The SCOTUS overturned Plessy v Ferguson,(separate but equal). Was that political? Most early SCOTUS decisions have been overturned during the last 100 years. Which were political and which were constitutional?
Why are public officials able to accept gifts, NO other person can accept gifts from there job. Real estate agents cant accept gifts form others, other public officials can’t accept anything. How are the highest officials able to take bribes?

Not public officials. Virtually all federal and state employees, including judicial figures, short of Supreme Court Justice level, are prohibited by laws that forbid government employees from accepting gifts beyond those minimal value. Alido and Thomas excepted and gladly welcomed bribes. They are the only federal employees not Subject to bribery laws. And they are the perfect example of how unregulated, greed will always corrupt.
I do remember when there was, at least, the illusion of impartiality.

I worked as a GS employee for the government, and there was a law put in effect years ago to counter outside influence on government officals. We were always reminded that we could not spend more than a certain amount of money on just a small gift around the holidays. Than you see these appointees getting huge gifts from people that clearly are trying to buy thier influence. What a joke.

So if about half the Supreme Court justices are conservative, that would be representative. The majority of the supreme court depends on random factors, like the health of justices, when they choose to retire (which, if from health, is pretty up in the air), which presidents are in office and how much sway they happen to have at the time.

What I would like to know is what our recourse is for what the Supreme Court is doing. It can't be just to vote. There has to be more we can do. How do we go about "defying the courts"?

Many of the decisions they're making can be rectified with legislation, so a nice majority in Congress could fix a lot of it, but that won't bring back trust in the court. It might nullify its influence though.

The constitution is supposed to neutralize the different ideologies of the different political view points. It has to be true to the constitution and not favor one party over another. If anyone thinks the court should be more liberal or more conservative then you don’t understand the purpose of the Supreme Court.

Every time they accept a speaking engagement or submit an article to a journal, they are asked if they have any relationship with any medical or pharmaceutical company. Even before this current version of the Court came into existence, there were questions. One of the classics being:
Question. Is capital punishment constitutional according to the 8th Amendment? For the longest time, the answer was "yes". Then, some iteration of SCOTUS comes along and says "no". Wait a couple decades and ANOTHER version comes along and says "the previous decision was wrong; it is okay and always was". But the law itself didn't change! How is this possible?

My faith in the US court system dissolved during the whole Bush V. Gore fiasco. Not because of the end result. But because EVERY SINGLE COURT up the chain went with their POLITICAL beliefs, NOT seriously following the law.
And it's more and more obvious over time how VERY political the courts are, DESPITE the whole POINT that they are NOT supposed to be about politics, but about the law, including precedent.
I was proud to be an American and proud of the US until about 1990, but things have just steadily declined over the ensuing decades, re the behavior, and often criminality, of the US government (of which the courts are a part) system.
It SHOULD be beyond approach -- it's more like a growing crime wave, re the trend.
