Completely agree! With how much Canada soccer has improved the coverage needs to be larger for sure.

Isn't it great to have depth to not have to sweat these personnel issues?

Couldn't agree more! Really shows how far we have come as a footballing nation and how good this squad really is.

I think there is more at play then just Davies, as we've seen many more teams have a third of their rosters drop out for small tweaks and the likes. Is this disappointing, yes. Wondering if this is club influenced or just simply
A bunch of players trying to look out for their best interests. We literally just saw Rodri complain about the congestion and next thing we know he ruptures his ACL and is out for the year. I don't think that can be lost in this conversation. I also think this might be the first drip especially with FIFA trying to strong arm clubs to have their strongest sides for the club world cup ( which might just make the Gold Cup that could have been the top players for all sides.
Does it sting, of course. You always want your best players available. Yes the fans miss out on an opportunity to see some of the best players in the world. But, to me This is more of a FIFA Issue that inevitably bled into the NT world.
*For context, I'm not the biggest fan of Nations League as it has basically killed the friendly IE the perfect opportunity to experiment tactically and roster wise (Hello Duals)*,
*Yes in a perfect world if he needed rest he could have taken the last window off then come back for competitive games

Sorry; but I am going to do something that Canadian soccer purists absolutely hate & I'm going to compare this to hockey.
This is a huge disappointment that you only see in soccer & basketball. You will almost never see Canadian NHL hockey players missing any important international series, with the opportunity to play for Team Canada due to "fatigue", or worrying about getting hurt because their club team needs them, or because they want to protect themselves for the next big contract.
What bugs me even more is how all of the long time soccer people totally buy into it & say it makes sense. It's as ridiculous as how constantly faking injuries has become acceptable & part of the so called "beautiful game" & I really like soccer/Futbol.
No!!! It's a huge disappointment with a very lame excuse, at a time when Canada needs to be winning these international tournaments convincingly, in order to build team confidence, momentum & chemistry, showing that we are indeed the 'Kings of CONCACAF' not some half assed, almost amateur like team, in which players just drop out whenever they choose, as they head towards 2026 & no, Suriname will not necessarily be a pushover team to defeat.
This has zero to do with fatigue. This is all about Alphonso ensuring that he doesn't get injured, so that he can help his club team & also look good to help his value for his upcoming new contract negotiations.
If Connor McDavid, or any other of the Canadian hockey stars, were to do that exact same thing in the upcoming '4 Nations Cup' in February, he & they would get absolutely lambasted & criticized by the media, fans & ex-players, for being a selfish player & placing himself in front of his country.
It just wouldn't happen in Canadian hockey because the stars are all dying to represent Canada in that tournament!
Sorry; but this soccer mentality non acceptable attitude makes me ill! Not to mention the fact that Canadian fans are paying their hard earned pay, expecting to see Canada's very best play at BMO field on the 19th... So disappointing on so many levels!!!

When was the last time mcdavid played for team Canada? Mind you there is a hockey world championship EVERY year and Canada mostly send it's C or D tier players every year because all the big players does not want to play for Canada in that competition and want to play in the NHL. May be do some research before commenting things like this.

@@MehakSohi-g8r, Lol, you know full well that championship that you are referring to, which by the way, is called the World Championships & it is hosted by the IIHF & it's always held in Europe, is absolutely not an A grade championship at all. It is only for the minimum amount of teams that don't make the playoffs. Generally Canada sends very young players for development purposes & some veterans to that tournament. Maybe you don't know that & it's you who should do some research before commenting.
I simply said that McDavid would show up at the upcoming 4 Nations Cup & I did not talk about his past tournaments; but you were so anxious to criticize my comment that you didn't even read it properly. By the way, McDavid showed up for Canada in the juniors every time. He made it known that he wanted to play for Canada instead of the young guns in the last big international tournament played before Covid. He has also made it known that he is very excited to play in the upcoming 4 Nations cup.
You are grabbing at straws to try to defend soccer, when you know that I am right.
Fine, if you want a hockey Superstar who played in more International games in the past, use Crosby as an example, or any other Canadian star over the years, for that matter. The principle of my main argument remains the same.

Always appreciate the interactions and comments! Love seeing discussions like this but I do have to say I don't overly agree with this take.
I find it extremely difficult to compare football(soccer) to hockey in this context. I will say from my point I am not a hockey fan and don't completely know the whole International hockey schedule. But from when I used to watch I do remember that hockey has very few International games or major tournaments. When I think of International hockey with team Canada the only games I recall would be Olympics and now the 4 nations.
While in football (soccer) you see multiple International breaks throughout the club season. As their has already been two windows and entering the third of the club season and the next in march. As well having a major International tournament at the end of every club season. As in hockey the season is never broken up to allow players the opportunity to play for their nation almost every couple of months. So that gives footballers the opportunity to play for their country a lot more than hockey players. I am not saying that makes call ups less important I am just saying they just get a chance to play for their nation more often and when players are at the top level they potentially will want a weeks rest or spend time with their family as well. Which I would never hold any of those reasons against a player.
I will say it's extremely harsh to hold this against most players but especially Alphonso Davies. I don't think we have seen many players wear the Canadian kit with more pride before. The joy and excitement he shows on the pitch especially after scoring or winning a crucial game or even streaming Canada qualifying for the World Cup. Davies does everything he can for this Canadian national team. Also footballers as in Phonzie sense play a full 90 minutes sometimes 3 times a week. So I definitely won't say it's not fatigue as we also have to remember Davies is still very young and has already had plenty of injury problems in his career so far.
It definitely is a very interesting topic and discussion to bring up though. I also will possibly make a video on it as I think it is really a topic to think about but a fun one as well. Appreciate the support on the channel as well!
