These three actors did a great job playing complex women under the subjugation of a patriarchal order fueled by a crazy church history that has yet to be discussed and apologized for to their members. Many Mormons don’t know about Mountain Meadows Massacre for example and I think it’s a deal breaker for being in this religion. Brigham Young ordered the murder of 140 people on a wagon train from Arkansas. Religious zealotry and greed were the motivators for this crime. This was the richest and largest wagon train ever to pass through Utah territory and Young would have seen how wealthy they were when they passed through Salt Lake City. 900 longhorn cattle, 40 wagons, gold in the amount of $100,000, four fine carriages, 250 stock horses, an expensive race horse, gold watches and fine jewelry, and many other fine goods. The cattle were branded after the murders with the brand of the Mormon church. Young finished his temple with the gold stolen from the dead. He gave his favorite wife one of the fancy carriages and jewelry taken from the murdered women. He built himself a fine house. He became a very wealthy man.
1:51 I like how empty and hypocritical her “I understand religion can be good, but..” came across, because first she makes the point to highlight the distinction between “regular” mormonism and “fundamental” mormonism, and then she proceeds to draw a line between the show and her negative experience with religion due to being queer.
This cast has so many different cultures in it. Very cool.
Andrew is so precious.
He’s too precious for this world…
Ugh I just so love Andrew
This series is so good. I'm surprised this topic even get to be made now.
