    I don't know why my grade 9 teacher didn't initially approach polynomials like this. Learning how to factor efficiently and properly is so key moving forward in High school math. This video is really helpful.

      They don't teach how to factor in 8th or 9th grade like this because they teach you only formulas..... 4 or 5 I remember. They don't teach you the mechanic of factoring until college. I hated 8th grade and 9th grade mechanical approach of factoring.

    You're really saving me here, Organic Chemistry Tutor. I didn't work hard at math in highschool, as I planned to go into the trades. A few years later, I needed two hip surgeries (at 21!?), which changed my plans. I decided to follow my passion for nature and the environment. I know I'm destined to be a scientist, but unsure what I'll do as a profession. I'm starting university and I realized I had degraded to a fourth grade level in mathmatics.
    I learned from watching you. You taught me. I couldn't multiply two fractions a few days ago, but now I'm neck deep in algebra and understanding it. If I want to work for our planet, I need to understand this math. Thank you, thank you.

      @@TheJoey3590 Could you explain the SOAP method?

    • @TheJoey3590
      @TheJoey3590 5 років тому +1

      @@hadassah1965 Use SOAP as an acronym to remember the signs when factoring sums or differences of cubes - SAME OPPOSITE ALWAYS POSITIVE. Going left to right.
      Say you had the sum of two cubes : (A^3 + B^3) and you wanted to factor it. You would follow this template : (A B) (A^2 AB B^2), but you forgot the signs.
      Following SOAP, the first sign would be the same as (A^3 + B^3) which is(+) therefore : (A+B).
      For (A^2 and AB) it would be (-) making it (A^2 - AB) because of the O in SOAP meaning opposite of the first sign, which was positive.
      Lastly, for (AB and B^2) the sign would be (+) because (AP) means always positive.
      If you followed all the acronyms correctly, you would end up with (A+B) (A^2-AB+B^2) as the factored form.

    Anyone else understand math perfectly fine but don’t remember it? Like I legit had to review long division yesterday, not because it’s a confusing concept or hard to understand but like I hadn’t done it in YEARS I forgot lol.
