I think that Deadpool mechanism with the points would be interesting, am looking forward to that. Dark phoenix also looks interesting, like a tougher doctor octopus. Juggernaut was my favorite villain villain at last check. Very thematic, loved it.
I really enjoy Dark Pheonix, but the thing about her turning locations facedown I played it differently. I played it as once she turns it facedown, you can still go to the location, but it has no civilians/thugs or end of turn, basically she is "destroying the area" I think. Love the return of the series, these videos are awesome! :)
Yes, the locations are still in play, they can just not hold any civilians and have no end of turn effects. Tom may have been confused by having previously played against Doc Oc, whose locations if flipped are considered not part of the game.
@@branboom3342 Yep, he got it confused, the locations are still there, but they basically become blank slates to move into with no end of turn effect and no slots for civilians or thugs. And I love playing again her because of all the villains, I think her flavor comes out the best with her mechanics. I mean, Dark Phoenix was one of the most powerful beings in existence and shows in such tasteful ways in this game! And she's doing very unique things that most others don't do.... she's messing with the storyline, turn order, etc, I love it!
This video really makes it clear how different players have different approaches for instance instead of racing Sabertooth I just stalled him out with damage reducing or ignoring effects The Invisible Woman works really well for this if your okay with her not doing anything else.
Yes, I was thinking about that. We beat him by getting Wolverine to get the hunted token and moving to the area that makes you draw 3 cards, so he gets stalled too while the other players finish the other objectives. That said, I think he is quite challenging, it took us 3 tries (in heroic mode) to get him down.
I guess I didn't realize how polarizing. Deadpool is. I took the expansion to just be silly fun. But not everyone likes that, and that's ok. But his whole thing is breaking the 4th wall, so just have fun with it. But if you can't then leave it in the box, sorry you wasted your money.
Yeah, all the bizarreness with Deadpool isn’t just what I expect, it’s what I want. And the reason you can’t defeat him is a direct nod to the comics. I love it.
I also have Bob low but that is because he is a puzzle that once you work it out it's just a race to do things in a specific order. I had fun figuring it out then it became boring as it was obvious every turn what you have to do. At that point you get the cards you need or fail.
So the "least fun" villains are the hardest to beat? I've loved playing against Dark Phoenix and Juggernaut because they're so tough. The most boring villains are the ones who don't provide any challenge at all.
In some respects I agree with this. While a challenge is good, it sometimes feels that the game is playing you instead of you playing the game. For example, with Rhino or MODOK from the original set, it can be possible to lose before players can even get a second turn. I’m glad that the game offers ways to increase the difficulty, but when you don’t have much choice and are destined to lose based on a random villain card flip it’s pretty frustrating.
@@jfducusin7186 I was just responding to the comment that the harder the villains, the less fun they are to play. I would agree based on some of those punishing S1 villains. I’m glad if S2 balanced the villains a lot more, but it does seem that Tom ranks the tough ones the lowest here.
The base set villains are very underwhelming... the heroes are pretty good, which makes the villains feel even more meh. Juggernaut, you hit the nail on the head, but you missed one thing - go for his threats with priority, then thugs, then spread out as you kind of just have to hope he lands where you have a character to hit him, which is very meh. I won't play Juggernaut again, he was quick, repetitive, and a little too random when it counts.
Interesting I have a very opposite favourites list. Deadpool, Juggs and Dark Pheonix are all too 10 for me. Nothing beats Brood Queen for fun shoot-em-up

I feel like avalanche works best as a tutorial character, he's very simple and pretty easy. Perfect for teaching the game but not much else.
Namor is one of my all time favorite characters, so he would have to be pretty bad for me to not want to play him.

Deadpool is not my favorite but more casual players and those who like Deadpool a lot LOVE him though we all felt it was a LONG boss fight
