    Gary, your encyclopaedic knowledge never ceases to amaze me. I stumbled upon using Spotlight for quick currency conversions and additions by accident years ago, but I never knew it was a also feature of Calculator! Paper tape also new to me - very useful when doing my loathed Tax Return! Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. 🙏🏼

      PS - I just wish there was a 'speech _input'_ mode. I have used Siri before, but it's often a bit sketchy so rather unreliable, and of course you don't get the paper tape using Spotlight...

    Great video and your narration is excellent: well paced, use of examples and explain very well.
    On a separate video, I wish you would opine on the new iMacs. I plan on buying one this coming Friday. I’m disappointed the Apple logo was removed from the front, and there is no face-recognition built in. What is your recommendation?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 роки тому +1

      Face recognition would require a TrueDepth camera like on the iPhone and iPad (infrared beam, infrared camera). Most people don't generally need to log on and off of a desktop computer nearly as often as a phone during the day. Easy to type the password, and even easier with TouchID. Whether it is the right Mac for you depends on your needs, wants and budget. Hard for me or anyone to tell you what you need.

    i still think there are many much better calculators out there. first and foremost, you have to search for it in spotlight to find it? siri cant open it ( unless you shout at her, then she opens it after awhile, true story) most other calculators have the "paper tape" built in to them so you dont have to open a new window.
    and why on earth do i have to press the "=" to get the result, every other calculator just calculate in real-time.
    And how come there is no way to keep the calculator (or any other app) "always on top", so that i does not dissapair as soon as i click on an other window, it would help when calculating many things. The good old "widget" swipe in and out screen back in the day was far far better then how it works now.
    Thanks for the effort with the video. im just amazed of how bad apple makes their software again and again, when their hardware is so good:P

    There is a bug that they never corrected for years, in spite of repeated notice: The function y√x is wrong. It does x√y.

      To delete in the Calculator app, just plain backspace is all you need.

    Hello, thanks for the explanation, but the programmer mode is the worse I ever seen! Do you know if there is some app usable in programmer mode? The windows calculator in programmer mode is totally better than this. Here, modulo operation is missing, I cannot copy/paste binary numbers, there is no way to specify the size of the number in terms of max bits... all feature that the basic windows calculator can do.
