From the start I've been a proponent of you waiting until after the hike. I'm glad you're setting aside the UA-camr and just letting the hiker enjoy his journey. The end product you _do_ create will be better and more special because of it.

COMPLETELY AGREE! I just wrapped up my AT NOBO this year and it's for sure best to just put your all into the hiking and enjoying that so that you can be more fulfilled in the content you create later.
Agreed. For instance, the series that Tip Tap did on the PCT in 2019 wouldn’t have been the same if she uploaded from her phone while on trail. Taking the time to edit after the trail created a better story, and I’m looking forward to Darwin’s story about the CDT.
I'm an optometrist in Missouri. People losing their glasses in lakes and rivers have paid for my son's college education.
I have a pair of glasses somewhere in the Current River. Ugh.

I writing you from Italy, I'm 23old and last year I started suffering from panic attacks without a specific reason. i had problems with suicide thoughts during this period also. i was closed in home most of the time, scared of being round people and get an attack. now i stopped assuming xanax cause i don't have attacks anymore, but just wanted to thank you. my deepest respect
I'm a day hiker and I love watching your videos , especially when it's about gear , I'm currently acquiring gear for the first time and I definitely don't want to have a heavy pack , you're videos help a lot with this , and I love watching all of them including listening to your podcasts , don't stop moving if you can help it
Good on you with the waiting. As someone who likes to kick back and watch these sorts of vids, I prefer a good edit/film style thing over a “phone in the face,” talking series.

I got converted to the MSR stake too when I found one on the ground while I was doing the PCT. Compared to the ones that came with my Nemo tent, they proved better. So when I finished my hike, I bought enough to make a whole set.
Really like the idea of a hiker developing gear. You know what is needed and not needed. Cannot wait to see the final product. Nice update
I'm amazed by the audio quality of this video. How do I hear ZERO background noise? I feel like the majority of channels, even the bigger ones, have somewhat annoying background noise when filming and talking outside.

Hey man, new to the channel, been binging for a few hours. Nice content. It would be nice to have some maps with visuals for reference, either edited in there or just a phone screenshot/physical map painting, anything to help us visualize the distances walked would be awesome. Cheers.
Last year I was as following a couple who were hiking the PCT and half way through CA they had equipment issues so stopped posting. But then once they were done they began a dropping posts every week. Honestly it was great to follow their journey over the winter. I love watching well done vlogs of through hikes. Posting after the hike is actually a great idea.
I've learned so much from your content and always look forward to your videos. Went out on my first solo backpacking trip this weekend with the inspiration form your channel as well as a few others. I can't thank you enough for that. Happy hiking Darwin, can't wait to see the short film ❤

I just saw an article on Yahoo about a couple doing a thruhike from Mexico to Canada and it’s getting all sorts of attention. They have 1.4 million followers. I’m a little frustrated with this, for your sake! As far as I’m concerned, you are the King of backpacking. To see all the content you’ve provided over the years, and you have 1/4 of the followers they have is ridiculous. Your content, editing, etc.. are all pure gold!
Youre definitely in my top 3 favourites, for any category of video. Keep it coming!

I feel you with not finding the right fabric for a sun hoody. If it is hot AND humid, nothing is comfortable. I need sun protection so I am constantly trying to find something "better". I am living in Japan and in the summer we can get over 80% humidity at the lower elevations.
I always thought some snaps on a sun hoody like a quarter zip would be a good idea.

Thank you for not letting UA-cam become your prority when thru hiking. I honestly appreciate when hikers allow themselves to not be obsessed with a video schedule and it shows in the content when they finally do release it. The hikers who become obsessed with vlogging and releasing videos start to lose their WHY.
Dude I’m so happy your are having a good time. The updates are cool but seeing you having a good time and looking more relaxed is even better. Do what you want to do and don’t add editing to a great trip if it doesn’t add to it for you.
Editing on a phone is just so so, but on a PC with all the effort you can at home means great content. I can wait for the full Darwin Effect #CDA
I all ways enjoy the content but the evolution of the journey is what speaks to my soul.

I love the gear update. I am surprised you haven't tried the Versa Flow. It's cheaper than the Sawyer and more compact. It's on Garage own gear and I love that website. I can't wait to use your sun hoody, once the fabric comes in.

Hi Darwin, I’ve been using the MSR mini stakes for years. I think they are a good value and reliable stakes for the rocky terrain you are experiencing. Happy trails!
Yep I swapped out the eastons with my Tarptent for MSR mini groundhogs after I bent one on the first trip. I am considering transitions as "hiking glasses" so I don't have to carry two pairs all the time and save a little space.
Just got back from Yellowstone a couple of days ago. Did a 5 day from the southern entrance to Heart Lake trail head. Too bad I missed you, would have been awesome to meet you in person. Stay safe out there brother.
I picked up a CNOC Vecto bag for my BeFree and love it. When I need a heavier water carry it's a great resource.
I use to use a trekking pole good swap out your joints and back,knees will thank u later I didn't see u using a neck gator it keeps bugs outta your ears one time I got a tick in my ear hiking how painful, can't wait to see the full edited edition darwin good job

Great Video and Channel! I was in the Winds last Labor Day and recognize green river lakes, peak lake and knapsack col from the end of your video. Going a week later this year and plan to be out there next week for several days in the Cirque of the Towers. Watching your video is getting me more excited about this trip. Thanks!

Thanks for the updates Darwin! Very curious how the uppers on your Lone Peaks are holding up? Have you gotten any tears in 450 miles in that rip stop type fabric on the toe? These remind me A LOT of the fabric on the super minimalistic second generation of New Balance MT00 5 years ago. That stuff was pretty durable, but eventually did tear at the toe crease. Great balance of strength and breath ability though, could dry out completely in 30 minutes after a creek crossing.
You should review the 32 degrees packable down hooded jacket. I just got one $40 sized down to a medium it weighs a little over a pound packs small. For your budget videos

Chapper on the shades! Met a bunch of NOBO and SOBO CDT thru hikers in the Green River Lakes area in early August and you were the talk of the trail. Or was it that other Darwin? 🤷♂️
Darwin - maybe it’s already a consideration but maybe OE should to a partnership with Boy Scouts, or Scouting in general. I know they’ve gotten some weird press, but myself and a bunch of my friends have fond memories of backpacking with our friends and learning the out doors. It might me cool to have your influence help build a positive relationship with scouting and the larger outdoor community!
I heard that boy scout is one of the best indicators of success, for boys who grow up without a father (figure/role model). I'm happy you had good memories. :) I did too.
Wonder if you thought about getting off the CDT and taking the grand enchantment trail to the superstitions, then take the AZT back home. So basically walk from Canada to your home.
