As someone who's trying to keep her beginner guard interested and was NOT in any guards who did movement, this was VERY helpful. Thank you!

This video was very helpful! I’m on a colorgaurd team and we literally have no coach since there is hardly any coaches in my schools area and my team is literally self taught at this point and we’ve been needing to add more movement to our choreographies so thank you!

I love it! My guard kid's show requires a lot of movement! I'm choreographing flag work that requires a lot of body! My guard kids tend to learn quickly and they have crazy work ethic!

this was so helpful! Ive been trying to work on incorporating body and this is great info to know! the whole concept of the flag being a part of you and your moves is something I'll definitely use for my group, they tend to think of the flag as separate instead of a part of them in the routine!

This was helpful thank you! I am a color guard instructor trying to incorporate more movement in the routines. I am having difficulty to communicate the routines with the movement to my students. Especially with them never really doing it before. I give out paper copy of routines and video. Any other thoughts or suggestions? What is the best way to teach those routines? Thank you!!!

Hoping that color guards stop the leaping, lunging, and rolling around on the ground. Keep using the flags and rifles that are visible from the audience. And, don't wear black costumes. Black on the green grass/turf doesn't have any contrast.

I would argue that if done thoughtfully, having your performers dance throughout their performance will not only be effective from a General Effect standpoint, but it will also give you points for movement vocabulary (so long as it is executed well). One example of this is if you have enough performers doing the movement skills so they are visible from the top where the judges would be. You could have them partner up and do dancer/flag, dancer/rifle, or full guard executing the skills and even layering the ones you've mentioned. Movement is simply not going to be something that the competitive world of colorguard will be straying away from, so might as well figure out how the guards that do it right and do it well make it work so we can all learn from them :)

Choreography is important....phonetic choreography. Ballet just doesn't work on the football field.

yeah, i hear ya. unfortunately most of the time its all people know how to incorporate because it's what they've been taught. even after obtaining a dance degree sometimes i've caught myself using the same moves that i see all the time, just out of habit i guess. tricky thing for sure.@@lindaeferraro
