From the start I've been a proponent of you waiting until after the hike. I'm glad you're setting aside the UA-camr and just letting the hiker enjoy his journey. The end product you _do_ create will be better and more special because of it.
COMPLETELY AGREE! I just wrapped up my AT NOBO this year and it's for sure best to just put your all into the hiking and enjoying that so that you can be more fulfilled in the content you create later.
Agreed. For instance, the series that Tip Tap did on the PCT in 2019 wouldn’t have been the same if she uploaded from her phone while on trail. Taking the time to edit after the trail created a better story, and I’m looking forward to Darwin’s story about the CDT.
Good on you for choosing to focus on your hike and the enjoyment of that journey, rather than feeling obliged to release regular videos for other people. Your hike is about you. Have fun out there.
hello friend, thanks for your content. I writing you from Italy, I'm 23old and last year I started suffering from panic attacks without a specific reason. i had problems with suicide thoughts during this period also. i was closed in home most of the time, scared of being round people and get an attack. now i stopped assuming xanax cause i don't have attacks anymore, but just wanted to thank you. my deepest respect
I'm a day hiker and I love watching your videos , especially when it's about gear , I'm currently acquiring gear for the first time and I definitely don't want to have a heavy pack , you're videos help a lot with this , and I love watching all of them including listening to your podcasts , don't stop moving if you can help it
I just saw an article on Yahoo about a couple doing a thruhike from Mexico to Canada and it’s getting all sorts of attention. They have 1.4 million followers. I’m a little frustrated with this, for your sake! As far as I’m concerned, you are the King of backpacking. To see all the content you’ve provided over the years, and you have 1/4 of the followers they have is ridiculous. Your content, editing, etc.. are all pure gold! Youre definitely in my top 3 favourites, for any category of video. Keep it coming! Thanks for all your hard work, hope one day to meet you out on the trail! Tim from Canada.
I got converted to the MSR stake too when I found one on the ground while I was doing the PCT. Compared to the ones that came with my Nemo tent, they proved better. So when I finished my hike, I bought enough to make a whole set.
Good on you with the waiting. As someone who likes to kick back and watch these sorts of vids, I prefer a good edit/film style thing over a “phone in the face,” talking series.
Hey, hope you are enjoying yourself. And do what you have to do man. Don’t worry about pleasing the masses…that’s why I watch (and have been listening to your podcast). We’ll be here when you’re ready to share. Love the info and advice. Glad you keep it real! Hike on! (Or bike on or whatever you do)
Dude that was sweet footage. I'm looking forward to being able to binge watch all of your CDT footage whenever you put it up! Definitely a trail I'd like to do one day.
Thanks for the update, man!! Sounds like things are going well for you. By the way, great choice (IMO) on the Patagonia shirt you picked up. I've really been happy with their whole capilene line of shirts. Enjoy Colorado!!
Gorgeous footage at the end. Good to hear from you (in a WI hotel room!). Your hoodie is gonna be so perfect - can’t wait. Cheers, friend, keep on enjoying the heck outta your hike! - Chica
I'm amazed by the audio quality of this video. How do I hear ZERO background noise? I feel like the majority of channels, even the bigger ones, have somewhat annoying background noise when filming and talking outside.
Thanks for saying hi in Leadville it was awesome seeing a Fellow You-tuber that inspired My wife and I to start hiking and start our own UA-cam channel.
Hey man, new to the channel, been binging for a few hours. Nice content. It would be nice to have some maps with visuals for reference, either edited in there or just a phone screenshot/physical map painting, anything to help us visualize the distances walked would be awesome. Cheers.
Last year I was as following a couple who were hiking the PCT and half way through CA they had equipment issues so stopped posting. But then once they were done they began a dropping posts every week. Honestly it was great to follow their journey over the winter. I love watching well done vlogs of through hikes. Posting after the hike is actually a great idea.
love the short film idea. loved your bikepacking video. Steamboat springs is a nice area to be walking through. Hell. The whole state of Colorado is nice.
I've learned so much from your content and always look forward to your videos. Went out on my first solo backpacking trip this weekend with the inspiration form your channel as well as a few others. I can't thank you enough for that. Happy hiking Darwin, can't wait to see the short film ❤
You keep us wanting more!!!! Enjoy the hike and I can’t wait to see the video at the end!! I live in Albuquerque, if you need anything while in NM, I’m more than happy to help.
Glad to see you’re enjoying the hike and can’t wait to see the final product and getting to see the parts of the Colorado Trail that were infamously lost during the great SD card scandal during your CO Trail journey…lol!! Happy Trails and keep on trekking!!
Hey Darwin, props re the decision to develop your own sun hoody! You’ve got the knowledge to develop technical gear and I’m sure your vast following would support “Outdoor Evolution” developments commercially
I can't wait to get the right gear and learn how to navigate in a thru hike and 14ers! I just moved to Centennial and the Colorado trail is not far from my new house! Would be cool to meet you and other youtubers that are hikers! Welcome back and have fun on the trail! Safe travels
Dude I’m so happy your are having a good time. The updates are cool but seeing you having a good time and looking more relaxed is even better. Do what you want to do and don’t add editing to a great trip if it doesn’t add to it for you.
I feel you with not finding the right fabric for a sun hoody. If it is hot AND humid, nothing is comfortable. I need sun protection so I am constantly trying to find something "better". I am living in Japan and in the summer we can get over 80% humidity at the lower elevations. I always thought some snaps on a sun hoody like a quarter zip would be a good idea.
Glad to hear your doing well, the end video was also Great. Treat your body to some love and itll treat ya back, glad you went ahead an picked up the 2nd pole.
Yep I swapped out the eastons with my Tarptent for MSR mini groundhogs after I bent one on the first trip. I am considering transitions as "hiking glasses" so I don't have to carry two pairs all the time and save a little space.
Thanks for the quick update Mate. Good to see you're all good and enjoying the CDT to its fullest. Especially as you don't have to worry about setting time aside to do video editing & uploading, etc., so look forward to when you upload your CDT videos for us to also enjoy. Take care and stay safe.
@@DarwinOnthetrail it's fantastic. I just wish I could comment somewhere like "right on Darwin. Pick up your trash ya bums." LOL. I can't believe what some people say and do. How dare you post what you like, or not, Darwin. Keep doing you regardless.
I love the gear update. I am surprised you haven't tried the Versa Flow. It's cheaper than the Sawyer and more compact. It's on Garage own gear and I love that website. I can't wait to use your sun hoody, once the fabric comes in.
thanks for the update. glad to see you are enjoying your journey on the continental divide trail. keep on rocking the trail. looking forward to seeing your videos. I think it's awesome that you are helping others getting into backpacking with your videos.
Just got back from Yellowstone a couple of days ago. Did a 5 day from the southern entrance to Heart Lake trail head. Too bad I missed you, would have been awesome to meet you in person. Stay safe out there brother.
I use to use a trekking pole good swap out your joints and back, knees will thank u later I didn't see u using a neck gator it keeps bugs outta your ears one time I got a tick in my ear hiking how painful, can't wait to see the full edited edition darwin good job
Thank you for not letting UA-cam become your prority when thru hiking. I honestly appreciate when hikers allow themselves to not be obsessed with a video schedule and it shows in the content when they finally do release it. The hikers who become obsessed with vlogging and releasing videos start to lose their WHY.
Great Video and Channel! I was in the Winds last Labor Day and recognize green river lakes, peak lake and knapsack col from the end of your video. Going a week later this year and plan to be out there next week for several days in the Cirque of the Towers. Watching your video is getting me more excited about this trip. Thanks!
Great hearing from you as usual. Very cool adventure indeed! And it's already half-done. Whaaaat?? Time flies out here. Hope it's been a great time for y'all. Hike on brother.
You should absolutely wait till you are done. It will make your content better if you don't have to worry with all that editing work. Will be looking forward to the final short film!
Hi Darwin, I’ve been using the MSR mini stakes for years. I think they are a good value and reliable stakes for the rocky terrain you are experiencing. Happy trails!
Really enjoy your podcast. I don't always agree with you, but I enjoy the discussion you and your cohost have, including the most recent one. I believe you are always fair and do a good job of explaining why you think what you do.
Yellowstone has to be killer!! Its cool to see you picked up a SOBO tramily! Or even a section SOBO tramily which ever?..Lol Company does help make for a good time. Halfway mark and goin strong! Keep it up man and good luck! Look forward to the updates. Stay safe! Hike on!
Great update, Darwin and spectacular footage - stunning mountains you have in the USA. Good to hear about the sun hoodie. Thanks for uploading. Cheers.
I love the idea of waiting to release your videos and think doing a 4 part longer feature will be awesome! I enjoy Joe Robinet's videos when he does the same. Would be nice for a few more updates and check-ins while your out there but can't wait to watch the full trip when you get back. Enjoy your time out there and stay safe!
So happy to hear an update on your hike and the hoodie! And holy shit you can edit, you did that on your phone??? Definitely doing things after is the way to go for quality’s sake of your current experience and the video. Keep enjoying yourself!
