The National Assembly decided to lift martial law, with which the president agreed. Then some strange military actions and riots began. I'm afraid for BTS, for the boys JK, V, Suga, RM, Jimin and everyone in Korea. I wish them peace and quiet and safety. Jin happy birthday.

💜💜When I heard about this today, my mind immediately went to the BTS members. I hope that they are all safe, and now that martial law has been lifted, I hope they are a little more at ease. As you said, we don't know what will happen next, but I pray for their safety, and the safety of everyone in South Korea right now. Hopefully, Jin will be able to enjoy his day despite the current situation. If he can't commemorate today, maybe he can postpone until one day soon. My understanding is this - The president is in a minority government (opposition has more members of parliament) and can't get any laws passed because of this. Martial law also halts normal government activity. It is thought he did this to break parliament deadlocks. He officially blamed North Korea but no one believed that. His own party members also voted against martial law. It was lucky that parliament managed to get together quickly enough to vote to over turn it.

SK president Yoon is a VERY unpopular man- his popularity rating is about 19%, which is the lowest I have ever heard of- and there have been a lot of scandals in his term. The SK parliament was said to be moving toward impeaching him- kicking him out of office- and were only about nine votes short. So when he declared martial law, 190 of the 300 parliament members rushed to meet and vote against this decision. They were unanimous in opposing it, which is normally rather unusual, but this is not a normal situation. At the same time, Korean citizens who heard the news began to gather outside the government buildings, to protest. They want him out, and they don't want the military in charge. Yoon has realized that he's made a major mistake and has agreed to basically un-declare martial law. He's probably going to be impeached as soon as parliament meets again; this mess hasn't improved his popularity any, and he's shown he's willing to break rules to stay in power, so they have to kick him out as soon as possible.
