Sd.Kfz. 132 ‘Marder II’ - Petite tank, really big gun

  • Even before the Second World War, the famous German tank commander Heinz Guderian had predicted the need for highly mobile self-propelled anti-tank vehicles, later known as Panzerjäger or Jagdpanzer (tank destroyer or hunter). However, in the early years of the war, beside the 4.7 cm PaK (t) (Sfl) auf Pz.Kpfw. I ohne turm, which was in essence just a 4.7 cm PaK (t) gun mounted on a modified Panzer I Ausf.B tank hull, the Germans did little to develop such vehicles. During the invasion of the Soviet Union, the Wehrmacht encountered the T-34 and KV series tanks, which they had trouble dealing with effectively. Fortunately for the Germans, they also managed to capture large numbers of the 7.62 cm field gun (M1936) which had good anti-tank firepower. This gun was immediately put to use by the German ground forces, but mobility was an issue, so an idea appeared to install this gun on the Panzer II tank chassis in order to increase its mobility. The new vehicle belonged to a series of vehicles generally known today as the ‘Marder’ (Marten).

Just a suggestion for the future. If you have limited footage of the vehicle being discussed, then it is better to just leave a still image on the screen, rather than have unrelated tanks shown.

Like others, I would say, if you don't have appropriate footage, put a still image up. The unrelated footage is jarring.
If we are to think of this as a primally audio feature then we do not need moving pictures. Especially ones that are not related to the subject at hand.
It also sounds as if the article could do with a little editing to make it flow better.
Apart from that I am enjoying this series. Thanks.

Sd.Kfz. 132 ‘Marder II’ a WW2 vehicle. Then why are you showing a lot of US cold war vehicles? At least a 1/3 of this video shows things that has nothing to do with either the Sd.Kfz. 132 ‘Marder II’ or Germany.
If you can't find enough pictures or videos of the vehicle in question. Then show the pics that you have. Or run the videos multiple times.
Instead of filling the videos with things that have nothing to do with the topic you are talking about.

      Hello Henke,
The video editor just put some filler material to cover some of the dead periods.
This series is thought of as a podcast, audio-only. The photos are a bonus and the videos are usually just filler.
It is quite hard to find appropriate video material for these fillers, especially as we have 0 budget for these videos.

Marder was probably closer to what the US Army tank destroyer proponents wanted than the early truck mounted 37 mm M3 guns or the 75 mm halftrack GMC M3.
As for re-chambering to 7.5 cm: I have seen a German manuals (e.g., H.Dv. 481/85 Merkblatt für die Munition der 7.62 cm Panzerjägerkanone 36 1942 [in German] Wikipedia references this document ... ) which is quite clear that 7.62 cm shells (projectiles) were mated to a "necked out" 75x714mm R cartridge case of the 7.5 cm PAK 40. To use 75 mm shells would require relining the barrel down to 75 mm as opposed to boring out the chambers from Soviet standard 76x385R (90 mm nominal rim diameter) mm to 76.2x714R mm (100 mm rim diameter) and other modifications to the breech block & such.

First off, thank you for your feedback.
Second off, we are no longer doing this, our new articles have only static pictures.
Third off, we did this because we have almost 0 budget and cannot afford to buy footage or have 3D models made and animated. We also used to refuse to use gaming footage because we thought it would cheapen the video.

      @@AKUJIVALDO Apologies what?
We have only one German tank on the Patreon tiers because we tried to have tanks from all nations on the list. Not dissing everyone.
As for the Tiger II article, there's no bias in there, we did our best with our available sources. Of course, we'll never satisfy either the Wehraboos or the haters, but we're so not interested in that. Also, if you want even more detail in a 50 page article, you want too much for free buddy.

The German can effectively defeat T34 in 1942, mean while the US having trouble pentrate it in Korean War. 1951.

We have not seen any evidence that the US forces in Korea (76 mm Shermans, Pershings) had any trouble in dealing with the T-34. The only tank that would be struggling would be the Chaffee, which was a large component of the first response troops.

The picture shown as an example for the absence of a muzzlebreak looks more like a WW2 "censored" picture in which the muzzlebreaks were removed.
For some reason the german censor sometimes deemed muzzlebreaks as "secret" information.
I think I've encountered another removed/censored muzzlebreak in a picture many years ago (can't remember which picture/when though).
