real estate to make his political and cultural statements? Will he next carve out pieces of his face to inject toxic food coloring? And …is this really TASTEFUL to see on someone handling our food? IS THIS NOT THE UMAMI OF BAD TASTE? Oh…never mind!

@@ChefMikie why are you trying to use Darwinian evolution to explain things? I've looked into Darwinian evolution and have come to the conclusion that there's no scientific evidence to support it, there are countless hoaxes used to lend credence to it which silently get walked back? Know the classic sketch of an ape evolving to human? The ape exists. The human exists. Everything between are hoaxes. I've shaken a stick at everything I could find and it all comes back to some wild, anti-scientific fantasy that many assume is scientific fact and try to use it to explain reality. Why? We don't see it happening now, we don't see evidence of it in the past, yet here it is. Being used by everyone under the sun to try to explain things. Why?
