  • It used to take me at least 30 minutes to warm up for a workout. Sometimes, I would spend more time and energy warming up than I did actually working out.
    Now, I'm ready for my workout in around 5 minutes or fewer thanks to three simple strategies.

      A good warm up should be just as much a training session as the rest of the workout. Not as hard on the body but certainly an opportunity to learn and progress.

    Good tips on the basis stretches. I have been doing them for a week now, adding in chin tucks & cobra pose in a circuit fashion, 20 secs for each stretch.
    3 x times a day: after waking up in the morning; after work in the evening and before going to bed at night.
    I have gotta say that I'm feeling more energized now throughout the day and my motions on the basic chain movements are getting smoother too. The best thing is that the tense/pain feeling around my upper back & lower back is subsides.

    Thanks Matt. While I always warm up and warm down, I don't like to spend a lot of time doing this. Its very helpful to get some useful tips on how to do this time effectively. Also you've confirmed one in particular for me: the stretching to full vertical extent. I've always done this because it feels good but was never really sure if it was beneficial, so thank again!

    I'm a big fan of using resistance bands to warm up. I have 3 sets of bands setup in increasing tension and I just cycle through one after the other without rest. This works very well to get warmed up.
    The. Just the first set of my workout I'll do 50% reps to get that final warm-up pump.

    There are some things that I find you could waste some energy ramping up into, like explosive pullups. Usually I'll do those at the very beginning sets, I stop once i lose the explosiveness (pulling to waist height)

    For about two years now, I (42 btw) do a basic "anti-tighten" routine every morning. It worked wonders in being, as you say, action-ready and together with working out, it helped a lot to compensate my office job. Oh, and my warm up always starts with an exercise from one of your older videos where you stretch out your hands, thumbs down and circle them around so you have "thumbs down" when reaching back position... (thanks for that) edit: Here, this is your warm up i mentioned ua-cam.com/video/HOM4SexE4hs/v-deo.html

    Hey Matt, you said that stretches didn't help you at all in one of your old videos what changed your mind?

    • @RedDeltaProject
      @RedDeltaProject  4 роки тому +1

      Nothing, I still don't stretch and have little to no plans to do so, or at east the classic form of passive stretching.
      instead I use active range of motion exercises, like the ones here that are still a strength exercise, that uses a big ROM. The mobility benefits are secondary btu the goal is still to get the muscles working.

    Can you do cardio before your main workout for warmup?

    • @RedDeltaProject
      @RedDeltaProject  5 років тому +11

      Depends on the cardio and depends on the workout. If it's similar, like jumping rope before squats or running then sure. But I don't see much point in running on a treadmill for 20 minutes before a pull-up workout unless your actual workout is running on the treadmill and then doing pull-ups.
      One exception might be if you literally want to warm up, like during the winter and want to raise your temp a bit.

    • @RedDeltaProject

      yep, warm ups are more art than science. I just go by feel than any sort of plan or structure. A warm up is basicly easing into the workout gently so your nervous system and metabolism can ramp up. There's no perfect planned way to do that as you're always different in each workout so play with it and do what feels best
